Part THREE by STU
For the first time in his life, he dreamed.
J'onn J'onz could see others almost like himself, only they were a pale white. And yes, they possessed similar abilities. J'onn found himself waking up.
"Are you alright?" Diana asked.
"I'm...fine," J'onn replied. Secretly he was worried. Contact had been made.
"Where are you going?" he asked. Diana was dressed to impress.
"To the United Nations archaeological summit at San Baquero. Professor Madsen's made an important find there. I'm representing Themiscyra." That last word almost left a distaste in her mouth. She had found it much easier to represent the Justice Lords before the "Crossover Incident", as their parallel universe adventure became known. Now that most of the Earth had somewhat returned to normal, a different approach had to be taken to things.
"Be careful," J'onn warned. "You know we're not holding a strong hand at the moment."
Diana pointed at her bracelets, said "Kara's going to meet me there," then stood on the dais as technician Kyle operated the transporter.
"Look at this," Barbara said.
She had 'acquired' three terabytes of info, which had been uploaded into her computer.
"I can't believe this," Helena said. "They're almost like the Lords, except their Flash..."
"Yeah, he's still alive," Barbara replied. "And there are considerably more than the big seven."
Helena understood. "You're thinking we should contact them, ask them for help. They would just think it's another trap."
"We couldn't contact them anyway," Barbara said. "Bruce's dimensional viewer/transporter was confiscated right after his arrest. It was Professor Hamilton's property, or I should say, Superman's, since it was based on Kryptonian tech."
"It still is," Helena said.
Now that technology could be used to remove anyone standing in the Lords' way...
Unless someone could regain control of it...
"So this is a... what did you call it?" the military man with the eyepatch asked.
"It's a silicon-based lifeform, General Eiling," Professor Margaret Madsen replied. "At least twenty-five million years old. And it's humanoid," she added proudly.
"Professor, are you saying this creature is...human?" Sroya Bashir asked.
How am I going to conduct and tape this interview simultaneously when Olsen's unreliable?
It looked like a melted wax figure carved from granite.
"I'm saying this creature, as you call it, is older than any carbon-based humanoid species
discovered," Madsen replied. "It evolved along parallel lines, only apparently much sooner.
Since its genetic structure seems to be comprised of volcanic rock I've christened it Homo Hephaestus. "
"They're known to my people," Diana said. "They're also known to the Atlanteans. They can be extremely dangerous."
"How can a twenty-five million year old fossil be dangerous?" Madsen said.
"Just take my word for it," Diana said. "General, you might need to evacuate this expedition."
"Now wait just a minute," Madsen said irritatedely. "This is my expedition..."
"Which you have been allowed to conduct under our permission," Diana said. "Since you're being uncooperative, I'm going to have you placed under arrest and your artifact confiscated. general, place Professor Madsen under arrest. Kara, take the creature and return to the Watchtower. Kara?"
Where did she go, Diana wondered. She was here a few minutes ago.
Jimmy Olsen felt like Superman.
Kara always made him feel that way when they got together. He didn't mind being the boy toy of a Justice Lady. In his own mind, anyway.
" You like being subjugated," Kara teased., kissing him.
"No argument here," Jimmy said.
"Better find yourself another girlfriend, " said a voice like Kara's.
Galatea.
"Get out of here," Kara said to Jimmy. "You don't wanna get in the middle of this."
Jimmy obliged.
"I'm so gonna burn you a new one," Kara said, eyes glowing.
"That's funny," 'Tea said. "I was contemplating kickin' your S all over this planet."
"Bring it."
The media's tent imploded and Supergirl punched Galatea upward. Galatea retaliated with a kick to Supergirl's back, sending her plummeting to the ground.
Diana, arms held out, began a spin that transformed her into Wonder Woman. She took to the air and landed a punch in Galatea's midsection.
"Pick on someone your own size."
"Two against one? Where's the rest of you?" 'Tea taunted.
"We don't need the rest," Kara said. She fired a heat vision blast. Then a second.
The first hit 'Tea; the second hit Professor Madsen's prize.
As Wonder Woman flew toward 'Tea, she found herself attacked by what resembled an albino Pteranodon.
On the ground General Eiling and his men were swamped by an... inland tidal wave???
"I think you're gonna need them now," 'Tea said.
She returned WW's punch to the gut.
Kara knocked Galatea from behind. The pteranodon caught her and flew away.
The tidal wave went as fast as it came.
"I'm going after them," Kara said.
"Wait," said a voice over the com-link. It was J'onn.
"Return to the Watchtower at once," J'onn said.
Diana and Kara vanished.
"Let me go!" Madsen shouted.
"You're under arrest," a soldier said.
"They've ruined everything!" Madsen cried. Homo Hephaestus seemed to be rapidly melting.
Madsen was never more wrong. __________________
