new midnight avenger: The moment she placed the helmet upon her head she felt different. It was as if she was instantly more physically fit than she had been beforehand. Then came the all too familiar electronic voice…
{Systems online….running startup checks…Turbo Thrusters operational…Weapon Systems live…Targeting computer active…}
“What the hell?” Jessica swore aloud as the armored suit ‘spoke’ to her.
{Individual detected…5 feet behind and 4 ½ to your left}
Jessica swiftly turned around and almost fell on her butt due to the speed of the turn. A man had just stepped off the elevator. He froze at the sight of her and then a slight smile crossed his lips. He put his hands out in front of him in a show of peace.
“About time” he said to her “I was wondering if you received the package.”
“Who are you?”
“Sorry about that” the man said “Should’ve started with introductions I guess. Name’s Victor Heavy. I’m an associate of your parent’s”
“Do you know where they are?” she asked hopefully.
Victor shook his head “not quite. I know they’re in Moscow but as to their exact whereabouts I have no idea.”
She took a slow step towards him as she tried to keep the armor under control. Victor noticed this and said “it’ll take a bit of getting used to. Your body has to adjust to the automated enhancements.”
“Enhancements?” she asked puzzled.
“The suit makes you stronger, more agile, and a bit faster than you are normally. It also has quite a bit of built in devices to make you a deadly fighter.”
“How do you know all this?”
“I told you I’m an associate of your parents’. I designed the armored suit. I’ve also tinkered with some of the other gadgets in this place.”
“What exactly is this place?” Jessica asked “why did my parents do this?”
“First this is the Hawk’s Nest as to why. Well you’d have to ask them. But it started with your Grandfather’s murder.“
Without another word Victor went over to a small portion of the wall that was suspiciously empty of equipment. Then he pressed a button that Jessica hadn’t even noticed and a panel slid to the side revealing a secret chamber. Inside was a large metal container with a metal body sticking out of it. Wires were connected to the body as well as a monitor. The mechanical robot’s covering was open in places revealing the workings of its insides.

Victor walked over to the monitor and typed in a series of commands before turning his attention back to Jessica “this guy has been inactive for the past four years. I’ve been working on repairing him little by little. I finally got my hands on what I hope is the last component.”
“Okay this is officially weird. Is that a robot?”
“It’s a fully functional android. Or at least it was before it tangled with the Cyber Samurai.”
“Cyber Samurai? What happened, did I step into a science fiction movie?”
“Not hardly” Victor replied “it was November” he began recounting the encounter “your parents were otherwise engaged when the villain struck.”
Jessica thought about that “that was my thirteenth birthday. We were racing go-carts on the track outside of Vinnie’s. I remember you now. You were there.”
“That’s right” Victor said “I was monitoring the Birdseye for threats to the city while your parents made sure you had an uninterrupted party. When the crazy Japanese cyborg started beheading people downtown I tried contacting your dad. But he had turned the communicator off.”
“So you came to let him know what was going on” she said in realization “that’s what you two were whispering about. But dad never left.”
“Nope instead he gave me access to Shadow Blade” the man said pointing to the robot “but during its battle with the Samurai it was severely damaged. Its targeting parameters were erased causing it to label everyone a threat. It started slaughtering people instead of saving them.”
“So how were they stopped?”
That’s when Victor picked up one of the weapons from the rack. It looked just like Jessica’s hairdryer except it was made of chrome. He smiled at her and winked as he aimed it at a small electronic monitor on the far side of the room and squeezed the trigger.
An electrical beam shot forth frying the monitor as he spoke “localized EMP gun. I finally got to see some real action. Shadow Boy saves the day! Or at least that’s what the papers should’ve said.”
She could see that this man must’ve been a teen sidekick of her parents at one point. It seemed he was still trying to live up to their heroism. Victor replaced the EMP gun and pulled a small computer chip from his shirt pocket. Then he opened the back of the android’s head and inserted it.
“That should do it. New targeting chip should keep it from hurting innocents. Now we should activate it so that it can protect the city until you’re full trained and ready to step in.”
“Wait a minute” Jessica nearly shouted “what about my parents? We have to find them.”
Victor shook his head vehemently “no they didn’t want you involved with that mission. Shadow Hawk and Raptor wanted you to protect this city in their absence.”
“With or without your help Vick, I’m going to Moscow to rescue them!”
jerod26: Have to make it to ComiCon at least once in my life. I'd like to do before the boys (13 and 15) fly the coop. Have a general plan to meet up with my brother (and his son) sometime within the next 3 years. Alternative is the Chicago Wizard Con.
new midnight avenger: Intense. Will Johnny shoot his friend? Or is he good enough to hit the shot glass on his head and set him free? :o
