THIS FANFIC IS AN ATTEMPT TO CROSS ELEMENTS OF SMALLVILLE SEASON 5 WITH ANGEL POST-SEASON 5 AND VARIOUS ELEMENTS FROM BUFFY, AND AS SUCH, (ALL TOGETHER NOW) IT'S AU, SO ENJOY!.

                                                                ONE

Clark Kent was getting too close to the truth.
He'd found out where 'Professor Fine', as the Kryptonian entity called itself, had been hiding.
The trip to Honduras proved fruitful, with the native's carving of the Kryptonian spacecraft. The boy had taken Clark to the landing site.
The ship, not surprisingly, was gone, only burn marks remaining.
Clark's super hearing pinpointed a coming attack. Soldiers bearing some kind of tasers swarmed from the jungle. One of them scored a direct hit. Clark was literally in for the shock of his life.
The blast contained the equivalent of green K.
Clark slumped lifelessly to the jungle floor. Some of the soldiers picked him up and took him away...

Chloe Sullivan got herself in a hell of a sitch.
She'd gained access to a for-all-purposes secret file and saved it to a flash drive. Now they were after her.
The mandatory military in fatigues. And they were armed for the sole purpose of taking her out. What were the Linebackers doing here? If it was them.
She ran out of her dorm, trying to escape. "Clark, where are you?" she said under her breath. So much for 'somebody save me'...
If I can only make it out the door...
She did. Chloe ran down the street, but was slowed by the bullet that pierced her shoulder. Good thing : it wasn't broad daylight, and Lana wasn't there - no telling how many innocents would get caught in the crossfire.
Bad thing : she'd just run out of options - cornered like a trapped animal. The soldier boys raised their rifles. They were going to kill her for what she knew.
Then the soldiers found themselves training their guns on an entirely different target. The somewhat small-yet-tall female figure that in Chloe's words "looked like a glowy-eyed Goth dominatrix" uttered a litany of curses. Chloe could make out the phrase "trophies from your spines" despite the concentrated gunfire that, naturally, and only in either Smallville or Metropolis, proved ineffective against mostly anyone with super powers. What kind of meteor freak was this?
"Retreat!" one of the soldiers said. three of his men lay in crumpled heaps. "Alpha Raptor to Base!" he shouted in his com-device. " Mission aborted! Area compromised by H..." He didn't live to finish his report. His assassin turned to a frightened Chloe.
"You're wounded," the newcomer said in a low soft monotone. Her hands were passing over Chloe, much like someone reading one's aura. She looked at Chloe in a manner that seemed both out of curiosity and contempt. "You need medical attention." She scooped Chloe up in her arms and walked off. Chloe, even if she hadn't passed out from shock, wouldn't have argued at this point. For the first time in her life she would be a patient at Metropolis General Hospital. Unlike her trips to Smallville Medical Center, this time someone other than Clark Kent would be taking her...

                          Moments later

"She needs medical attention," the small girl said.
"Are you a friend of Miss Sullivan?" the receptionist asked.
"Actually, we've just met. I'm Winifred Burkle."
"I need you to tell me exactly what happened," the receptionist said.
If you only knew the truth, Illyria thought.
"Someone shot her,' 'Fred' said. "I found her and rushed her here."
Simple enough explanation, you pathetic human.
Turning back towards the ER she cast a worried glance.
In spite of just meeting Chloe, she hoped that the girl would be all right.

The DeSoto sped down the road, TSOL's 'Code Blue' blasting from the radio. Spike took it all in, singing along. Getting pissed was starting to be fun again. So was being on the lam. He'd managed to find his old car still intact. And he had a friend along for the ride. Someone he hadn't seen since '83. The creature looked like a cross between Wattie from the Exploited and a Stegosaurus.
"And you ain't seen him since.." Miquot Man began.
"Not seen the bloody git since the royal rumble," Spike muttered. "If they've got 'im then there's something goin' down. Again." Spike rolled his eyes in disgust.
"And they want Angel out of the way."
"They want all of us out of the way," Spike concluded. "Or somethin' else entirely. What I wanna know is how the bloody hell they managed to take over..Bloody hell!"
A 2005 red Ford Fusion had just cut them off.
"Oh, no you don't! Hang on!"
Spike stomped the gas. Miquot Man grinned. This was gonna be like old times...

Sometime later they'd pulled into Smallville in the center of town.
"The Talon," Spike muttered. "What kind of hole is this?"
"Best if you go find out," Miquot Man said. "You'll fit in, I won't."
"I'm gonna have a few words with that 'woman driver'. Won't take long."
Spike walked in. There she was, servin' the customers. Bloody Whitesnake playin' in the background. And muffins. Oh, this was gonna be fun.
Then he smelled them. His own kind. No, something similar. He could smell the difference.
And they sensed him. Three girls, somewhere around Harmony's age. Spike felt himself drawn to them, for all the obvious reasons.
"Hello, luv," he said. "Fancy meetin' you lot, here." Spike sat with them.
"Ooh, a British accent," said a girl named Courtney. "You're a long way from home."
"Tell me about it," Spike said.
"Can I get you something?" the tan woman asked.
"Yeah, four cups of pigs blood, don't forget the otter."
The three girls giggled.
"Look, we don't need any practical jokers here," Lois Lane said, " This is a coffee shop, in case you can't read."
"Yeah?" Spike said. "Well, there's also driving skills, which you obviously don't have. You cut me off back there." He stood up, staring into Lois' face.
"I'm warning you, I'm a third-degree black belt," Lois said.
"Yeah? Well, I'm a .."
"Wait a minute," one of the girls said. " You look like..'
"Billy Idol, I know. That ponce stole my look."
"No, someone else. Don't you teach classes at Central Kansas A&M?"
"I thought you looked familiar," Courtney said. "Professor Fine."
"I'm not some bloody brainiac," Spike said defensively.
"You're right about that." Lois said.
Then she noticed that Spike wasn't listening. Not to her, anyway. His eyes were fixed on someone's laptop.
"..was admitted with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. She remains unconscious but is in stable condition. Breaking news: a Metropolis University student was assaulted off campus by person or persons unknown."  The victim's photo was shown, along with live feed from the hospital showing the woman responsible for bringing her in.
"Chloe?"  Lois said.
"Fred?"  Spike said. "Bloody hell!" He left the Talon as quick as he could.
"Looks like our 'date' just stood us up," Courtney said.
"Get ready to ride to Fritz Lang Town," Spike said. "I just found Little Shiva." He revved up the DeSoto just as Lois ran up.
"Look, I don't know what this is abou..what is that?" She noticed Spike's passenger.
Spike ignored her and sped off.
"Oh, no you don't!" Lois echoed.

"Mr. Luthor, your guest has arrived."
Lex quickly emptied the small glass. "Show him in."
The dark, broody figure entered.
"So, what's so important that this had to be conducted at night?" Lex asked.
"It's simple," the guest replied. "I know all about Project 1138. My ..former employers have had access to your records and in turn, gave me access during my employment."
"So you want to get back at them for terminating you," Lex guessed.
"Nothing so mundane. I..happen to suffer from symptoms like the Saunders girl your company rescued. Only my symptoms have become, let's say, terminal." To prove his point he transformed into feeding form in front of Lex's eyes. Lex didn't flinch.
"And what do I get out of all this?" Lex Luthor asked.
"Me, as your guinea pig, for starters."
Lex slightly shook his head. "Somehow, I don't see you as the 'guinea pig' type."
"True, but you can't afford not to. LexCorp has done..."
"LuthorCorp," Lex corrected.
"I think it should be LexCorp. I mean, you've obviously done so much with this."
"You know," Lex said, "if you really sounded pretentious, I'd swear you were trying to pull something."
"I'm only telling it like it is."
"Here's the deal. You're going to accompany me to LuthorCorp's Fertilizer Plant , where you'll be taken to Level 33.1. I have the gut feeling that your former employers know about that, too."
"Let's get to work," Angel said, meeting Lex's steely look with one of his own.
