Morgan Edge is back with a new face, thanks to plastic surgery. Lex Luthor confronts Morgan about Lex's suspicions that his father, Lionel Luthor, had his own parents killed years ago. Thus begins the apparent breakdown of Lex Luthor.
Shortly thereafter, Lex is attacked by a gunman in the mansion and jumps through a window, barely escaping certain death. Luthor goes to the Kent farm where he tells Clark that Morgan Edge is alive and that he has evidence of his father's past murders.
Clark goes to the mansion to investigate and only
finds one small piece of glass to evidence the break in. It
otherwise appears as if there had been no gunman there at all. Lex's hallucinations are apparently caused by
Lionel's having him drugged. Lionel also utilizes the expertise of Lex's psychiatrist
to further perpetrate the appearance of Lex's insanity. Clark hides
Lex out with Lana at the Smallville stables, but Lex's drug induced
hysteria causes a terrible accident where a horse tramples Lana. Lana ends
up in the hospital. Lex goes after Morgan Edge where he confirms that Lionel is responsible for Lex's being drugged. Clark rushes in only to get beat down with Kryptonite by Edge. Lex shoots Edge, but Lex decides he then has to kill Clark as well. Fortunately, Morgan Edge is only wounded and escapes. This causes Lex to chase after him leaving Clark to get away from the Kryptonite. As Lex rushes out Edge tries to run him down in his car, but now fully recovered Clark pushes Lex to safety. The car wraps around Clark revealing his super powers to a psychotic Lex Luthor, who exclaims "Your not even human!" Luthor's story of Clark's powers only helps to get him thrown into an asylum where Lionel watches in apparent anguish. In the background the haunting song Hurt is played by the late legendary singer Johnny Cash.
