I thought with a lot of people bagging Brandon in the role why not see who else could have played the role. Now the rules are people that Tom Welling can not be anyones choice because he doesn't want the part and be serious in your choices. So to buggs0268, SCLJ, smallville21 let's see who you lot can come up with and stick to the rules, please. Oh and another thing don't put down that you are waiting for Tom to change his mind because it doesn't count either.

personally, I would have liked to either see 3 different people:
Jim Caviezel, because to me he really looks the part
Henry Cavill, he has that comic book Superman look to him
Matthew Bomer, a previous manip of him in the Donner suit made me believe he was Superman

kakarot069, show me some pictures of the other men so we can compare them to Brandon because I know who Jim Caviezel is but I have no idea who Henry Cavill or Matthew Bomer are. Well yes he does Tim but as we have all acknowledged he isn't actually tall enough for the big screen superman with the fact that he is only just under 6'1". Do you have any other possibilities?

I don't think height really matters as much. Hollywood can take a short guy and make him look tall if need be. __________________

Yes Tim hollywood can make a short guy look tall enough but the thing is with Dean being the height that he is, about 6'1", if you put him in shoes with two inch lifts then he only gets to 6'3" where as if you put Brandon in those same type of shoes he is 6'4 1/2" which is the same height that Chris was. Well fair enough, kakarot069, both Henry and Matt definetly look the part. It also says on the superman homepage that they approached Ryan Kwanten, Brendan Fraser, Jerry O'Connell, Josh Hartnett, Paul Walker and Tom Welling for the role. Now it doesn't say why Ryan, Brendan or Jerry didn't really want the role but with the Josh and Paul it was because of who the director was Brett Rattner and when he got "moved on" from the project they weren't going to do it. Paul is good friends with Richard Donner and asked him if he should take on the role but decided to turn it down. Now I know that Ryan is not that tall so I figuired he wouldn't do it but everyone else looks the part, including Brandon, which is what they all have in common. I see that a lot of them turned it down when Rattner got replaced by Singer so that means, I am guessing, that Routh probably met Singer for the first time when the whole thing, finally, got the green light.

I didn't think Routh looked the part, but upon looking at the fan-altered suit with the bigger 'S', and the higher beltline, I think Routh looked okay for the part. The current costume looks like a stripper outfit, with the extremely low waistline and the very small 'S' ... it accentuates the abs section, making him look much slimmer and longer torsoed. The bigger 'S' and the higher beltline shortens the look of the abs, and makes the visual focus on the chest, and makes him look much bigger.
I would've liked this new Superman to be at least 6'5 or 6'6, as most actors and actresses are about 6', and I'd like Superman physically stand out over the mortals, but aside from this, just change the suit and Routh would probably carry it well.

I watched the movie Doom the other night at the cinema and I was wondering what the name of the actor who plays the major male supporting actor to The Rock is because I think that he could have made a good superman aswell. The guy who fights The Rock in the ending scenes, I am after his name.

It must be Karl Urban because he played the brother of the female scientist who needed all the help. Do you know anything about him?, like his stats; i.e. height, weight and acting background.

superjon, I just watched Doom last night. Not much of a story, but loads of fun. The second I saw the John Grimm (Reaper) actor, I thought to myself, they're making him look like the video game. Cool.

Here's what I found on Karl Urban, superjon -
Date of birth (location)
7 June 1972
Wellington, New Zealand
imdb.com says
Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Karl Urban now lives in Auckland. Born on June 7, 1972, he is the son of a leather goods manufacturer (who had hoped hoped that Karl would follow in his footsteps). His first acting role was when he was 8 -- he had a line on a television show. However, he did not act again until after high school. He was offered a role in the NZ drama "Shortland Street" (1992), as he was preparing to attend Victoria University. After appearing on the show for the 1993-1994 season he attended the university for one year, then left to pursue his acting career. Over the next few years, he landed several theater roles in the Wellington area. Eventually, he moved to Auckland where a number of guest roles in NZ television followed. One of his first roles was that of a heroin addict in the drama "Shark In the Park" (1989). He was in a movie as well, entitled Once in Chunuck Bay (AKA Chunuk Bair (1992)). Other television roles followed, including a guest starring role in the series "White Fang" (1993). Karl's biggest role yet is Éomer in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. __________________

Snyderman, Michael Clarke Duncan isn't he the big black man out of The Green Mile and that means he probably won't work as superman because of his race, no offence and didn't they have Shaq playing Steel. Thanks Tim, I wonder if Karl is any relation to Keith Urban the country and western singer. I mean he looks like a pretty big boy because when he was standing face to face with The Rock he looked to be about the same height but maybe it was just the camera angle.

OK people if they would have made the new superman movie five years ago then one of the celebrities on the current Australian version of Dancing with the Stars would probably have made a good choice for the role, his name is Tom Williams. If anyone wants to have a look and see then go to either seven.com.au or newidea.com.au. Now I know that he might not be up to some of the high standards of other people on this board but he stands 6'4" and with about 25 lbs of solid muscle he would have done a good job plus look at the name Tom W. The only thing about him doing the job now is the fact that he 34 and unless he gets some work done he only has a couple of years before the wrinkles start appearing which means he has an expiration date for the role. Afterall superman has to look eternally young, I'd say mid to late 20's.

To be honest i thought that Ashton kutcher might look the role and im sure he could rise up to the challenge of acting the part. Although i dont think it would be hard for anyone to make a better Superman than Brandon Routh, i have to admit when you see Routh flying in the classic pose that Reeve made famous, head tilted back eyes looking upish, he really does look like superman.

Well kal, they did ask Ashton if he wanted play the aprt but he turned it down and Freddy would have needed 12 months to get to the size of superman besides I am wondering how tall he is.

Will Ferrell as superman now that would be funny to watch that movie. Well sorry Pinoyman, but Orlando Bloom wouldn't be tall enough to play the part because I think he is only about 6' and as I have mentioned already superman is supposed to be 6'3".

I'm a Jim Carrey fan myself. I did think Ferrell did a great job on Elf, but Carrey should have been the star on Bewitched. The guy he played on Liar Liar sort of reminded me of Darin.
Carrey was a terrible Riddler though wasn't he? __________________

yeah i agree with you on the whole bewitched thing. but carrey wasnt all that bad as the riddler, i actually thought he fit the role pretty well. although i would have liked to see him play more sinister genius and less comical madman, because thats the joker's role

For the life of me I can't think of his name--Elaine's boyfriend on Seinfeld--the face painter. Good size, voice, looks the part.
