It says "Lionel Luthor" on the tombstone. So that mystery is solved. One mystery at a time I guess. There are a lot of questions to answer. __________________

my guess is that Jor-El would somehow use either the body of Lionel or a ghostly apparition of Lionel will appear to help or warn Clark about something... but that's just me... __________________

I have to say I really enjoyed Descent. I think it was the best episode of the season. While at the same time I hate the prospect of losing John Glover as a regular cast member. He's a great actor and I hope they find a way to bring him back.
The tension between Clark and Lex is got a lot more realistic this episode. Seems like they are just finally starting to be completely honest in their jabs at one another now that Lex has completely gone evil and there is probably no way they'll ever be friends again. One has to ask how would a super powered Clark Kent keep from smashing Lex's face in? After all Lex killed his own father. You just don't get any more evil than that. Lex had the audacity to point to the blame of Jonathan Kent's death at Clark. It was almost like he was the devil himself trying to put a guilt trip on Clark.
I'm left with questions after this episode like did Lionel truly change? A couple of episodes ago he had kidnapped Clark to regain evidence he needed to protect his own hide. This is the same man that it was revealed in episodes past had killed his own parents. Is this just a case of reaping what you sow?
The picture I believe they wanted to paint was that Lionel's death is part of what makes Clark the man that he is as Superman in the future. I wonder if Lionel Luthor will make his way into other areas of Superman mythos like comics and movies in the future. __________________

Absolutely everything on the show that happens while Clark is a part of it becomes part of what makes him the eventual iconic figure-even the stuff that doesn't affect him directly or immediately. Think of Chloe's healing power as a good example of this. That power doesn't affect him at all really, except that it allows him to 'mentor' someone else like Jonathon had mentored him in the past, just for one small example. __________________
