Lana's childhood friend is back, but there's a problem. She's still a child, and she's supposed to have died years ago in a tragic accident.
Is she a ghost? Lana seems to think so. Lana's friend Emily died when they were little girls on a foot bridge in the woods. She tragically fell into the water and drowned. So how can she come back now? The answer lies with Lionel Luthor as does a lot of what goes wrong in Smallville. The little girl's father seems to know something that nobody else does. He is seen talking to Emily as she swings outside. When he tells Emily she can't play with Lana Lang again, she appears to savagely murder him. Why would the ghost of his beloved daughter do this? Emily is really a clone that her father created to help end his sadness over his little girl's tragic death. A clone that was funded by Lionel Luthor. She appeared to others to pop out of nowhere like a ghost due to an ability to move at super speed. Clark is able to figure this out since he himself can travel at great speeds.
Little clone Emily tries to drown Lana at the same bridge the real Emily died at, but Clark is able to pull her out of the water and save her. Emily's father having survived her attack must now face giving Emily up forever to Lionel Luther. Lionel claims Emily as part of Luther Corp property, an experiment gone wrong. Could this somehow lead up to the origin of Bizarro someday on Smallville? Only time will tell.
