Martha Kent and the young Clark Kent

On this episode Clark gets a major surprise when a red headed woman shows up at Smallville High and claims to be his mother. This causes the Kent's to have to revisit the day they adopted Clark. The woman, Rachel Dunleavy, also claims to Lex Luthor that Lionel Luthor got her pregnant and made her give her son up.  Thus she leads Lex to believe that Clark and he are brothers.

Clark demands to know what went on the day he was adopted. So Jonathan tells him the story. Jonathan starts at the day of the meteor shower and tells how he loaded the ship up into a truck and ran into Lionel Luthor along the road. This is occurred immediately after the meteor shower had struck near the young Lex Luthor causing him to go bald. Lionel in a panic begs Jonathan Kent for help. Of course Jonathan helps and takes him to the hospital. Lionel gratefully tells Jonathan to call him anytime he needs help.

Before Jonathan can finish his story, the sheriff pulls up and drops some bad news. Rachel Dunleavy has put in a court order for a blood test from Clark.  Clark and Pete take care of that situation by breaking into  the lab later on in the show.

Meanwhile Lana visits her newly discovered biological father with disappointing results.  Apparently he's not interested in revisiting the past, and doesn't want to be bothered.

Lex is drugged by Rachel Dunleavy and kidnapped. She demands that Lionel Luthor hold a press conference to claim Clark's adoption was a sham, and that Clark is his son or she will kill Lex. Lionel refuses to abide by those demands, and Clark ends up being the only one who can save Lex. The use of Clark's powers to save Lex, convinces Dunleavy that Clark is not her son. Fortunately, she is deemed insane so nobody finds out about Clark's powers.

Lana Lang gets some good news. Her new found father meets her at the Talon to talk.

The Kents finish  the story of Clark's adoption. Apparently after Lionel Luthor helped the Kents in making the adoption go through those years ago, Lionel Luthor demanded of Jonathan that he help convince the Ross brothers to sell their factory to him.  Fearful of losing Clark, Jonathan agreed. Jonathan kept it a secret as not to cause Clark to blame himself that Lionel Luthor was able to get such a foothold on Smallville and cheat so many of of Smallville's citizens, including Pete's family.

More is revealed at the Luthor mansion, as Lex confronts his dad about the whereabouts of his brother from Rachel Dunleavy. Lionel tells Lex that his brother died after his first birthday. But after Lex leaves the room we see Lionel holding a picture of him and a boy who appears to a lot older than one and he's not bald.
