"Impressive."
Angel was taking in his 'hotel accommodations'. Lex Luthor and one of his bodyguards
was in the process of giving him the 'grand tour'.
"I'm glad you think so," Lex said. "This R&D facility has accomplished quite a number of successes. Enough, I imagine, to even compete with your 'former employers'. And that's what's bothering me, Angel. I know you went from being the CEO of an exceptionally powerful L.A. law firm to, say, a fugitive. What makes you think I'll help you?"
"If you really know so much, and especially about me, then you'll know that I've been on the level about everything," Angel said. " If I didn't have confidence in LuthorCorp's scientific advances.."
"To solve a problem rooted in the preternatural," Lex said. "An interesting proposition."
Angel peered through a digital microscope. "Whose blood is this?"
"One of what we call 'meteor freaks'. I'm sure you're familiar with the term, since you know so much about 1138."
Lex's cell phone suddenly rang.
"Yes? Hello, Mrs...Yes, we've received the blood sample. One of my business partners was just..don't worry. He knows nothing to compromise anything."
"Ok," Maggie Sawyer said. "I need you," she said to 'Fred', "to tell me what happened. How you just happened to be on campus when you're not even registered."
"I'm in trouble, aren't I?" Illyria channeled her best Fred yet.
"That depends on your answers," Maggie said. "You said you just happened to be in the area when..'
"Wait a minute," Spike said impatiently. "What about my car?"
"This is more important that your car," Maggie said agitatedly. "Four people have been murdered, their killer is on the loose, a student has been shot, and I'm not about to let A&M turn into another bloodbath, so your precious car will have to wait."
"Captain," said an approaching Lois. "Chloe wants to see you."
"Don't go anywhere," Maggie said to Spike and Fred.
"Like I could, you moron ," Spike muttered. Turning to Lois he said "How's your cuz?"
"She's fine, thanks for asking. You didn't answer my question: who or what was that with you?"
"A friend with a bad skin complexion. Now he's missing and my car's been trashed."
"Bad skin, huh?" Then she noticed Spike's 'car'.
"Meteor freak must've done this."
"I don't care if it was the bloody Boy Scouts," Spike said. "Meteor freak?"
Lois gave the Cliff Notes on Smallville's exclusive phenomena.
"Oh, that's nothing compared to.." Spike was hushed by an elbow from 'Fred'.
"Spike, I think we need to find a place to stay," the thin girl said. "In case that police captain needs to talk with us again."
God, Illyria, you sound corny, Spike mused. You should do this more often.
"I know just the place," Lois said. "In Smallville."
"Back at the bloody coffee shop?"
"There's an apartment upstairs - mine - and you're welcome to stay until the police conclude their investigations," Lois said, unlocking the door. "It's the least I can do since you saved Chloe's life..."
Lois suddenly found herself being assaulted. Three girls, all familiar, and a pair of fangs pierced Lois' neck.
Courtney said "We've waited all night for you." She wasn't talking to Lois or the other girl.
"Wait on this," a transformed Illyria said. She landed a good punch to one of the girl's midsection and sent her flying into a wall.
"You filthy harlots!" Spike yelled. He 'suited up' and joined the fracas. Not strangely Lois believed what she was witnessing.
These human vampires were quite a different lot. Spike still reached for a concealed stake and was about to put it to good use.
"No!" Illyria restrained him. Spike punched her and she returned the favor. Confused, the girls made a hasty retreat.
"They're infected," Illyria said. "Not like you or Angel. They can't die that way."
"Thanks for noticing," Spike said, rubbing his bruised jaw. He reached down and felt Lois' pulse.
"She's slippin'. Put on your Fred suit 'cause we're goin' back to Metropolis."
Spike took the keys from the still open door and together with Illyria helped Lois into her car.
"Smallville....Medical," Lois muttered.
"A local hospital," Lyri said.
"Bully for her. Let's get her there..."
