Anne Thompson's Thompson on Hollywood blog at Variety puts the spotlight on Christopher Nolan and 'The Dark Knight' but also has some interesting tidbits about other DC Comics films. Thompson hears that the prospect of director Bryan Singer returning to film another 'Superman' movie is "highly unlikely", with Singer transitioning from his current film 'Valkyrie' to 'The Mayor of Castro Street'. Bad news for Justice League movie too. Quote: Furthermore, in spite of protests to the contrary by director George Miller, Thompson says that 'Justice League' has, in fact, been waylaid by the WGA writers strike. Filming will not commence until after the strike has been resolved. And, of course, Warner Bros. is crossing their fingers for Nolan to return for 'Batman 3'. __________________ |

Wow this is big news.
Quote:
Not long after we mentioned this article from Variety stating that Bryan Singer is highly unlikely to direct the Superman Returns sequel, Latino Review posted more possible bad news for the second film -- Brandon Routh may not return either as Clark Kent/Superman. According to the site, the actor that lands the Superman role in George Miller's Justice League will go on to star in a separate Superman movie as well. Again, none of this is official until the studio actually confirms or denies these rumors (about both Singer and Routh), so it will be a wait-and-see game for now. http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6648 Say why doesn't anybody get Tom Welling to play Superman for crying out loud? __________________ |

Tom is known for Smallville, if he became superman now, it would kinda ruin it for those who watch smallville (some ppl, not all) and those people are called "lost viewers" which results in lost money for the show.
long story short TOm won't do anything superman related until smallville is over. __________________ |

I think the time is ripe for Tom to take on the mantle of Supes now that the 8th season has been said to be the last for Smallville. __________________ |

Update maybe Brandon Routh is returning to play Superman after all according to ain't it cool news.
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/35200 Quote: Right now, Routh is still Warner's choice to return if they make another stand-alone SUPERMAN film, and that's based on conversations as recently as a few weeks ago. __________________ |

Quote: As interesting as that could be, it is highly doubtful for this reason - Tom turned down Smallville several times because he was adamant about not wearing the uniform.
Say why doesn't anybody get Tom Welling to play Superman for crying out loud? I think it would be cool if they turned the "mythos" completely updside down and did something completely different for the next film - regardless of who stars in it/directs/writes it.
