SupermanTV.net Forum / Superman / Smallville / How does Jor-El Speak from the dead?

Does anybody have a scientific guess on how Jor-El speaks to Clark even though he's dead? Is it a time travel thing, or just a computer program similating Jor-El's wishes?

That is a good question Tim. I would hazzard a guess and say that Jor-El in Smallville, like in the movies, has tried to anticipate Clark's questions in the order of there importance to him(Clark). Probably trying to anticipate all questions Clark will ask and having a response to all of them but I'll bet he does anticipate everything. I think as a parent he could take an educated guess at most but as most parents know "from the mouths of babes" is just so unpredictable sometimes.

That's a pretty good guess. I think that's similar to what they were doing on the movie, but I think it may have also had to do with their technology arranging the responses depending on the question.

But I also wonder though, if Jor-El via some time machine viewer can actually see Clark from Krypton in the past, and is communicating that way. It's a departure from the movie, but there seems to be an awful lot of manipulating going on from Jor-El that he would have had to speculate on if he devised all this in the past without prior knowledge.

What do you think? Too comic booky for Smallville?

jor-el imprinted his life essence in the cave, octaganal key thats how he talks to clark.

Tim, it's a tv show they can do whatever they like, to a degree. smallville21, that is an interesting view and I can see what you mean by the octagonal key but not so much the cave. The impression we got of jor-el in the episode "Relic" leads me to believe he is a good person and chose the Kents because they are good people. However I kind of tend to agree with Tim on this because the way he is manipulating Clark now would have us think he is in some way still alive. Think about it, smallville21, if you chose the Kents to raise your son because you knew you were going to die but could see the good person they had raised him to become would you feel the need to interfere to make a manaical, all-powerfull tyrant unless you could interfere for the sake of maybe not wanting to let go.

That sounds like one of those quick explanations you might hear on Smallville when they don't want to spill the beans yet. It's more like a play on words than a explanation. I hope they eventually give us something with a little more detail.
smallville21 did you hear that on one of the episodes? I feel like I heard it on there at one time.

Surely, in the end Jor-El will be seen as a good guy, but of course it's funny that he's coming across as evil and the ultimate evil dude Terence Stamp aka Zod is doing his voice. Wouldn't it be aweseome if it turned out Jor-El was Zod this whole time, and was just trying to use Clark from the Phantom Zone. That would explain a lot, and what curve ball that would be!

I like what you were saying before Tim about Jor-El having a time viewer. I don't know if that would work for Smallville or not but I'd like to see it. I don't know how many of you read the 12 issue mini-series Superman Birthright but in the last issue you find out that Jor-El and Lara have a time viewer and see their son as Superman and see that he made it to earth ok and what he became. So it would be cool if they had something like that.

oh yeah, Now that I would like to see.

cool KalEl, I haven't got that whole mini series yet. I didn't know the time viewer angle was in there. I get my comics a little at a time via the cheap 50 cent boxes at comic conventions.

I'm sure that with Krypton's High Tech World they could have invented an algorithim sequence in those primative looking but so futuristic functioning crystal archives! I mean Old Earthly Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne Mansion Butler did, it in Batman & Robin, so Jor-El should not have had any problem!

Hey you know how Light takes time to travel from one place to another? So when you look across space, it's like you're looking back in time? Such as when we look at the sun, we're seeing how it looked 8 min ago. Mabey that has something to do with Jor-El.

No not really Aerolectric.  How do you explain the time it took Clark to even get to earth, grow up and then for those images to travel back across space and time to Jor-El on Krypton?  He would be looking at the past yes but how would that help him see the future?  i like the octagonal disc theory.  i do have to say Jor-El is anything but consistent.  Sometimes he doesn't seem all that bad and then the next moment he is as evil as Lionel.  The only thing that seems unexplainable is Jor-El’s ability to take away Clarks powers.  He is dead and seeing the future doesn’t help that.  The mark on Clark’s chest was from close contact (the ship I think) so if nothing of Jor-El’s (the key, the ship, the cave, or the fortress) was close to Clark, how did he affect him?

I was talking about reality, i have no idea how the whole aging process would work.

Yeah your observation of light in space and time is correct Aerolectric, no doubt, i am just saying it has no application to Jor-El.

Rember the kryptonians are more advanced than humans! So there evelution may far exceed ours so when they died they go on a higher plane of existance like Danial Jackson in Stargate sg-1 they just decend into a higher life form

i think once clark puts the crystal in the fortstress of soildtude he will to save the world*(filght/telesopic,photographic,super,radar vision, superman suit

good theory barry, it works on stargate but i think in the superman universe there is a far more complex explanation (or simpler one) than ascending to a higher plane.
