Tim did get it right. The penalty is not in play in yet. That woman was Amy, Ethan's mom. I'm also fairly sure that Charlotte's conception was carried out on the island between Widmore and Ellie before said penalty as well, and before Widmore sneaks off the island to impregnate Penny's mom-which was probably the reason for the penalty to be put in play. Maybe after Widmore is banished, smokey infects expecting moms(who became that way on the island itself) to expire after giving birth? Maybe they're in a computer simulation of the island instead of the real thing in the more modern time frame?
Miles' dad being Pierre Chang was thrown around for a while now, especially in those Seanie B vids. Nice we got the conformation. I see your point about how he probably didn't just up and leave-which tells me mainly that Miles' mom wasn't completely honest with him. Either mom and child fled the island on the sub that Faraday just arrived on(maybe at Pierre's request even), or Pierre is about to die shortly and the mom was just sparing Miles the dirty details(again, after she escapes on the sub).
The thought also occurred to me while watching last night that Miles is exactly who we need to tell us who the skeletons in the cave belong to.
I'm also a little intrigued by his kidnappers' mention of 'what lies in the shadow of the statue'. I know it's probably smokey, but it should be a stunning reveal just the same.
