Back in October of 2007, Mark Millar (Wanted) said he was going to pitch Warner Bros. Pictures his vision of the "Superman" franchise. Now, just a few days ago, he told the Daily Record he is taking it a step further:

But Mark's big dream is making a Superman movie.

He said: "Since I was a kid I've always wanted to reinvent Superman for the 21st century.

"I've been planning this my entire life. I've got my director and producer set up, and it'll be 2011. This is how far ahead you have to think.

"The Superman brand is toxic after that last movie lost $200 million, but in 2011 we're hoping to restart it.

"Sadly I can't say who the director is, but we may make it official by Christmas.

"But fingers crossed it could work out, that would be my lifetime's dream."

Millar later clarified on his message boards:

That Superman news is interesting, isn't it? In the interests of clarity (because I'm sure this will be picked up somewhere) a very well known American action director heard about my love of Superman, approached my and asked me to team up with he and his producer to make a pitch for this. We've been talking for several weeks now and, if this is going to happen, we'll know by Christmas. He has huge pull at WB so fingers crossed. But this is nothing more than a huge US name pulling me into his fold and making me part of a package."

Back in March, Bryan Singer said he was still developing the sequel and in April, Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull described a sequel in which we'd see "Superman as more of an angry god." We'll have to wait and see how this all turns out.

I'm confused about the losing 200 million bit. I was pretty sure Superman Returns made a profit.

Imdb.com says it was budgeted at $270,000,000 and boxofficemojo says the total worldwide box office was $391,081,192. Then if start including toys and other merchandise sounds like a pretty good profit to me.

As far as Mark Millar, well anytime someone has a great love for the character gets involved that's a good first step. Have to see what his direction would be before I got too excited. The biggest thing I want from a Superman movie is lots of action and adventure. I want to see Superman fight some super powered foes as well as some more airplane scenes. Really push Superman's powers to the limit on screen. It should be like a one wild amusement park ride!

I like the part about "Inventing Superman for the 21st Century" I am positive the suit will go,& the reporter job will go.  What else will be gone?  What will be added for the 21st Century ?  I think it is a great idea!

While I don't mind having a new twist on an old classic.  Some super conservatives might have a problem.  Anyway, very exciting!

I can live without the suit for the most part but I don't want to change the things that make Clark Kent who he is like the reporter job, Lois Lane, etc. It can still retain the classic stuff while adapting some new ideas into the mythos.

Funny back in the 70's Clark was a TV anchorman. Maybe he could be a internet reporter now. Nahh!

Internet panelist for the AP? Maybe, but it would sort of take away the "near the action" that clark needs in order to know what's going on.

Mark Millar is my current favorite writer. I'm sure HIS version of Superman will be awesome. Anyone here ever read any of his stuff? He's done 'The Ultimates' and 'The Ultimates2' and is currently the writer for Fantastic Four, Wolverine:Old Man Logan, Kick Ass and 1985. They are all worth picking up. And I believe they are all gonna tie in together somehow.
