Now that Michael and Kristen have left the show, if Tom leaves, the show could become "After-Smallville."

It would be like "AfterMASH," which had only some of the characters from "MASH," none of the major ones.

It would be like "The Andy Griffith Show" without Andy Griffith.  Known as "Mayberry RFD."  (Which might have been better with some meteor freaks.)

Or "Welcome Back Kotter."  After Gabe Kaplan left, Mr. Kotter was replaced by Mrs. Kotter.

Several key thespians left "The Waltons" but it continued on.

Even after Ron Howard left, "Happy Days" continued on.  One actor who filled the void was Ted McGinley, considered responsible for killing "The Love Boat," "Happy Days," and "Married With Children," even though all those shows went on for years after he joined.

Fonzie, on water skis, jumped over a shark, which inspired the phrase "jump the shark," which means a TV show does something so incredibly stupid the show goes downhill from there.

If Tom leaves but "Smallville" continues, Clark should jump over a shark!

And maybe those two temporary replacements from "The Dukex of Hazzard" could join the cast.

(Although after reading the official description of "Odyssey," I think the changes sound pretty good.  The Justice League should lure fans in.)

Well on Happy Days they still had the Fonz when Richie left.

I've seen Mayberry RFD on TVland. Man that was a boring show. The old black and white episodes of Andy Griffith I can watch over and over and over again, but not RFD.

Smallville without Tom Welling would not be very cool to me. That would be missing the point which is about how a kid grows up to be Superman.

Interesting points though. I love classic TV.
