Let's start out with the bad first and get it out of the way. I always like to end on a positive note when I can.

I didn't like that extra line in Superman's face. It was annoying, but after a while I did begin to overlook it. I hope the next movie they take that out.

I'm also annoyed with changing actors from the JLU and Superman the Animated Series. I think I like it a little better when characters are more stable. Change is good occassionally, but you know I think I can relate more to characters when they are played by the same actors or voiced as the case may be.

Jonathan Kent is dead, and Perry White is bald. I'm pretty sure Perry has hair in Superman the Animated Series. I think this was an attempt to copy the Superman Returns movie.

On the neutral side, the couple of mild expletives didn't really do much for the characterization or the intensity of the film.

On the positive side I think all the actors did a good job. Adam Baldwin made a pretty good Superman, but I still miss Tim Daly from Superman the Animated Series as the voice of Superman.

James Marsters made a good Lex Luthor, but he was totally different from the JLU more tough guy Lex. He was drawn more skinny too almost like they were trying to make him look like Marsters. This Lex was more sinister than what we are used to lately, a little more brutal. Like I said he did a good job, but I would have preferred keeping Highlander's Clancy Brown from the JLU and Superman the Animated Series, or going with Michael Rosenbaum which would have really rocked.

The Doomsday fight was cool, just like you'd imagine, but the ending where Superman comes back to life to face..I'm not telling...is better than the beginning. It's even more dramatic. A couple of times they were able to bring on some intense emotion. Superman bleeds for crying out loud. Now that's intense.

Extras: I honestly haven't finished watching all of them yet, but the behind the scenes take on how DC came to kill Superman was very interesting. I liked it almost as much as the movie, but in a different way of course. The creative staff talks about how the Death of Superman created lines at comic shops, and brought Superman to the top of the comic heap. Some of the DC creators were very emotional about the story. You could tell they really got into their work. They also bring up the fact that Superman was at first going to be wedded, but the guys from Lois and Clark the TV series wanted them to wait for them to marry off Superman and Lois. This caused the DC people to have to scrap the wedding plans and led to the eventual death of Superman.

If you are a Superman fan it's worth the price. You'll enjoy the movie and the features. Now if you took this movie and turned it into a live action movie, it would top out there with Spider-man's box office. I don't know if they could afford that much for special effects, but they would definitely make up for it in the box office.

One last wish, though. I would have really loved to see the Justice League involved in the story the way they were in the original story. That would have been awesome!

I think I got more out of the extras that talked with the comic book staff that the film itself.  It deviated from what happened in the comics (which it had to in order to fit the time allowance).  The story somewhat contradicted itself, suggesting that although Superman and Lois were together she did not know he was Clark.  Yet, after he was killed by Doomsday she knew to seek out Martha, and told her she knew Clark's secret.  Yet, after Superman comes back from the dead, the make it appear she does not know Clark is Superman until they have Clark put his glasses on.  Strange.

Other than that, the lines were annoying on Superman's face and it is interesting to note that the lines are NOT there on the cover art nor the insert of the DVD case.  Jimmy was also played a great deal differently here, which was an interesting change of pace, though they did not really explain why we came back to help Lois.

Overall, considering the price, I'd say it's worth the money for the extras if you were heavily vested in the story back when the comics having Superman die were released.  As far as the film goes, I have seen better.

Ok, now I’ve seen it.  These will be SPOILERS so don't read if you haven't seen it.

The Bad: Where the hell did the Cyborg, Superboy, The Man of Steel, and the Last Son of Krypton go?  I didn’t see them at all in the movie!  That's the actual story of Superman Vs. Doomsday!  Lex creates a Superman clone. Wow, THAT'S original.  They completely massacred the entire story; at least Superman Returns was true to the comics.  After thinking about it for a few seconds I now know why they called it "Superman Doomsday" instead of "The Story of Superman Vs. Doomsday".

The Good: I liked the way they did Toy Man in this one; he was more of a "Joker" for Supes.  Also, I liked the music, very Superman-ish.  Finally, the best thing about the movie was the fight scenes, simply amazing for the show.

Total score: 6/10 - If it actually followed the story, it would have gotten a 9.

I think the biggest problem with following the whole story was time. Just not possible to do justice to the whole story in 75 minutes. Maybe they should have made it into a mini TV series for DVD, and created like 6 or 7 episodes. That would have rocked.

It would've been better that's for sure.
