I just purchased a CGC'd 9.2 copy of The Incredible Hulk #181. First appearance of Wolverine. Sweet. It wasn't cheap but it was worth it. It's guided at 1400$ for an UN-CGC'd 9.2 copy. So it's probably worth about around 1700$-2000$. I got it for 1200$. Now all I have to do is sit on it for 20 or 30 years. Not that I plan to sell it though.

Good grief. Congrats I've always wanted an issue like that. I got a lot of books but none worth that kind of dough.

CGC'd 9.2

What does that mean?

Awesome dude. I've read that issue. The Wendigo storyline has always been one of my favorites. If I had something like that I'd hang it up on my wall.

Sorry for the long response time Trin. CGC stands for Certified Guaranty Company. They have a rating system and if you submit a comic for CGCing, they'll rate it counting down from 10. Once rated it's sealed in a hard plastic case to protect it so a 9.2 stays a 9.2. It's usually used for older more expensive comics but lately people have been CGCing new comics so there are now a bunch of 9.4s and 9.6s and 9.8s, 9.9s and even a few 10s. Those are called diamond. You can't tell a 9.2 from a 9.6 with the naked eye but the difference in price could be hundreds of dollars. Even thousands depending on the comic. But older comics, especially Golden Age comics, don't relly exist higher than 9.2s. Maybe some 9.4s.

I may someday but for now it's safely stored away.

I meant 'really.' Also, once the comic is sealed in the hard plastic case it's in there for good. You'd have to break it open to get it out.

Question, how do you get it out without bending the comic? I assume you would want to get it out at some point, or the person you sell it to might want to.

You can get it out without bending the comic pretty easily but the plastic case itself will be destroyed. That way nobody can pull out a 9.2 and replace it with a 8.5 etc. etc. Once it's in the case you probably wouldn't want to take it out anyway. If I took mine out of the plastic case, not only would I lose the security of having it sealed, but the value would decrease by hundreds. Plus all it would take for a 9.2 to go down to a 9.0 is a slight bend in a corner or a tiny rip or a tiny stain. Then it goes from 1450$ to 1050$.

Man that stinks. I'd like to at least read it when I buy it. But turning the page would decrease the value. But I guess once I bought the comic, I wouldn't want to sell it so maybe it shouldn't matter.

If it's an issue I really want to read I'll usually buy a lesser copy for cheap and still have the good copy for collecting/investing purposes.

I have a reprint of that Hulk Wolverine story I got for a buck. I still have hope that one day I will find issues like that at a yard sale for 50 cents each. I got some cheap early New X-men once at a flea market. Like just a couple of issues away from the 70's reboot.

Issue #94 of the Xmen is about $1200. That was the first appearance of the new team with Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Colossus (that reboot you mentioned). I've got issues #101 thru to the current issue #504 with a lapse of about 60 issues from #390 to #450. I've also got issues #13 and #14. It's totally out of control. That's just my Xmen comics.

U got me beat, those I got from the flea market were like issues 99, 100 and later on like the Dark Phoenix saga. I've got a lot of books from the 1960's though that are of Superman. Got a lot of Supermans.

I have boxes of Spidermans. I'm on my fifth long box for Spidey comics alone. I have a total of 20 longboxes. Fourteen of which are completely full. That's about 225 issues per box. I've got Spidey, Supermans, Batmans, Fantastic Fours, Daredevils, Hulks, Captain Americas, Iron Mans, Thors, Avengers, Justice League of Americas and Xmens. G.I.Joes too. Hundreds of miniseries. Graphic novels. Etc., etc., etc. Like I said, it's totally out of control.

And I thought I had a bunch of comics, and I've got a whole room dedicated to comics.

Not to mention my collectibles, action figures, etc. I have almost all the vintage Star Wars toys and most of the 80s line of G.I.Joes.

You must be independently wealthy. Rob a bank or two, or did you use your powers to turn coal into diamonds?

I knew it. And I got to buy my comics the old fashioned way. I got to use my money.

Yep, I can see it now. If Zod doesn't get his bailout then think of all the jobs in the comic book industry that will be lost.

Well when I first got into making websites I went kind of crazy with it. For superheroes I've got http://hulkangry.com/ http://captain-america.us/ http://www.spiderman-web.com/ http://spideystore.com/ http://superherouniverse.com/ http://superheromall.com/ and some superhero stuff at my movie site http://movie-poster.ws/ and my TV site http://www.tvcrazy.net/

I'm a very busy man especially whenever I run into technical problems like I've had this week that's making have to redo a bunch of pages one at a time.
