Sarah Douglas, who played Phantom Zone villain Ursa in the first two Superman films, told The Continuum she thought that Richard Donner's re-cut version of the Superman II -- to be released on DVD on Nov. 28 -- was a better film.
"There is no doubt about the fact that it's a superior film to the one that came out," Douglas told The Continuum at the recent Wizard World Texas.
Douglas attended a screening of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut earlier this month in Los Angeles, where she was joined by Donner, Margot Kidder and many others involved with the Superman franchise.
"It was a lot of fun," Douglas said. "None of us had seen what we saw. It was better and more exciting than I could have anticipated."
What did she like about Donner's version?
"What I liked, really, is that (Marlon) Brando was more involved this time around," she said. "There was a lot more Brando. And it made more sense for the story."
Douglas also said the new version was a fitting tribute to Superman star Christopher Reeve.
"You can see Chris for what he really was, a very, very talented actor," Douglas said. "There was a lot more of that. You came away just going, 'Wow!' Aside from the fact that he looks fabulous and he was Superman, he always was a very, very good actor."
In terms of her own scenes, Douglas said there were some lines, but she would have to sit down and watch the re-cut version again to make comparisons.
Douglas said she enjoyed Superman Returns and wouldn't mind seeing her villainous trio show up again for director Bryan Singer's sequel. "We're a little bit past our prime, but there's no reason we couldn't come back as sort of elderly villains," she said.
She also noted she "would love to be on Smallville." Reeve, Kidder, Terrence Stamp and Annette O'Toole are all Superman film actors who have been on Smallville.
