Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Too much posing and melancholy
When I originally saw the movie in the movie theathers back in 2006, I remember it had enough qualities to make it a good popcorn movie but ultimately it felt kind of empty.

My main issues with the movie are that it's bogged down by the melancholy that's portrayed by the alienation of Superman and I did not buy Brandon Routh on the screen as Superman.

How many times do we have to see Superman standing alone above the city in front of a setting sun appearing to be deep in-thought as a Christ-like figure?? Instead of sludging through the movie like it's some sort of melodrama, why don't you have the most powerful being on the planet take on a problem with a much wider scope, more powerful villians (e.g. Brainiac/Doomsday), and more action with the tempo picking up at the end of the movie instead of another plot with Lex Luthor coming across more Kryptonite to use against Superman.

As for Brandon Routh, the only time I found him to be believable in the movie was the first 15 minutes when he portrayed the Smallville/Kansas version of Clark Kent. When the movie progressed to Metroplis, I felt like he was trying to imitate Christopher Reeve's version of Superman. I believe he should have abandoned the nebbish/comical take that Reeve perfected in his movies and should have played Clark with more originality. Also, he never demonstrated the proper amount of authority (or maturity) and charisma when he was Superman. When he ran down the street, taking off his work clothes and showing the "S" on his costume, he looked like a nervous wet-behind-the-ears kid...instead of looking like the confident modern-day Hercules who's grown into being Superman.

I just hope for Man of Steel, they correct these issues and develop a movie that does Superman justice.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Christopher Reeves turns in his grave on this one
This movie was a sad endeavor. I saw it with a few friends of mine and we all fell asleep about 20 minutes in. It was as dull as dull can be with the only saving grace being the special affects. The bullet in the eye - very cool and the plane landing. Other than that - pathetic. And yes, you would think that someone like Bryan Singer whose X-MEN 1 and 2 were excellent could have done something great with this, however it was a train wreck. Weak story + great special affects = bad movie.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Unsatisfying
I found the story and the ending unsatisfying. First of all, the disasters just seemed like they were put there to give Superman something to do. Secondly, I don't like how Superman never, ever really gets the girl (Lois Lane). And I don't like how he never kills Lex Luthor. Lex just keeps coming back to cause more trouble, and Superman keeps coming back to defeat him. And you know that these issues will never be resolved because D.C. Comics wants to keep everything the same. If they make another movie, I would at least like to see Superman fight other villains, because I'm really sick of Lex Luthor. I would say this is the least satisfying of all the Superman movies.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Watch Out!
this item was very heavily used. box was in terrible shape and the disc was scratched and horribly dirty. box has water damage as well. would never do business with this person again. watch out!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A HERO RETURNS TO US!
To the Superman fans of the world, please believe me when I say that this movie lives up to my expectations. I'm sick of seeing the words "lack-luster" when people describe this movie. It is by far full of luster and imagination. Dedicated to Christopher and Diane Reeves and also blessed by Richard Donner, this movie brings back Superman to us when we fully need him. An true hero to me and many others. I understand why plenty of people like Spiderman or Batman better, because they are able to cross the line now and again and say it was for the right reason. Superman never crosses that line and will always be the true hero to do the right thing, even if the jaded world doesn't agree. We can look to him and be inspired to be better human beings. Brandon Routh is a excellent Superman. Strong and tough, but also shows his emotional hurt when he finds out that Lois has moved on with her life. An epic story, much better seen on the big screen, but the DVD will also make you believe once more that a man can fly. In closing, Superman Returns is one of the best superhero movies ever made, I can't wait until the next one.
