What's with Brandon Routh playing Superman, Tom Welling's perfect for the role?

Ya, I am a guy, so I don't know if I can say he is hot.
But just the same, Tom Welling is Superman right now, I will not be able to watch some other guy try to be him. Also, I think it takes special type of person to be superman, I don't think this new guy has what it takes, is it to late to write any one and tell them to rethink this? |

| I definitly feel Tom Welling should play the role of Superman. He has proven to be a worthy actor and can pull off the boy scout and mean side very well. Tom has all the physical features Chris Reeve had both facial and body-Brandon looks more like Jimmy Olson. | ||

| I signed up for a petition to have Tom Welling play the role of the Man of Steel. It seems that Bryan Singer would want to take the same route. Christopher Reeve was a small time soap opera actor before he got the lead role but the moment the producers looked at him he knew he was the one. Brandon Routh was also a yet to be known TV actor but looking at him made me wonder if he really fits to be the Man of Steel. Tom Welling still is the one. | ||

I think the big issue with Tom Welling being Superman on the movie would be scheduling. They would have had to wait another year or two or cancel Smallville possibly.
I read the star of Fox's House was going to play Perry White but his show got unexpectedly carried over for another season so he lost out on the part. That was just for the part of Perry White so I can imagine that the part of Superman would have taken much more time than possible for Tom Welling to be able play on the movie and tv at the same time. Unless of course they shot it in Canada and used the same sets instead of going to Australia. __________________ |

As much as I love Tom I heard it was his fault he is not playing super man. He refused the part, and he still refuses to put on the tights. I read it in an interveiw a few months back.
Sucks, I really don't think I will be able to watch the movies with this other guy. |

| There is no doubt that Tom should be playing this role. The casting directors should understand that the people that are going to go and see this are the same individuals who live and breathe Smallville/Superman. The main reason I hear they don't want Tom playing the role is because he has not yet grown into Superman on the show and they don't want to show him in different roles. If that is the case then they should wait. I would rather wait 2 or 3 more years and see a good movie with a good cast then some crappy guy trying to fill the role. No one will ever replace Christopher Reeve but Tom is the closest. Right now he is the man. We have all been watching him the last 4 years and have been waiting for him to don and clear his blue, yellow and red suit. Oh, and by the way it is red not maroon. Someone needs to fire the color blind costume artist. | ||

WELLING AND REEVE ARE SUPERMAN! ROUTH LOOKS LIKE HE SHOULD BE DELIVERING PIZZA.
NOT ONLY DOES ROUTH SUCK, BUT SINGER EVEN MANAGED TO SCREW UP THE COSTUME. UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE WILL STILL PAY TO SEE THE MOVIE EVEN THOUGH IT WON'T BE NEARLY AS GOOD AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN. WB AND BRYAN SINGER SUCK |

| Tom Welling Should play superman in the upcoming movie because they have had to many ppl ruin the Name Superman with they're bad acting .. Finally you get someone who looked young enuff to be teenage superman who has amazing acting skills and now he is old enuff to play SUPERMAN and you go and change they actor what the F**K ? I'm seriously upset that all these movie companies and television ppl have ruined the best comic book superheroe legacy ever.. | ||

I agree with you all. Tom Welling should be the next Superman. I can't see anyone else as the man of steel. Also this new guy sucks. He doesn't remind me of Superman at all. Unlike Spiderman they can't hide this guy behind the mask. Also since the costume wasn't broke why change it? Dean Cain's Superman outfit or even something similar to Christopher Reeve's would have been good.
I am so upset with this movie. The only thing interesting about it seems to be the story. I hope WB still does something with Tom Welling once the series matures his character enough to become Superman. If not it would be a waste. If we don't get to see Tom Welling as Superman then Smallville will feel unfinished in my mind. You would think they would want to cash in on Smallville's success on the big screen. I mean look at how well the dvd sets have become. Think what they can do with a movie and big budget. They already have a cast set. Change nothing but show us a Superman worth seeing : Tom Welling. |

| Sorry people but I have read a couple of times that Tom Welling never wants to wear the suit, that was a part of his contract in playing the part of Clark Kent. I agree that he looks the part facially but would probaly have to put on 20 to 25 pounds to get to the right body weight for superman. I also think it might not be a bad idea to keep an open mind on Brandon Routh playing the role afterall we haven't seen him in the role yet. | ||

Personnaly I think Brandon is perfect. He looks perfect as both clark and superman and i dunno what he is like as an actor but we'll just have to wait and see.
As for Tom Welling. You all keep saying he is superman etc but he isnt. He hasnt even played superman, hes played clark kent and a 17 year old clark kent for that matter. I just think you all need to stop judging this guy before youve seen what he can do. |

Let's not be overly pessimistic. I think there's a lot of work and effort going into this movie so I wouldn't count it out yet. Except for the bad suit which who knows may not be the final outfit we see on the movie, Bryan Singer knows how to make a super hero flick and he's a superman fan himself. I think the thing we forget is that he is probably more of a fan of the Christopher Reeve movie than Smallville. He wants to go back there where he probably first got really excited about Superman.
So far we know he's using footage of Marlon Brando. He's probably going to use the original music somewhere in the picture as well. The pictures of the Kent farm I've seen are mostly like the Reeve's movie version. So we may have to understand that for Singer he may have had ideas of what he wanted to do with a Superman movie way before there was Smallville on tv. So in all fairness we should wait till we see at least more than one shot of the costume before we give up. Sure Tom Welling is great as Clark Kent and would be as Superman, but he probably wouldn't want to be typecast as only Superman either. It's really hard for an actor to start out as an icon to get other roles. So Welling has probably got that on his mind. Just remember what we almost got in the 1990's, Nicolas Cage as Superman. He's a great actor but I never saw him as Superman and I didn't want a wacky Tim Burton version of Superman. It was ok for Batman, but Superman is definitely not supposed to be strange like Burton tends to make his characters. __________________ |

| After thinking about this for awhile i dont think Tom is the right guy for this role he still has the appearance of a teenager and i dont think that there is much they can do to change that but i dont think Brandon Routh is the right guy either superman is not suppose to be skinny and i thought he had blue eyes. | ||

| Tim, your comments about Nicolas Cage in the role are good but just think about who else they bandied around for the role before they settled on Brandon. I mean after Nic Cage there was Jude Law then it was Jim Calziel(sorry about the spelling). I mean we have someone to play the role that's the good part isn't it. | ||

| To be quite honest when I heard that they were making the new movie I had already read in the entertainment magazines that Tom Welling didn't want the role so I personally never considered him. When they first threw out Nic Cage for the role I thought that Kevin Smith, Aries in the Hercules series, would be a better choice because he is about 6'3" and a good solid build but not long after I heard about Cage for the role I read that Smith was accidently killed in a TV show stunt that went wrong, so that ruled him out. I thought that the main thing the lead actor needed was the height because they could always bulk him up. In hollywood there are a lot of notable actor who are about 6'2" or 6'3" like Seann William Scott, Ryan Reynolds or even Christopher Showerman but the bottom line is they made a choice and it was Brandon Routh, whether think this choice is right or wrong. Also, Tim, being from Australia I don't see anywhere near the amount of actors possibly suitable for the role that an American might see on their TV channels. My choice is stick with Routh and see what he can do, if he doesn't do the role justice then they'll change him. | ||

| hi guys, i agree with all of you about the superman thing in my opinion christopher reeve is the best superman ever and to me hes the one true superman. no one can fill reeve's shoes but welling is the closest thing since reeve was on smallville its as if reeve passed the superman cape to welling. but unfortunately welling wont be superman, in my opinion superman returns is probably going to suck it looks like crap so far.you guys should go post some sense into the posters at The Superhero Hype! Boards they think superman returns is the best superman movie yet. | ||

i have to agree on the fact that tom should play superman in the new movie, but if he does happen to play him i think the movie should happen to be relevent to smallville but it is not. they do not want to wait 2 or 3 years for the movie so lets give brandon the benefit of the doubt.if he is turtle s**t we will all be proved right
