The problems start when Lex's mansion is bugged by his father and he loses a multimillion dollar deal. Lex decides to bug his father back, but the team of buggers he hired have some separate plans that are not on the agenda, plans of robbing Luther Corp at Metropolis. Martha Kent just happens to be there and becomes a hostage along with Lionel Luthor. Jonathan has to ask Lex for a helicopter ride to Metropolis, while Clark gets there on his own steam.
Clark's efforts to get inside are thwarted by an overly
aggressive police officer who actually points a gun at him demanding he
come with her away from the building.
Clark's only option to get to the Luther Corp building comes from above. He proposes to Pa Kent that he jump from the Daily Planet to the Luther Corp building. Jonathan's remarks, "Don't you have a fear of heights!". (Totally classic line to think of Superman has being afraid of heights.)
Meanwhile, the bad guys are getting irritated because
all they find in the vault is meteor rocks and strangely enough
the key to Clark's spaceship. Clark summons up the courage to run
and jump from the Daily Planet to the Luther Corp building. If this jump
is any indication, he will need a lot more practice before flying around
the city as Superman.
Clark breaks his way in but almost succumbs to the kryptonite if not for Martha's quick thinking in rolling the green k back into the vault. Quickly Martha tells Clark to burn the files that Lionel Luthor had in the vault on Clark, and the bad guys are thwarted but not until Lionel shoots one of them in the back. Which is pretty good shooting for a supposed blind guy. The next scene is truly a classic, as we see yet another time how the cold relationship between Lex and his father must play a huge role in the future evil deeds of Lex Luthor. As the Kents are hugging one another in tears of joy, Lionel coldly advises Lex that he will be moving out of the mansion. Obviously he blames Lex for what has transpired. The song "Tomorrow" by SR-71 plays in the background with the words " I'm not afraid of tomorrow, I'm only scared of myself". You can't help but feel a cold chill as you watch Lex Luthor standing all alone while you listen to the words of "Tomorrow". For who knows what tomorrow will bring for Lex Luthor. Will he follow the path of his father, perhaps become even more evil in comparison, or bravely forge his own destiny?
