Funny, I have always "felt" when evil dies it busts up in small pieces just like they showed with Brainiac, so it can never reassemble.  I knew a really evil guy once who killed himslf, and that nite I dreamed he was in a million pieces like colorful dust floating around for eternity.  My conception of "hell" I guess.  Just odd that Brianiac busted up the same and reminded me.(The end of evil, not in hell, just non able to exist , only as bits of nothing, as dust)Now where is my can of "End-Dust"--Oh! Oh! Don't breathe. My theory  is "shot to hell"!! Ha Ha.
And back to the subject, Brianiac seemed to suffer greatly, the way Clark killed him--If I just ran my computer thru with that same thing (and don't think I haven't been tempted to stomp it "to death"); would it feel pain?  Maybe that is the bottom line? If something is writhing in agony I tend to feel it has life.  I would have no sympathy for my fallen computer tho.
Just filling space and time here with you today.

Well I think it's more than it's ability to feel pain, but knowing something feels pain can definitely create feelings of sympathy even for a computer, I suppose.

Bottom line is Braniac bad, and probably not really dead anyway, but while it lasts, good riddance. I mean we all know he died way to easy which can only mean he's coming back. Of course Captain Kirk died way to easy and he's never come back.

If you're giving Clark a pass because the thing he killed wasn't human, then Lex gets the same pass.

Their actions were identical.

Lex got a pass from me(remember) Because of the "love" thing.  Not pure evil where love exists. I seem to be very firm and sure of that.

I consider Clark a super human, but still a human. After all on planet Krypton, Kryptonians aren't even super. They are just like you and me. If you cut them do they not bleed?
