This is just the movie for you if you like to listen to Luthor and his hench people act like they are all idiots. Logic is thrown out the window. Kryptonians can talk to each other in space. There is no chemistry between Clark and Lois at all. There is no wit in this movie, the action is mostly lame. Borrow it before you buy it. You will thank me.
If you want a *good* Superman movie, I suggest Superman - Doomsday (DC Universe Animated Original Movie)!

The movie itself was great. The graphics were of mostly HD quality as well. The extras are a must see, and they are in HD as well. The extras are almost as long as the movie. This was worth it.

This "director's cut" is the worst DVD I have ever put in my DVD player, period. It is an absolute mutilation of the Superman mythos, Christopher Reeve, Marlon Brando, and all of the magnificent artistry that went into this legend during the 1970s. Richard Donner was right to have been fired by the Salkinds and the fact that this butchered monstrosity has been released by Warner Brothers is disturbing.
Superman II, has always, at its best, been almost superior to the first film. There are a number of reasons for this: the fabulous opening rescue at the Eiffel Tower (best in the series), the beautifully developed Lois Lane / Clark Kent / Superman relationship, and the murderous, frightening General Zod. I saw the movie when I was 7 and it left an indelible impression on me. Of course, it also suffered form some groan-inducing acting, dodgy effects, and a certain level of camp.
What Richard Donner has done is destroy the entire fabric, plot, character development, and artistry of Superman II. It is hard to know where to begin, but this is a completely different movie that makes virtually no sense. There's no eiffel tower scene, instead a totally lame recap of the first film (not done cleverly as it was previously) and a terribly misguided attempt right off the bat to re-ignite the Lois Lane story. The Zod storyline is similarly truncated and fragmented, inserted at random and missing the key scenes of their introduction to the planet "Houston". Entire sequences and lines no longer make any sense (orange juice...freshly squeezed), and even more unbelievable is the inclusion of godawful TEST FOOTAGE to replace the scene of Superman's identity revelation. The list goes on and on... the Lex Luthor scenes are now terrible and corny... it is too depressing to write about.
My wife actually cried when we turned off this DVD. She absolutely loves Christopher Reeve and Superman and all copies of this filthy DVD should be destroyed. It is much, much worse than what Lucas did to the Star Wars films.

I bought this because I love Superman II. It was one of my favorite movies growing up and I figured "How different could this version be?" Well it's a lot different. From what I understand we (the audience) are supposed to view this film as a "What could have been if Donner had directed it" and forgive the fact that it makes the movie choppy and loses the heart that I thought was what was so great about it. If I were going to release this to DVD or especially to Blu-ray, I would have made it an extra disc released in a boxed set like they did with Blade Runner. Why is it so hard to believe that people would want the original version on Blu-ray? If I knew when I bought it what I know about this version now I would have just kept on shopping.
