in whisper, as we know, clark is blinded by using his heat vision, and kryptonite obstructs the way of his beam.

my question is, at the end of onyx, when clark uses his heat vision to heat the kryptonite to black k... how come he isnt blinded then?

what the scientific explanation for this... or is there one?

kinda think of it, thats a good question, mabey he didn't put out as much heat on the first one...huh, interesting.

also noticed that lana slips up in the episode 'sacred' and says that isobel is a 16th century witch instead of 17th century... but im more interested in whisper/onyx heat vision thing

i think the difference is that in "whisper" the meteor fragment is thinner, more like a broken piece of glass and it is also spinning through the air where as the fragment in "onyx" is a big hunk of meteor rock.  And because of the difference in crystallized shape and the fact that it is stationary, it reflects stuff out maybe, but it does not reflect back anything at Clark.  And another factor might be the amount of heat used as Aerolectric pointed out.  im sure in “onyx” Clark was trying much harder than in “whisper” due to the difference in situational circumstance.

oh yeah and "whisper" could also just have been like a freak accident.  Like the perfect cut of kryptonite correct amount of heat at the right angle and the right moment and speed and air density blah blah blah...

but it makes you wonder if Clark got his hearing ability from an accident does that mean that the Kryptonians who came after him in the beggining of season 5 don't have the same ability?

maybe its like a 'tech tree'?  like, a kryptonian can develop any superpower, and some happen to everybody, but others are developed based on life events?  i never thought of that.

thats a good point smalvill, because clark wouldnt have gotten his super-hearing if he hadnt gone blind

the reason he went blind in "whisper" was because the piece of meteor his heat vision hit was green which weakens clark the black k in "onyx" splits him in two like it did with lex (good lex, bad lex)

lucas, green meteor turns to black under extreme heat, we asked why didn't it do that in the episode Heat, because in that episode, it hasd bounced off and hit clark in the eyes, causeing blindness.
