Lots of hammy photos of Streisand in revealing shorts decorates this slick, glossy package of pop numbers. Streisand gets down on mid-tempo rockers "Don't Believe What You Read" and "Cabin Fever", though she sounds even more comfortable on Billy Joel's bluesy "New York State of Mind"(a so-so song enlivened by Streisand's meticulous delivery) and on the disco-lite 'I Found You Love"(which has some great lyrics). Features another one of those classic, lost Streisand performances in Rupert Holmes' "Lullaby For Myself", which looks at a single woman's life with such clarity(and sarcastic humor)that it is almost stunningly precise; Streisand's performance here, and on the amazing "Love Comes From Unexpected Places", ensures this CD with a long shelf life. One of her overlooked albums from the 70's, STREISAND SUPERMAN is one you won't want to miss. The album features some compelling ballads and excellent songs altogether. The ballad "Superman" is a poignant song about loving someone unconditionally. "Don't Believe What You Read" is a song about being wary of what the media says is true, and to be careful not to give into all their stories because many are fabricated. This album also features some of her popular ballads, such as her rendition of "New York State of Mind", and "My Heart Belongs To Me" which to me will forever be Streisand classics. "Baby Me Baby" is a touching ballad about affection. "I Found You Love" and "Love Comes From Unexpected Places" are both beautiful ballads about finding true love. Other highlights are "Answer Me", and the closing "Lullaby for Myself". Overall SUPERMAN is a consistently good effort which should not be overlooked, its just as compelling as good as her other 70's albums such as LAZY AFTERNOON or THE WAY WE WERE. Check it out.

"Superman" was released in 1977 and was a huge commercial success for Streisand across the globe. The album is a mixture of Pop to Soft Rock and includes Ballads. "Answer Me" was originally intended for the "A Star Is Born" soundtrack but eventually ended up on this record. "New York State of Mind" is a Billy Joel favorite, which Streisand gives a great unique accomplishment. "I Found You Love" is a light disco dance track. "Baby me Baby" & "Lullaby for Myself" are quite quintessential. One of the most beautiful tracks on the album is "Love comes from Unexpected Places" & the superb Hit "My Heart Belongs to Me", both are touching and warm. "Don't believe what you read" was co-written with Barbra about her experiences with trashy tabloid... The cover was taken for "Playboy".

Streisand Superman in my opinion is one of her better albums from the 70's. Filled with ballads, and hard edged songs, pop, its a great album to listen to. Superman may seem like a fluffy song with its simple and somewhat silly lyrics, but that voice makes the song take flight and turns it into a beautiful ballad. Another great ballad is the tender My Heart Belongs To Me, and New York State of Mind. These are classic songs. Other highlights include Dont Believe What You Read, Love Comes From Unexpected Places and Lullaby For Myself. This is just a great collection from Barbra, filled with songs that will touch your heart. They are timeless.
