SCI FI Wire chatted with Superman Returns co-writer Michael Dougherty who says there may be more than one villain in the sequel:
Michael Dougherty, co-writer of last year's Superman Returns, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming sequel will feature at least one villain drawn from the DC Comics franchise. Or more than one? "Maybe," Dougherty said __________________
Early talk over on Newsarama is that it could be Zod, which has everyone upset and I agree. I think we definitely need to see some new villians. I'd like to see Bizarro or another villian who is really gonna be a physical test for Superman. I want to see some direct Hero vs. Villian action, not Supes getting stabbed with Kryptonite and then kicked on the ground by Luthor's worthless hench men. Tho, if they're gonna use Zod, I hope they go with the current story arc "Last Son" thats going on in Action Comics right now. That way we'd get to see Bizarro, Luthor, and Zod. Man, I cant wait for the nest 2 issues of Action to be released. __________________
Nope, sorry Tim. The Action Comics annual #10 comes out Feb 7th, and then Action #846 comes out Feb 21st. Then #847 and #848 are scheduled, as of now, to ship March 7th. __________________

Whoa what's the delay?
Hey that annual doesn't have anything to do with the current storyline does it? If it does that means I got to drive down to the comic book. __________________

That's a good deal then, I never know when I have time to drive down to the comic shop. It's like 30 minutes away and lots of traffic. __________________
hello everyone. i haven't been around for a while but i saw the post about the villains for superman 2,or 4 if you wanna get technical, so i thought i'd offer my humble opinion. i posted back in the summer where i heard from the horses mouth (bryan singer)that he had originally had zod in the script for S.R. (presumably a small part to set up the sequel) but the script ran too long so he cut it. this leads me to believe he will probably be in the sequel. i agree that he (superman) needs new villains and i have a feeling that there will be another one. (doomsday???) spiderman 3 is gonna have 3 villains that i know of:sandman, venom and green goblin. but even if it's only zod and lex, i think bryan singer will pull it off. i know a few of you didn't like S.R. but i did. it ran a little long in a few scenes but overall i really liked it. the best one except for the original. and there's so much to work with. lex knows about jason, there's new krypton floating in space with the 7 remaining crystals somewhere on it, theres he question of supermans and lois's and richards love triangle, jasons burgeoning powers, etc. etc. i think singer is doing the same thing as donner did... and that is that he's making two (or 3??) parts of the same story. now everything is set up for an action packed sequel. that's how i look at it anyway.

Hope your right, because action is what it needs above all else. It's like you get one chance every few years and in this case it had been like two decades between movies and seems to me you'd really want to pour on the wow scenes. The kind you just don't catch on TV.
Not that it didn't have effects, but it seemed more like a day in the life of Soap Opera Superman instead of a big huge blockbuster action filled movie like Star Wars or Indiana Jones.
And a little less down in the dumps feeling is needed. He's Superman not Batman, old Bats smiled more in Batman Begins. If Superman is depressed all the time what hope do the rest of us mere mortals have. If flying around at super speed isn't enough to cheer you up, then what could?
Zod, Doomsday, now that's some villains I want to see Superman battle. I kind of hope they skip the dying at the end bit though. I feel like I already know that story forwards and backwards. Need a fresh take like Superman almost gets killed, but gets back up to win in the end like Rocky Balboa, and then Lois can go running to him like Adrian. __________________
Wow. It's been a long time since I've been on this board!
First off Tim, I think that Action Comics is taking a little longer due to the writing team and the artist. Adam Kubert is doing the penciling and the inks in addition to teaching at the Joe Kubert School in Dover, NJ.
I had an idea the other day for a sequel. How about Darkseid? Have him come to earth like he did in the cartoon. Also you could have him create Doomsday as his warrior champion to battle Superman. And as Darkseid retreats, he takes Jason just before the portal closes. Ah... kick ass battle scenes and a problem solved.

I think I mentioned that earlier, but yeah having darkseid come back would be a great sequel also, if anyone could check, the opening credits of the Superman Returns, it shows a bunch of strange planets, now I'm not sure but I though I remembered seeing Apokolipse, could anyone verify that? thx __________________

Whatever happens, whoever the villain(s) is/are, there needs to be numerous superpower showdowns. I mean there is more Superman vs Villian action is the biggest filler episode in the series Smallville than there was in Superman Returns. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, the whole saving the plane scene was phenomonal in the theatre, and so was the bank robbery. But the thing is he's Superman, the man of steel, the man of tomorrow, krypton's last son, etc, etc. I wanna see his powers pushed to their max against a worthy oppenent who also has phenomonal powers. I understand Lex Luthor is his arch nemisis, but I dont wanna see another movie that has Lex as the villian and he faces superman for a total of 5 minutes during the whole 2 hour movie. And in that 5 minute period of time, we get to see Supes get stab with a kryptonite shard, and then kicked by Luthor's stupid henchmen. I want an action blowout with an elaborate plot. Thats why I think the current arc of Action Comics is perfect for the big screen. __________________
