Seven-year-old loves this toy, but is unable to turn it into the Death Star. It makes annoying Darth Vader noises without the slightest provocation, and may be impossible to turn off. If there's an off swicth, I haven't found it, but I wasn't able to make the death start ransformation, either, so it could be user error. Nevertheless, this was among the favorites for Christmas because it's big, it's Darth vader, and it's noisy.

Difficult to put together, pieces don't fit well, parts pop open...what a waste of $$ and waaaayyyy too much for even an older child or adult to do on their own without major frustration. Sadly disappointed!

This thing is terribly hard to assemble into the DS. the instructions stink, impossible to make sense of. I finally figured it out, took 1.5 hours and various re-tries before getting it right. for instance, the directions don't clearly show that (a) the arms need to be hooked onto the body at the elbows and (b) the feet need to be turned around. both of these caused the final assembly to not close, and forced 2 re-starts of the whole process since you need to open the thing up in order to change those elements. Also, if closed together as the DS, and this is important as to the playability, an inside piece (both times I assembled it) depresses the trigger for the missile, so the missile will not stay back in the barrel in order to fire, and the missile firing is the ONLY playable piece when it is in DS mode.

What just about everyone else is saying here is correct - it is a major pain to assemble this into the Death Star. It took my husband about 45 minutes along with a deluge of curse words to finally "transform" it (our son was not home at the time - thank goodness!). It's so bad that my husband won't let our son transform it back to Darth Vader. I'm very curious how the manufacturer can rate this toy for ages 5+. There is no way a 5 year old can figure this out. And the instructions, talk about a joke!! We both laughed when we looked at them - they could not have possibly been written with a child in mind. Did Hasbro actually test this product prior to its release??????? In all, my son is keeping it and he does play with the Death Star - it comes with tiny action figures and the TIE fighters. It also has little compartments in the Death Star that our son can store these items.
