Precipice brings a new sheriff, a new Lana Lang, and brings Lex Luthor new insight into his future wife's past. First Lana is attacked at the Talon and Clark saves her as usual, but he throws one of the attackers into the new sheriff's windshield. The new Sheriff Nancy Adams isn't exactly full of sunshine either. She makes Clark do community service for saving the day. Pete and Chloe think this hilarious and even come up with a slogan. " In Smallville stop the crime do the time".
Lana decides it's time for a new Lana Lang and starts to train to defend herself. Lex's girlfriend has a wacky old boyfriend, Paul, show up, and he wants Helen back one way or the other. After Paul brutally attacks Helen, Lex goes out for revenge and the new sheriff ain't even going to stop him! Lex finds Paul at the trainstation, and almost blows the guy away. He settles for punching him out, and of course the sheriff shows up just in time to take the bad guy away. The new sheriff threatens Lex," If I catch you meddling in a police investigation again, I swear, heaven help you." A real sweetheart, the sheriff seems more concerned with someone else possibly making her look bad or getting the credit than whether or not the bad guy gets caught.
Lana gets into it with her attacker again, but this time she kicks his butt by herself without Clark around. Lex proposes to Helen and all is well in Smallville again.
