Eww.. Okay where shall i start. The logo looks Like some one has waxed it on with a candle, Dull pants and Boots.. And i thought the cape started on the shoulders, not on the neck. Just an opinion please feel free to argue against it lol. I just personally dont like it. Cheers

I just read on the superherohype site that 58 percent in a poll on that site's board say they don't like the suit, and 41 percent do like it. Maybe Bryan Singer is going to have to rethink the suit. Perhaps he should get with Jeph Loeb from Smallville or others comic pros in designing the suit. Maybe he should go back to the Christopher Reeve suit.

I was hoping I wasn't alone in not caring for the new costume. I don't like the shade of red or yellow used. I like the shade of blue but not for superman. The "S" insignia is way to small and i don't like its design. I think they should have used Alex Ross's Insignia design. Bigger is better. The boots have some kind of lines or design on them that I don't like. I do like the insignia being used for the belt buckle even though I wouldn't have used it if it were me. I don't like that the top is a crew neck, it needs to be more open and the cape is attached wrong in my opinion. I hope the don't have his hair all gelled up as Superman. Think about it when would he have time to stop and gel up his hair when someone is in trouble, even if he is superfast. Last thing I promise, the red underwear part looks more like some bikini bottoms, they could have made them look a little longer.
Posted:  28 Apr 2005 22:28
Yeah the S should be bigger and the shorts are definitely too short. I don't think it's the worst thing in the world, but I would have went with a version much like Christopher Reeve's suit.

Don't get me wrong, I like the costume but not for Superman you know. I still can't wait to see the movie and I'm sure it's gonna kick ass but I just don't like the costume for Superman and I'm not crazy about Brandon Routh but I'll have to see the movie because I've never seen him in anything before.

I do not like it.  The symbol is too short, it needs to be better proportioned.  The red is too dull, it needs to be brighter.  The whole thing looks as if it is made of rubber, it should be cloth.  I don't like how the logo is "attached" to the suit.  It should be one part, and finally, I do not like the logo on his belt.  It makes it look like Batman's utility belt.

I really do hope once the final product is out. It's going to rock. Although I think the costume should have been more like the old ones, without seeing the final product it's hard to judge. It's hard to imagine that Bryan Singer didn't know what initial reaction would be so maybe when it's all put together on screen it will work in a way that we can't imagine from one picture. I mean if we hadn't seen the orginal Superman movie do you think we might have laughed at Christopher Reeve?

I still however have to say I hate the short shorts. They do look like panties. I was talking to my family while driving home about the new Superman and I told my kid about it, and then as I like to joke around a lot something popped into my head. Maybe they'll have to change the Superman motto
"Bend steel in his bare hands, able to match the drapes and the curtains, change the course of mighty rivers, and make sure the dishes are spotless,
faster than a speeding bullett, and really fast when there is a sale on, etc.
Sorry I couldn't resist. My kid thought it was funny.

I think they lost the vision on this whole costume idea.  I got a cal from my bro telling me they were trying to stay old school by not going with the muscle costume (like Batman), bu hey jaced this one up.  Logo is not big enough...maroon instead of red.  That is just BOOTY!!  That means crap by the way.  They have him wearing his shorts like some California bimbo.  Oh yeah, abd the cape is wrong.  It is supposed to be higher on he shoulders.

Love everybody's remarks. To add, I was hoping a new Superman costume might find a way to modernize the one worn by Christopher Reeve in the original Superman movies but not at the expense of what most would agree is authentic Superman representation. Specifically, I think a cotton, polyester, 5% spandex costume with bright colours and no leather would be approp. Some comics have gone with a CEO-looking Superman and Bryan Singer's lead actor looks a little too intimidating. Truth is, Superman and his suit should evoke trust, simplicity and brightness. I do think Tom Welling in something Martha Kent-made would be "out-of-this-world" awesome!

I think maybe Bryan Singer is reading comments like this all over the web, and will probably be rethinking the movie costume thing.

For me the costume is the main thing I am looking forward to in the new movie.
but I don't like this costume at all.

WRONG shade of red,it should be bright RED.(marroon is for when he turns bad!!)
WRONG neckline, should be more open.
WRONG the way the cape is attached, it should be tucked in at both sides in the open neckline.
WRONG the boots, should be more fitted, higher to the knee and no fancy lines.
WRONG the belts  'S'  is too much and trying to be clever. Chris reeves was perfect.
WRONG pants ...too tight, looks like a 70's porn star.

Like the shade of blue though.
I heard the cape would be regal looking, er it aint!
NO LEATHER: superman wouldn't use animal products from earth, he loves us all

COME ON design team, you got the Spiderman costume right, just stick to the blueprints guys...if it aint broke don't fix it.
Posted:  02 May 2005 23:11
ummmm, did any one see were the "S" went? Oh, there it is. LOL.

I think they need to throw it away and start from scratch.

I am new to this forum, but what the hell? When did they get some guy other than Tom Welling to play Superman? I don't think I am going to like this guy, he does not look very super...
Posted:  06 May 2005 15:37
The colors are off- the boots, cape and trunks are to dark.  The"S" is to small and to high on the body. I dont like the 3-d design on the logo. The neck of the costume needs to be cut down, so it wont look like a long sleeve t-shirt, the cape should meet at the sides of the neck opening.  The Chris Reeve suit blows the New one away.  Up close the new suit looks like rubber.  If that is the finished product they need to start over.  Tom Wlling would look much better then Brandon Roth.null

Sorry guys but maybe you should go back to the archives and use the original 1978 costume design as the 2005 one sucks, it doesnt say Superman but more like superboy, Guys please dont mess this one up, they messed up hulk with all that CGI blurr please understand that this is The Worlds best Superman, the worlds most famous alien. Our last hope, If its not broken dont fix it, colours are wrong S too small and please dont do that girly fancy thing to the belt it clearly doesnt work, Just go by a comic and stick to the formula and if you would like me to send you my ideas the email at macauley4u@hotmail.com Its not about throwing money at it but love, thats what the Salkinds did!

ah man....the constume just sucks!!!the colours are so dull and boring...the logo shud be bigger and i really hate the cape...first time seeing a cape startin from da shoulders...and one more thing...i think tom welling shud play the role of superman!!

sorry...from the neck...

I think the new costume sucks! Wrong colours - primary colours of red/blue/yellow catch the eye and stand out from all backgrounds in films. Can you imagine Superman pulling a cat out of a tree in the night? He would blend into the background!! C'mon guys, if it ain't broke, why fix it?? Also, bikini pants are not a turn on to younger viewers and went out with button-up boots!

I put on the "Christopher Reeve Film Festival" in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1987. I had the "Superman IV Flying Costume" for display purposes (it even had Chris's white talcum/perspiration marks under the arms and a ladder in the left heel running up under the boot area). See girls? Even Superman gets a run in his tights!! The red wool cape had small lead weights in the hem to make it drape correctly when suspended from nylon lines in flying shots to look authentic as he "flew". The lycra suit fitted all sizes - believe me! I am 5'4" and it fitted me (naughty - it was on loan with specific instructions not to be worn). A 6'5" reporter with the Melbourne "Sun" newspaper wore it for a publicity shot to advertise the Film Festival. When he came out of the changeroom and walked into the open area of the newspaper office I nearly collapsed on the spot! He might have been Christopher - the walk, the muscular blue legs and the swaying cape ... stunning!

The costume speaks for itself. I have been reading "Superman" comics since the early 1950s and watched George Reeves on TV as a teenager. No-one lives up to Christopher Reeve in the costume! The costume has a life of its own, instantly recognisable as "Superman the Man of Steel" - don't mess with our Hero! Indeed, don't mess with the best Superman we have or ever will have, Christopher Reeve!

Tom Welling is the only suitable candidate for the "Superman Returns" title role - he has the looks, the height and the physique. Christopher was a skinny 26 yr old when he began filming Superman the Movie - by "Superman II" he had bulked up. It is obvious in the film when one looks at the scenes preshot from Superman the Movie and edited into Superman II. If he could bulk-up, so can Tom Welling. Pay whatever is needed to put a clause in his "Smallville" contract to allow him to star in the new "Superman Returns" movie and give us a Hero and Costume we - the fans and paying public - can believe in.

The catchline for Salkind's "Superman the Movie" was "You will believe a man can fly" - well, baby, this guy is falling out of the sky and his costume won't save him. Give us a costume we can recognise instantly; an actor who looks like our concept of Superman - sensitive but strong (Tom Welling); and a believable script! Do justice to the Myth! Don't ruin it as "Superman IV" was, by Golan & Globus not paying up front for the flying sequence computer programs. Get it right! And you will have "bums on seats."

PS: I stood in the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney on Australia Day weekend 2004 and, down the runway circling the Ballroom, to the booming sound of the "Superman" theme by John Williams, Christopher rode 30 feet towards me - looking straight into my eyes and grinning from ear to ear. It was as if he was saying, "I'm back!! Isn't this fantastic? I think I am going to burst with joy!" The man was beautiful, inside and out - don't betray the integrity he brought to the role.

Hi guys
I'm new at this forums but a long time fan of superman

What I think about the new costume (as if! it looks the same as the old one) well since Bryan Singer is the one who will be bringing back this superhero to the silver screen again (and I thank him for that). I would suggest to rethink the costume allover again, like what he did on those x-men movies, all black (but not leather) no fancy colors like the past. Since he doens't want to copy the old story line, why not also change the old style costume. And the "S" should be more striking to his enemies and if he will be changing it to black the S should be white. Try experimenting it would'nt hurt and one more thing try to lose the cape its old school type of hero, your rebuilding a new one remember . The cape is not doing him anygud try to lose it PLEASE (it doesn't serve anything)

I've been reading Superman comics since I learned how to read. The red is all wrong on this suit. It is a BRIGHT red, not this dull imitation. The rest of the suit I can live with (see the original movies, comics and animated series, the suit has been revised many times. Also take a look at the TV show with George Reeves & the new animated versions). To the powers that be in the movie industry, Please make the red RED.
Posted:  09 May 2005 12:32
They should've stick to the Superman suit back in '78- coz that's how Superman looks. And of course, if there's someone who should play Superman like Christopher Reeve did it's Tom Welling. I would rather see him wearing the costume like Chris did.

Well here is my two cents.....

I don't like the boots....
I don't like the small emblem on his chest...
I don't like the neckline....
I don't like the colors....

I hope the trunks doesn't reveal that the Man of Steel is Jewish or not....

Brandon Routh...hmmm...He is good looking but Superman has got the most beautiful BLUE eyes....kinda like Tom Welling...

I also hope his cape is FULL and furling in the wind...that's my favorite part of our hero that RED and flowing cape...
Posted:  10 May 2005 00:35
Hell NO!!!
I really think you should stick with the good one.  Ressurect the suit from the movies, put Tom Welling in and have a hit at the box office.  There is no way that suit will be popular among the fans.  Please, for goodness sake, dont use that suit.  Its too dark for Superman, he supposed to be a beacon of light not of the darkness like Batman should be.  Email me if you think Im wrong!
Posted:  10 May 2005 22:31
Well, for the sake of originality, it's pays to retain the classic superman costume. I think it would more implicate and justify Superman being the "Man of Steel" if the classic colors be turned into soft mettalic blue/red to add luster to the costume and make it appear more futuristic.
Posted:  12 May 2005 21:14
I think the new costume is a let down.  There is still a lot of old costume in it.  Tinseltowners (or whoever) need to realize that SPANDEX has been out a long time ago!!  How about costumes in the likes of the Batman movies.  Can't they come up with some hyped up, beefy, stylish rubber costume that will make up for the flabby looking waist lines, poor muscle tone, etc. in our newest "Man of Steel"?? We are talking SUPERMAN here!!!  Hello??
Posted:  20 May 2005 15:42
I hate the new costume. When you long for a costume from the 70's and 80's over a new one then you know it's a bad job. Imagine Batman movie with his costume being the 60's version. That's how off this costume is for me.

Superman should be bright and represent all the good in the world not be a dark being like Batman. Batman you can use darkness, same for X-Men, Superman? Nope.

The Superman logo has to be big and impressive as well as stylish. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Christopher Reeve's Superman symbol. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

What I do like about the new costume is the brightness of the blue. The red color is too dark. Bright red. Also the shorts are too short. Who wants to watch Superman and wonder if he has a wedgie?

If designers can make Spiderman cool sticking to his classical look why can't these guys figure out that sticking to the classics with Superman would work best. The character survived on the same looks and costume for over 50 years. Why change it and ruin fan expectations?

I agree this movie is casted about as wrong as you can go. I'd have waited and made Tom Welling Superman. Besides Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain I think Tom Welling would have been the natural evolution for this generation. Way to ruin an icon! Also the rest of the Smallville cast should be in this movie. Who else could come close to MR as Lex Luthor?
Posted:  01 Jun 2005 01:05
The color of the suit is still wrong. Primary colors blue, yellow and RED. Even dirty it is still a red cape shorts & boots. Remember when Superman had to fly into the sun to clean the suit? Maroon is not a Superman color.

As far as the actor goes I'll wait and see before I make up my mind. The design of the suit is easy for me to live with as the Superman costume has changed and evolved with every new comic artist over the years.

My only complaint is with the colors being used. Fix the colors and you fix the biggest problem.

Sign me a Superman fan since the early 50's.

VegasRick do you have any of the old Superman comic books from the 1950's? If you do I will gladly take care of them for you.
