Like I said I can't recall his name but like I said anyone in the U S had really better hope he is way off track.

In taking a look at the different superman suits over the years (on the superman hompage, sorry Tim) and the fact that an awful lot of us bagged the new one to death, mainly because of the shade of red that they used. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the different shades of blue that have been used aswell and the fact that all but one of the men who have played superman have worn a suit that was basically sky blue in colour. I made a similar comment on the message board on the superman hp with regards to the fact that all but one of the times Jor-El was a highly respected Kryptonian scientist. I think that this is main reason for the mainly sky blue used in his big and small screen performances. Now there was one exception to this rule and it was Lois and Clark in which Jor-El was a Kryptonian king and not a scientist. The people who made Lois and Clark must have planned this part of the storyline very early in the series because Dean was the only person who played superman in a royal blue suit. Did anyone else notice this little fact aswell? I, personally, think that Bryan Singer should have put Chris' "S" on Dean's suit and that would have looked great. Hey Tim, maybe you, or someone else who is a bit more computer savvy than myself, should have a go at a bit digital doctoring of the suits just to see how it looks.

There are a lot of people hoping this issue will go away. One of them is Bryan Singer. Another would be the distributors and the Mattel toy company, which has stupidly embraced the design changes to the costume in an obvious attempt to turn lemons into lemonade.
The ranting over the costume will continue unabated until the Summer 2006 release of the film. My own purpose in posting here is to bring my own informed opinion to the dialogue, after being immersed in things Superman for more than three decades.
That the costume has been radically changed is beyond argument. That the textural alterations, design modifications and color shifts have taken away, rather than added to the character is undeniable. A lesson is about to be learned by Bryan Singer that Richard Donner didn't have to learn the hard way:
You simply do not mess with an American cultural folk hero and icon without repercussions.
Everything has been covered here in more than enough detail....the emblem looks like the Mattel logo should be printed on the shirt. The cape looks like leather and is too long. The belt is the joke of the entire suit, complete with an "S" logo that appeared only on the Ben Cooper costume versions of the 60s for Halloween. The trunks look like something a gay man would wear. The boots are too short. The colors are too dark and murky.
All of that is a matter of record. Mattel has chosen to embrace these damnable changes and take the issue head-on, trying to sell it to the 5 and up crowd and, by association, their parents.
For those who don't care, the only issue will be whether or not the film entertains with a solid story and good special effects. But in my past experience, when someone like Singer will screw with the costume, they can usually be trusted to screw with something else that takes the film down.
Look at the tonal changes in the last three Star Wars epics, compared to the cinematic sparkle of the first three. The drab characterizations compared to the memorable characters of the original films. The combination of drama and fun, as opposed to the dark seriousness of the prequels, and the thinly disguised elements designed to cater to the always present merchandising.
Marlon Brando's Jor-El is about to see a Kal-El that he doesn't recognize. Singer and his costume designers made a serious creative error in reasoning that because it's 2006, everything has to have the same "edginess" as the Batman franchise. Where does it go from here? What could have been continuity between Superman 2 and Superman Returns was spoiled single-handedly by this notoriously altered suit that bears no resemblance to its predecessor.
And therein is part of the problem. The biggest hurdle that Brandon Routh has to get over is the inevitable, if not unfair comparisons to the greatest Superman of all time, Chris Reeve. It would be one thing if Chris were alive to give his blessings to the film, as Dana did just before she passed away. But with Reeve gone, he has slipped into the status of a cultural icon, an act never to be followed.
Some filmgoers may not give Routh his fair chance, and the bastardization of the costume just makes it that much tougher on this young, hungry actor to make good with his biggest break. The costume defines Superman. It is up to the actor who wears the suit to bring life to the character under it.
But when it's as screwed up as this monstrosity is, all I can say is that Brandon has his work cut out for him. It will depend entirely on how many side shots, flying sequences or rapid movement frames can distract us from the dreadfulness of the design, combined with a compelling story line that helps us forget that this only barely looks like Superman.
If the story fails in the slightest, or the special effects fail -- or even if they succeed -- the nerd factor of this costume's design might still be enough to destroy the credibility of the film if we traditionalists can't get beyond it.
Speaking for myself, while I intend to attend this film the week it is released, I expect it to be dead on arrival. I, for one, can't get past the suit.
It's not the Superman I know and love.

Generalzod what the heck?! I don't understand your angry outburst my friend. If you disagree with the man why not give your reasons. This is a message board for discussions not a dart board.
I understand where he's coming from. I really want the movie to be good, and I think there is hope, but I really do wish the costume was more like Reeve's. I don't think we have any way of knowing if the movie is going to be all dark and edgy yet. I hope it's not of course. I'm tired of the modern dark edgy movies. Don't get me wrong that works great for Batman, but Superman is like a symbol of hope like the American eagle or the Statue of Liberty.
You should walk away from the theatre feeling better than when you walked in if it is to be truly successful. __________________
Very well said SupermanOficianado. General Zod, what is your problem? Everyone on here respects everyone's opionios, you need to do the same thing. That suit there looks great. It still needs a oval belt buckel.

As a huge Superman fan, I am anxiously awaiting to see the new film. But, what I am not looking forward to is the new costume. When i first saw pictures of it, I thought maybe my glasses were foggy, but than I realized that Mr.Singer decided to go with a whole new look.
First of all, in my opinion, the colors are too dark. If you look close enough to the material the suit is made of, it looks like it has scales. He's not a fish! The S on his chest, is too small, and too puffed out..sure 3D is cool, but come on now. And speaking of the famous "S" logo that's synonymous with Superman, there is no yellow version of it on the cape, and instead of the average belt buckle, an S shield appears. Now you're about to see how obervant I am. In the Chris Reeve movies, his hair is parted to the left, where Mr. Roth's is parted to the right. I know that's a little thing to notice, but that's how big a fan I am.
I would have to say that I agree 110% with Joecooler2u..The only obvious choice is Tom Welling, HANDS DOWN..I mean, after all, Christopher Reeve himself, said that Tom was the ideal person to carry on the legacy..Was Bryan Singer having hearing problems?..Sorry Mr. Singer. They should have waited with the entire cast of Smallville...that's whatever wanted to see..not some unknown from a soap opera..
Peace

Hey...it's me again,
I just remembered something else. If this is suppose to pick up years after Superman II, than what happened to part III and IV. Ok, they weren't that great, but for all the die hard superman fans out there, they're still part of the phenomenon that is
the Man of Steel.
It should be picked up where the fourth one left off. I thought that Nuclear Man was awesome.
Anyway, that's just my opinion.
Also, I saw the trailer for the new movie, why are they showing Clark as a teen again. We have been through that in the first movie. If this is Superman Returns, what's the point of having that in the movie. I can just popped in the lst movie and watch those scenes, or watch in played out every thursday on Smallville.

I think the new costume looks great! I think Bryan knows exactly what he was doing with the movie. I have seen the movie and I think it was increadible. I plan on seeing it again in theaters soon. The suit looked good on Brandon. Maybe not if it was on someone else, but that is who they were making it for, the new superman. Tom Welling would have been a bad choice for this movie. Yes, he is good in Smallville, but I don't feel he is ready to put on the blue tights and red cape quite yet.

I think that the colours of the suit were dark so they didn't appear to bright on the digital film as someone elsewhere said. It looked good when he was moving but still quite dark whenever he stood still. I thought that it was rather funny when Perry made a comment about the new suit in the movie. Brandon is Superman with all respects now and forever R.I.P. Chris your torch has been passed to a worthy person.

Hey fans I don't know what all the fuss is about. The original suit looks fine, but it is 60 some years old.. Kal-El's suit dosen't make him who he is, what he believes in and what he has been through make him a Super Man I like the new costume for one. It's more modern, Sup can't be stuck in the 70's forever he has to evolve just like the world around him. Those bright gay party colors are a little clownish now days, I'm pleased that Singer toned them down a bit, although the Shield could be larger everything else is fine. Terrrific material very stylish and expensive... The blue boy doesn't need to be smirked at he should be looked up to and idolized as always, stop judging him by his suit just because your afraid to evlove haters JK, Now Brandon sounded chilingly like Christopher Reeves in the movie in parts, and he did a good job, but Tom Welling is so incredibly awesome I can't believe he wasn't even considered for the roll. That was BS if you ask me. He is an exceptional actor with the look, and physic, and experience needed to pull off a tall order like But it's too late to back pedal now, so get used to it. Also the movie kicked major butt so why complain now. Although I don't think anything is set in stone, I think the writers should incorporate different ideas, for instance why should be stuck with one costume? I have more than one uniform for work. He should go with Black and silver some days and blue with red and no yellow other days and maybe red, white, and blue all american hero for the 4th of July. Are you going to critisize his fashion sence after he catches your burning plane and sets it down to safety. Get your priority's straight fans the hero comes before the suit and the clothes do not make the Man but it shure helps if they look cool, Tell me i'm wrong baby, till next time keep looking up

PS THE PICTURE OF BRANDON THAT TIM posted preveously looks very good, with the original colored costume That's why it's so hard to decide on one costume. Could you pic one shirt or pants or pair of shoes to wear forever and never mix n match? and neither should the Man of Steel, he's earned the right to alternate wardrobe don't you agree

The whole costume is just wrong for me. The whole outfit reminds me of those pajamas little boys wear in the winter, you know the kind that snap together at the waist. Although I doubt any self respecting little boy would wear them with the bikini panty...
The colors, except for the blue, are all wrong. The emblem is whimpy and small and looks like it was made out of clay and patted on. It looks like it might come off during flight. As a matter of fact, the whole outfit looks clayish. The boots, the cape, the neckline--everything sucks. And leather!!?? No, no, no... To me, Christopher Reeves had the best costume and will always be the best superman.

Honestly I liked the new suit. The 'S' insignia looked great, they changed it a bit but not to much and i liked the design too bc the 'S' looked realistic not like an iron on in previous costumes. The 'S' in the belt was a good add in too. Boots were fine also...
The main prob i see with the suit is that dark red, they should brightened it up a notch and the 'S' has to be bigger. Blue and Yellow was fine... AND HOW COULD THEY MISS THE YELLOW 'S' ON THE CAPE!~@!~ that really ticked me off... lol
