Lex Luthor appears since the beginning of Superman Returns to be devoted to know every little secret Superman may have to use it against him. Although he stole kryptonite to try to destroy Superman using the "conventional kryptonite method" seen in other movies and comic books,Lex Lutors was acting like if he knew something else. I believe Lex Luthor mind was wondering around the possibility of the existence of a deeper relationship between Superman and Lois Lane. In Superman II, Lois Lane was openly expresing her strong affection for Superman. She was suffering to such an extend that it will be impossible to describe her feelings for Superman as an obsession or a frienship. Lex Luthor was a witness of the entire situation. I believe that Lex Luthor has been analyzing Superman and finally saw something that he truly liked, Superman is some sort of a boy that pretends to be a man because he likes to use his super powers to help others in the same way a kid in our planet will do. This represents a weakness in Superman personality that Lex Luthor will obviously aim. Superman has to be a very sensitive person. Notice the face of a "boy in absolute rage" that Superman developed once he saw that the "crystals" were stolen from his secret hideout. Also, the way that he was handling his conversations with Lois Lane and her new love interest, Richard White. Superman was very ridiculous when he flew with Lois Lane and as she tried to address him in relation to his five years departure. I believe the scene was written with the purpose of delivering a message that "Superman the hero" did not know how to say goodbye because he is indeed very immature (the extraterrestial kind) to sustain any relationship with a woman. I believe that Brandon Routh was not as good as he needed to be to deliver the message. He was acting too cold for me to believe that he was stressed out by Lois Lane new relationship, including being a mother. Christopher Reeve would have delivered a five stars type of acting. I believe that once Lex Luthor learned (confirmed) that Lois Lane's kid was Superman's son he simply needed to humilliate Superman to finish destroying him. Go ahead and fly Superman! were the last words of Luthor to an already destroyed Superman. This time Brandon Routh acted more convincing, like if he could have fight back but was too depress to do it because the kryptonite augmented his personal suffering, making him more human. I think Kevin Spacy did a wonderful job interpreting Lex Luthor. I personally thought Luthor may had some feelings of sympathy for Superman but it was clear that he did not. I believe "Kitty" interpreted by actress Parker Posey represents those doubts that the producers were expecting the public to have. I personally felt she was some sort of a symbolic mirror. I hope never be any "Kitty"... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ SKY CAPTAIN ![]() |
