TV Guide News Report Exclusive: Supergirl Soars Into Smallville
Tom Welling in Smallville by Michael Courtney/The CWLook, up in the sky: It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s Supergirl?! When Smallville returns for its seventh season this fall it will be revealed that Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is not the only member of his family to survive the destruction of the planet Krypton. His cousin Kara “was sent to Earth in a ship that arrived at the same time as baby Kal-El’s,” reveals executive producer Al Gough, referring to Clark by his Kryptonian name. “But there was a problem and she’s been in suspended animation for the last 16 years. We’ll find out in the season premiere that the big dam break in last season’s finale is the reason she’s finally awoken.”
Gough says this latest visitor from the DC Comics universe “will help Clark get in touch with his Kryptonian roots. With his [adopted] father dead and his [adopted] mother moved to Washington [to become a U.S. Senator], and Lana blown up, suddenly there’s some family in his life.”
Like her cousin, Kara will have enhanced physical abilities generated by Earth’s yellow sun. “She has all of Clark’s powers and a couple he doesn’t have yet,” Gough teases. “She can fly. And her response when Clark asks why is ‘obviously girls mature faster than boys.’”
Kara, a teenager when Krypton exploded, was sent to Earth by her father, Zor-El (Kal-El’s uncle), to look after her younger cousin. But while in suspended animation she didn’t age and now it’s Clark who must be the mentor. “She becomes enamored with our culture: clothes and iPods and stuff,” Gough says. “We’ll have a lot of fun as she gets acclimated.”
Kara makes her debut in the season premiere of the CW drama and will appear in about half of this season’s episodes. A casting notice is set to go out shortly, and producers hope to unveil their new addition at July’s Comic-Con International in San Diego. –Rich Sands
SUPERGIRL FLIES INTO "SMALLVILLE" DC COMICS' SUPERHEROINE JOINS THE CAST
BURBANK, CA (June 11, 2007) - Look, up in the sky: it's a bird, it's a plane! It's...Supergirl! This fall, Supergirl will be joining the lineup of burgeoning superheroes and villains in SMALLVILLE. Supergirl is the latest DC Comics character to join the series that has previously welcomed Martian Manhunter, The Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Brainiac. Casting for the Supergirl role is currently underway. SMALLVILLE airs on Thursdays at 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
On SMALLVILLE, the seventh season premiere kicks off with the arrival of Supergirl, whose name is Kara, as Clark's (Tom Welling) 19-year-old cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother. Kara possesses all of Clark's powers and one he doesn't yet have ?? she can fly! Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak that puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her onto Lex's (Michael Rosenbaum) radar. In addition, she takes a romantic interest in Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore).
"One of the joys of creating SMALLVILLE has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters," said SMALLVILLE executive producer Al Gough. "Miles and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season."
Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spiderman 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. Gough and Millar serve as executive producers, along with Ken Horton, Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. I'm serious, I make a point of never reading the Spoiler thread, yet when I read this it upsets me! Please Please Please keep it in the spoiler thread.
Now...that I got that off my chest. Clark needs to fly this is getting just retarted! Seriously I mean the way it's going Clark is going to be getting a grey beard before he can fly!!! Maybe this will be the season Clark finds his wings!!! If not I will shake my head, and may even loose interest in the show. The show is stuck in this loop of Clark loves lana, lana loves clark, chloe gets jealous...ooops Clark kills a bad guy, Clark gets sad, lana's dating someone else, clark gets over it, Lana misses clark, ooops Someone dies, Cool the Justice league starts, but not seen for months, then Chloe looks at clark...clark tells chloe, I need to save lana from lex, Lana tells clark, I love you and need to protect you, Chloe says leave lana alone she old enough to make her own mind up, but really she only wants clark for herself, oops Lionel almost dies and now he's a good guy again...Clark still can't fly, and now season seven starts!!!! Common give us some action, get Clark flying, Get the Justice leaque back, who cares if Lana and Clark don't get together cuz we all know he ends up loving Lois. Give Chloe a cool Boyfriend within the Justice League, Give Lex a Cool army, throw in some twists and curve balls, but lets get the story on the road!!! GEEEZZZZE!!!! __________________

Quote: I can't believe Supergirl will be able to fly before Clark. That's just wrong.
Well girls to chemically mature faster then boys so that would make sense. The only thing blocking this from working was that she was supposedly in "suspended animation" and clark is older. __________________

Here's somethings no one got.
Supergirl in Smallville: The Casting Breakdown!
Curious what they're looking for when casting Supergirl for Season Seven of Smallville?
"SUPERGIRL" (Kara) - 19 years old, Caucasian, blonds preferred, or willing to dye hair blond. Beautiful, smart and funny. She is Clark's cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother. Kara possesses all of Clark's power and one he doesn't yet have - she can FLY! Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak which puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her into Lex's radar. This is a 7/13 Series Regular role.
Quote:
Helen in Tampa, Florida: Smallville! Smallville! Smallville!
Aye Aye, Captain! I've just been told that The Daily Planet is getting a new editor in chief named Greg. We'll be seeing quite a bit of him early in the season, and surprise, surprise, he's going to be the sexy, smart type.
Jeff from Concord, California: Any news on the seventh season of Smallville?
It has just been announced that Kara, aka Supergirl, will be joining the cast for the seventh season. Kara, who is Clark's cousin, will have all of Clark's powers and will be able to fly. Kara will also be a potential love interest for Jimmy Olsen.
ALFRED GOUGH SPEAKS ABOUT SUPERGIRL ON 'SMALLVILLE' - SEASON 7
LOCATION: Smallville
THE SKINNY: When iF got the word that Supergirl is going to be a part of Season Seven of SMALLVILLE, we couldn’t wait to find out more from co-creator and executive producer Alfred Gough.
Today he gave us a glimpse into what having Supergirl on the CW series will mean and that also includes the revelation of an appearance by the 1984 Supergirl herself – Helen Slater.
In the Seventh Season premiere, Supergirl (whose name is Kara) will arrive. She’s Clark Kent’s 19-year old cousin and was born on Krypton. She is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother and she possesses all of Clark’s powers and one he doesn’t have yet – the ability to fly. She’s also a bit rebellious and that puts her at odds with Clark and on the radar of Lex (Michael Rosenbaum). Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) will also be a romantic interest.
Read below for iF Magazine’s exclusive chat with Gough about what the Seventh Season will bring.
iF MAGAZINE: The original SUPERGIRL movie was derided by fans and is still ripped apart to this day. What do you think the key is to making the character work within the SMALLVILLE universe without carrying over the movie stigma?
ALFRED GOUGH: I think that the film was so long ago, and so forgettable, that most people have done just that. Our interest in Supergirl stems from her recent resurgence in comics especially the work done by our old pal Jeph Loeb.
iF: With Clark it's a no flight, no tights rule. For Supergirl, she's going to fly, but are you giving here the "no tights" rule too?
GOUGH: Kara will have flights, but no tights
iF: Will Supergirl be learning her powers like Clark did during the season or will she be more advanced when we meet her than Clark and serve as sort of a mirror to Clark's evolution?
GOUGH: Kara will be more advanced, although there will be powers that Clark teaches her about and vice versa -- perhaps Clark will even attempt "flying lessons."
iF: Will we be seeing a Helen Slater cameo by any chance?
GOUGH: Our plan is to have Helen on the show sometime this season, although when, how and who she would play are still up in the air.
iF: Since Jeannot Szwarc helmed the original SUPERGIRL movie and has directed many SMALLVILLE episodes, any plans for having him direct the first episode of Supergirl's appearance?
GOUGH: Jeannot, unfortunately, was all booked up on other shows by the time we got the official Season 7 pick-up, so he won't be back this season.
iF: How will Bizarro fit into all of this and will the character have a season-long arc?
GOUGH: You are just gonna have to wait and see about Bizarro like everybody else, but I'll tell you one thing, he won't be completely vanquished in the season opener like Zod was.
Dude, that should have gone under the spoilers thread!! __________________

Aside from the fact that you have WAY too much free time on your hands...
If I ever wanted that to happen I'd find a prostitute.

Oh....and I hardly have any free time but to spend an hour doodling on the computer at night sorta blocks out the stress of running my business...sometimes it's online poker, sometimes it's going for a rollerblade, and most of the time it's hitting the gym for a work out....Tonight you got a gift card!!!
I thought you'ld like it!!! bahahahahaa.

Did Jimmy and Chloe break off? or are they having a long distance relationship? Do you guys expect a cat fight between Chloe and Kara? __________________

Nope! If Chloe has any sense (and I think she does ) she will have gotten over her infatuation with Jimmy. __________________

Only one thing though Scaper sometimes it's good to put news items under their own topic. It gets into search engines better that way. I guess perhaps we should always label spoilers maybe that'd help the situation. __________________

Casting for her should begin, I guess soon since they need to start filming the next seaso in hte near future.
And I nominate my sister to play her and hope someone working on the show sees this; here are some pictures I culled from her site:
I also tried to promote her for Wonder Woman, and everyone agreed with me on her for it. I don't expect that here, but .. hey.
she's done some commercials, a few magazines (like Glamour and Maxum) and a national infomercial. Also, this exercise machine thing up at a store chain, where she looks particularly unconfortable. I have yet to tease her about that, but that time will come. ;-)
The bars are removing her site name since I don't want her harrassed. Only I may harrass her; it's what brothers are for.

Hardly anyone I've ever seen would look somewhat good as Wonder Woman aside from Lynda Carter, but I think your sister might be able to pull it off.
btw, thanks for changing the subject, I owe ya. __________________
