The CW's Official Description For The Season 8 Finale: "Doomsday"
Airs May 14, 2009 on The CW
CLARK AND DOOMSDAY FACE OFF — Oliver (Justin Hartley) tells Clark (Tom Welling) he must kill Davis (Sam Witwer), as Doomsday is a serious threat and must be stopped at all costs. However, Clark struggles with taking a human life, so the Green Arrow and his team decide to take matters into their own hands. Lois (Erica Durance) takes on Tess (Cassidy Freeman), but the fight takes a shocking turn. Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) gets caught in the middle of Oliver and Clark’s battle over killing Davis. Aaron Ashmore also stars James Marshall directed the episode written by Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders (#3T74721).
Writers: Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson
Director: James Marshall
Guest Stars: Ryan Kennedy (Rokk Krinn/Cosmic Boy), Kyle Gallner (Bart Allen/Impulse), Alaina Huffman (Black Canary)
UPDATED 4/28/09: Executive Producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders have confirmed for E! Online that Tom Welling and Erica Durance are signed on for Season 9, so that must mean that neither Clark nor Lois will be dying. Combine that with Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello's hint that implied "the person dying is not Chloe," and that should narrow the suspected dead to four other characters - Tess, Jimmy, Oliver, and Davis - unless one or both of the deaths happen to be guest stars.
Davis can't be killed, merely relocated, incapacitated or imprisoned.
Superman mythos without his pal Jimmy Olsen? Not likely.
Taking away Lex's replacement of Tess may be a possibility, but if they don't have someone nearly as omnipresent to replace her now it might kill the show altogether.
Oliver? Hmm. Did die in the comics as a hero and was later ressurrected(without a soul, but that's a story for another time). He was added to the opening credits this year, and he's been on multiple seasons now which in a loose way makes him something of a veteran. I think we might have a winner.
We can't rule out the possible second death either. *We've got the actual storyline this originated from with Clark 'dying'.
*Why is Cosmic Boy all by himself without the rest of his teammates? He might as well be wearing a Star Trek red shirt as part of the away team.
*Impulse also died in the comics, as well as Jon J'onzz. __________________

Bummer, but as expensive as old 70's cars are getting, why would anybody leave one in a junk yard. Unless of course it's a family car. __________________
As a public service, a warning that I'm about to speculate on this episode, which refers heavily to the spoilers revealed elsewhere. This is only my speculation of course, but some folks don't like spoilers at all and this warning was for them.
Quote: can't explain davis vs. doomsday just yet. innner demon fight maybe?
To me that is almost a very certain indicator of the return of Brainiac, especially in conjunction with the Zod symbol being shown. The mere fact of the symbol being shown narrows the character to either Aethyr, Namek, Brainiac, Faora or Zod himself. Since it's 'one character' who will be giving clark trouble all next season and they referred to this character as a he, this leaves Brainiac or Zod.
Maybe the twist will be that there was never any more of an existing Davis Bloom than there was of an existing Milton Fine.
I do like your idea of them introducing some new character we haven't seen on the show yet, but as much as I think they'd like to show the comic readers some love in that way, they probably don't want to risk losing any other viewers from a confusing or even aggravating introduction. We're not getting Darkseid or Imperiex or Metallo or whatever-at least not in the finale.
Another possibility crosses my mind as well, with the Davis face-off. Perhaps Zod will inhabit the character of Doomsday basically 'pushing' Davis out of it, and that last minute character reveal will actually be Zod himself and the metaphorical death will actually be Davis? Not that Brainiac couldn't take over the creature as well and within the realm of possibility seperate Davis from it.
--------------------------------------------
It's funny, but something that actually bothers me is Lois maybe going back in time as what looks like another easy fix, deus ex machina. I have something of a love hate relationship with the idea of time travel, and the part I hate is when characters use it as a quick fix. __________________

Man that is one wicked piece of artwork!
Come to think of it pak weren't we promised Darkseid this season, or at least rumored. __________________
I don't recall anyone with the show actually ever hinting at Darkseid ever showing up, aside from the occasional offhanded comment. __________________

WHOA That Is ONE Really Cool Looking Picture Of uperman VS Doomsday. That trailer looks Awesome. I can't wait to watch and see what is going on. My girl says she was shocked to see that guy from The Legion come back and tell Clark that he is going to die, which doesn't make sense to us. If uperman lives till even up to the 31st century, then why is he going to die NOW? We both are confused. __________________
