SupermanTV.net Forum / Superman / Superman Returns Movie / Tom Welling should play Superman

Posted:  07 Jul 2006 19:49
Brandon Routh was PERFECT as !!!!!!! I dont know why people are saying he's not even before the movie came out people were judging him, since hes a new comer its easier to believe hes superman, because if it would have been tom welling, it would have just been, "oh well ok, thatz just tom welling in a superman suit" but this guy was believable because no one had ever seen him before except for maybe on that one tv soap. I think he was perfect!!! the character i wasnt happy with was lois lane, but she was O.K

I mean, Tom Welling would have been a Good uperman, but I don't know...the movie wouldn't have been the same...I don't know

The Movie Blew! A very bland & unoriginal film.
Tom would not have change my mind on the story arch of the movie. At least for this generation would have taken flight.

IMHO, SUPERMAN should have stayed on the shelf until SMALLVILLE has end.
SR made some $$$ so the studio is happy, you guys saw a film, when any film would do.
Guess I'll have to wait another decade for the next guy to portray    Maybe in 10 to 20 years TOM WELLING will don the BIRTHRIGHT.!?
Until then I'll just be the man, the man!

I believe the movie was good...Tom Welling may have made the movie better...or maybe even worse...who knows...

Chris Reeve co-starred with Tom Welling on Smallville. Tom is a shoe-in for Superman. This should have been simple for Hollywood. A no-brainer. But they can't get anything right these days. Bryan Singer failed miserably. Brandon Routh looks like a dork. And the story made no sense. First off they changed the wrong thing - the costume. That should have been left alone and they should have casted a new actor, not an impersonator of Chris Reeve. I'll stop there.

Well I think we've beaten this topic to death when a lot of people continually repeat the fact that Tom doesn't want to wear the suit, ever(it's even written into his contract). I think the reasoning behind Brandon being chosen for the was his likeness to Chris but also he resembles superman in comic form. I think that everyone is missing the fact that the whole idea of this movie was to reintroduce the world to superman on the big screen so that Singer could greatly elaborate on the storyline in the upcoming movies. The story made sense to the point that he can build greatly on it. Apart from anything Brandon has a much greater resemblence to Chris than Tom does anyway otherwise he wouldn't have won a Christopher Reeve look-a-like contest a couple of years ago. Some of his scenes as Clark a just freaky and he also does the whole clenched jaw thing like Chris really well too.

The only really big complaint I have with  Brandon is his haircut. Too long and kinda shabby especially when he's Clark. If I had to complain that would be the biggest complaint.

I think he's actually a pretty good actor as far as that goes.

Reintroduceman?
man needs no introduction!
Brandon would have been OK for a Christopher Reeve film biography.

Well Billy for the modern generation of film goers I think they kind of needed to see a new big screen version of the man of steel because anyone over the age of about 25 knows what a superman movie looks like on the big screen but the rest would have been guessing.

lol...

Sadly the 25 and under crowd still have yet to see the MAN of STEEL on the big screen! Just and updated Lois and Clark

No I disagree that the new movie was an updated version of L & C. Like I said earlier "this" was just to reintorduce the character. Although it wouldn't bother me if they did follow a similar vein to L & C with regards to the way they have Clark as a person. No offence to Chris or the way the original movies but I just have a bit of trouble being convinced of the fact that a man 6'4" and 220 odd lbs could be seen as a nerdy whimp. I mean I know some men who are that size and you could put glasses and a pin-striped suit on any of them and you still wouldn't get me arguing with any of them. I mean I know that Tim will argue the point that I should just dissolve into my imagination but I still just don't get the whole idea that glasses make a person nerdy and whimpy which is why the changed Clark's personality in L & C I think. You know to go with the times a bit more that glasses just mean bad eyesight(or in this case just a disguise) nothing to do with there physical capability or prowess.

I like the big full length costume similiar to superman's because it looks more adult and grown up than some of the others but that's just my opinion.

The reason why Tom Welling didn't play Superman in Superman Returns is because he would have had to leave Smallville, it's true, if he would have played Superman Smallville would have been canceled.
