SupermanTV.net Forum / Superman / General Discussion / Superman Returns in relation to 9/11

Hey,
I am doing my thesis on superhero movies since September 11th. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this topic. With Superman Returns, I am analysing how Superman is humanised in this film more so than previous films. I'm also going to write about the casting of Kal Penn as Stanford.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't really see any relation to 9/11 and Superman Returns. I think the movie just went totally in the way Bryan Singer wanted to go. He was trying to get female audiences interested by making a lot of the romance between Clark and Lois.

Spider-Man the movie was more affected than any other. The Twin Towers was yanked as well as any scene in the movie featuring the Towers.

The Green Goblin bridge scene where the New Yorkers banded together to help Spider-Man hit home with a lot of people, and I think maybe the Spider-Man hanging on the flag pole might have been added to touch on the patriotic feel of the time.

Since then it seems like superhero movies have kind of steered away from the whole patriotism created by that day or any addressing of terrorism as well.

Seems like a perfect time for a new Captain America flick, eh?

Actually, after some serious thought, I think I'd much rather see a Nomad flick- such an under-rated comic.

I haven't scene any relations to 9/11. but you might want to add somewhere that when we were down in a "9/11 depression" Feloow people and Superheroes alike give us home for the future.
