I agree, and Supergirl the movie was ok. Not the best movie ever, but it's kind of fun to watch. There are a few things that are annoying in it. __________________

The Original Supergirl Previews Her Smallville Role
Quote:
On the heels of Dean Cain's guest spot last month, another actor with ties to the Man of Steel mythos lands in Smallville (8 pm/ET, CW) tonight when 1984's big-screen Supergirl, Helen Slater, begins a two-episode arc as Clark's Kryptonian mom, Lara.
"You know how people love this kind of stuff," enthuses Slater, adding that we first meet a pregnant Lara in Superlore-tweaking flashbacks set on her doomed home planet. "After learning that Krypton is going to be destroyed, I go through a portal to Smallville to see where my baby will be raised... because [her husband] Jor-El has already been to Earth and picked the Kents to be Clark's family."
In a passing-of-the-torch touch, Supermom makes the trip with her niece Kara, better known now, of course, as Supergirl. And it's a good thing, too, because what the two ladies learn in the past may be Clark's only hope for a future after someone else from his bloodline shows up in what Slater describes as an "intense, highly stylized episode" next week. But before then, we had to ask Slater a few more questions about her ties to the superhero world and what she thought of her own time in the tights.
TVGuide.com: This is a big deal for Superman fans.
Slater: I know! This is very fun. I went to Metropolis in Illinois this year — you know how they do that Superman festival every year? And there were so many Smallville fans who were saying to me, just before I knew I was doing this, "Is there any way you might ever be on Smallville?" I guess one of the actresses was supposed to be there — I think it was Erica [Durance, who plays Lois], but she had something come up — so Smallville was on everybody's mind. When I booked this, a friend of mine said, "You're going back to your roots!"
TVGuide.com: What do you think of Supergirl now? I mean, that was your first big role, right?
Slater: It was. You know, I was 18 years old when I got the part. I had freshly graduated from a performing-arts high school, and for me, it was just such an incredible experience to go live in England for a year and be a part of filmmaking... and I, of course, had no idea what that was about.
TVGuide.com: That must have been insane!
Slater: The whole thing was pretty astonishing. [Laughs] I am very, very grateful for that experience. Even though I know the film wasn't as well received and there are things with the storyline that I think could have been different... I don't know. [Laughs] It's interesting. I met a bunch of comic-book writers at the Metropolis convention and there was such an interesting discussion about the story of Supergirl and trying to get it right. It can be a challenge, because you don't want it to be the same as the Superman story.
TVGuide.com: In retrospect, it does have a certain level of camp appeal.
Slater: Right, but they could have done much more! [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: How did Smallville approach you with this role?
Slater: All I knew is that I got a call asking if I would be interested in playing — I forget how they put it — either Supergirl's aunt or Superman's mother. One way or the other, I was definitely interested. I think the show is fantastic. It's shot so beautifully and the actors are wonderful.
TVGuide.com: What is with this character?
Slater: It's really interesting. It's such a great storyline they've come up with. My husband, Jor-El, and his brother Zor-El are in a rivalry for me. And I end up marrying Jor-El.... We're Kal-El's parents. At the time that I get pregnant — this is the Smallville invention, although I think there is a pretty rigorous clearance process with DC — [we learn of Krypton's fate]. So when I'm seen, it's me visiting the Kent farm and the house to see where Clark will grow up, and Kara [Laura Vandervoort] is there with me.
TVGuide.com: Will we see Annette O'Toole or John Schneider?
Slater: No, it's just me and Kara in this flashback. Then you find out that the evil brother Zor-El is this mad scientist who (Spoiler alert) has figured out how to replicate my DNA in this crystal.
TVGuide.com: How many episodes is this?
Slater: It's only two, but I know! It's like mini-movies!
TVGuide.com: Fans are going to eat this up.
Slater: I think it's very fun. I didn't know much about the Smallville history, but now that they're seven seasons in, it must be so much fun for them to do stuff like this.
What an awesome episode!! The effects where very well done!!! That was a nice touch having Clark get to find the picture of Lara. __________________

Can you tell me please if Lionel KILLED the Gov. man in the D.C. Lab when he burst in? Not clear to me.

AWESOME EPISODE--especially the beginning, there were so many special effects I thought it was the season finale.
No, Lionel shot a tranquilizer dart at him, the same he shot Lex with, that why he bent down to check his pulse. Besides Clark would've bashed (not literally) Lionel later about it if he had. __________________

That was a good episode. Man Clark is so blind... giving all his secrets to the Deviless!
Tom's put on weight too he needs to trim up a bit. Not like I'm one to talk hehehe!!! hahaha Funny thing is Allison has really gotten skinny!
Anyways good episode tonight. __________________

I loved that episode. Supergirl almost getting hit by a plane, the krypton scene, the flashback, Helen Slater, all in one episode.
That was a lot of fun. I guess the time space portal they mentioned explains how Jor-El was on earth as a young man in the 1960's, but it raises another question. Why didn't they use it to send Clark to Earth instead of a space ship? Was it unavailable? Was it destroyed? __________________

From the way it was talked about in the story, they used one of the few remaining working portals to make this trip to Kansas. I would presume with the war going on (and etc.) that the portals were damaged or destroyed - thus why Zor-El was sending Kara away in a ship in the first flashback we saw. __________________

Ah ha!DH That does seem good reasoning about the "portal"--I'll buy that.
Also did anyone notice Lionel is bone thin? I was wondering if he is sick or something. Clark has the kind of build that will go to fat as he ages.(Watch those carbs dude!) and Allison looks like she is on the same diet AS Lionel, along with depressingly skinny Lana.Uggh! Those looking like they need a good meal.( or just pass the doughnuts)
The only ones at perfect weight are Kara, Lex and also Jimmy They are looking healthy and strong too. Drinkin' milk? (Did you notice those 3 have
Well that sums up the Smallville Health & Diet Report.
For me, the show was O.K.--I still wish it was the Smallville I cut my teeth on, not this TOTAL,
NO RELIEF gloom and doom saga. Oh well..

I don't think Tom is getting fat. Maybe he's trying to bulk up. Weight lifters have to gain a little bit before they can cut up. Or maybe he is trying to ensure he never has to wear the super suit. __________________

About Tom gaining weight or not. I think heredity must play a part. My mom and dad are the right weight, no pounds gained--all my brothers (6) are looking good, I am the right weight (same age as Tom I think)-- Ha ha. Some maybe Tom's parents got heavier older ?

Good question, I've lost 20 pounds, but have been stuck at my current weight for several months now - I cannot seem to loose anymore - ugh!! I guess I need to schedule an appointment with a personal trainer to figure out what I need to do different. __________________

I raise early and run a couple times around the block. I am active all day. Never sleep in, never sit down. I only watch 3 TV shows, Smallville, Ghost Hunters, and Reaper. So I'm not a "potato" I do box about 3 times a week (not serious fighting, just gym stuff with a few friends) I think when you hit 30, activity is real important and a lot of guys are sitting in office cubicles . I did notate a jowl on Clark, and a slight gain and I'll bet if we saw his dad at the same age we would see the same thing. I don't know how to double-cross that DNA. I am just lucky my parents are kinda long and lean.

Hey David--For the "man of steel" look, cheaper than a personal trainer, why not a Bowflex, about $25 a month? Just a thought, if you have the room. I never had one but I have seen results of a friend who has had one about 3 mos.

Yeah but the thing about a bowflex? It all depends on the user.
Little story, you can read it or skip down to the moral:
I'm a senior in high school, 135 lbs, and 5'9" with an athletic/muscular build. I run, weight lift, and practice my Martial arts. This adds up to about 20 hours a week training my body. I eat 4 meals a day. Breakfest-sometime between 6 and 9 am, early Lunch-sometime between 10-12 am/pm, late lunch-sometime between 3-4 pm, and dinner-sometime around 6-7 pm. These aren't just snacks but full fledged meals. I don't drink soda, or have tons of candy, I replace it with Tea and water. I acknowledge that part of it is hormones, but seeing as I'm nearing the end of my growth spurt and haven't lost the appetite or anything, I believe it's also part of something else. (I'm like a modern day Flash ). If I didn't do all the physical activity I do, then I'd certainly be fat. The reason I do these things are for a few reasons. 1, I've seen the results of being lazy and I was completely opposed to it, and 2, I watched a lot of superhero cartoons when i was younger.
The point of this and how it effects all of you can be summed up in a quote from my weight lifting instructor, "In order to loose weight, burn more food then you eat." Cut down on big meals, snacks and increase physical activity time. All those pills that say you can loose weight? around 10% of them work and in the 10%, it'll only work on certain people. The only thing that isn't positive in looseing weight is heredity. If being a little plump is in your genes, there's not much you can do aboutit. Fortunately, some people have overcome by strongly enforcing the less food more work idea, but it's a small percentage.
So yeah, that's my input. __________________

Kara named him Kal-El? Interesting...
Jor-El had his own BrainIAC? Makes sense....
Clark's dad and uncle were drawn straight out of a Shakespeare play(Hamlet comes to mind)...
Lana isn't the real thing and I don't think it's one of Lex's clones either....
Clark giving Lana his birth mom's DNA? what the.....??? __________________

Along with the rest of you---For the record , 6' 174 weight& stays steady if I eat right.
Agree with Areo- it's all a ratio--input calorie, output energy. I have to be careful to remember to eat or I start losing because of high energy lifestyle. We were very poor , growing up my brothers and I didn't really have enough food, we HAD to forget to eat "on purpose". Grew up with that in mind. I still forget!

I'm a big exercise nut, but I probably only get about 5-10 hours in a week. Mostly weightlifting except for when I can get into a good bball game. For cardio lately I have to do the dreaded running since b ball games are scarce lately. I hate to run. __________________

Well, they do not have a "Bowflex" but the fitness center here at the apartment complex has a myriad of exercise machines I use. Everything from treadmills, exercise bikes, butterfly machines, stair steppers, etc. Also, I make a point to wear a sauna suit everytime I go to the fitness center. Plus I go out for a 5 mile walk/run around the neighborhood when the weather is nice. I'll also use a couple of dumb bells while watching TV. As far as meals, I either have a bowl of cereal or a protein shake for breakfast and then a ham sandwich with apple sauce or a salad for supper. Aero, I too have cut out soda and only drink tea or water.
Quote: Jor-El had his own BrainIAC? Makes sense....
I took it that the Brianiac Jor-El was using was the same one that Clark has fought several times now. __________________
