So far, Allison Mack, Tom Welling, and Erica Durance are coming back to Smallville in September. There's also rumors of Sam Witwer playing Zod but nothing solid yet.
That's all for now, let's keep future spoliers on this thread!

You know was it my imagination or did for that half second they showed Zod, did he look like he had sort of a resemblance to a younger Terence Stamp? Think he might have the Zod beard and all that. __________________
UPDATED 5/27/09: Smallville has sent out a casting notice for a role called "Mason." Here's what they're looking for:
"MASON: Late 20's early 30's. He's a handsome charismatic charmer who savors life. He appreciates good food, loves fast cars and sees beauty in every woman. There isn't a detail in life that eludes his senses. He is a master of seduction... knowing what everyone wants and needs before they do. But don't let his magnetism fool you. There's more than meets the eye. His intelligence can't be matched. He outmaneuvers everyone in his path. Though he longs to find a home, that vulnerability can be twisted -- making him a force to be reckoned with." (Thanks to Ausiello)
UPDATED 6/2/09: Here are some details from the scenes that will be used to cast Mason. Be warned, this may not be the way the character will ultimately be. (If you're going to repost these, PLEASE include a link to KryptonSite.com and mention the source!):
- The scene takes place on the Queen Industries jet, and involves Mason with Tess.
- Tess is rushing onto the jet and is surprised by Mason's voice, who asks her if she's "All work and no play?"
- Tess tells Mason that she hoped he would have mastered more than a lexicon of cliches by now. He tells Tess she can stand down, becuase "it's me," and Tess says that "precisely who 'you' are is a little nebulous at the moment." Mason reminds her that that is "exactly the way you like it." He then keeps trying to find ways to try to seduce her.
- It sounds like Tess might "betray" Mason. In a later scene, Tess returns to the Luthor Mansion to find him inside, waiting. He mentions that she "turned on him" but he "survived it," and then works on psychoanalyzing Tess yet again.
- He tells Tess "I trusted you!" and tells her that he was the one shot she had at a fairy tale ending. She pulls a gun on him, and reminds him "You still need me." He realizes she's right.
Smallville
"Clark Kent is dead." So it was announced by... Clark Kent, who realized that to fully embrace the super guy inside of him, he must remove his mild-mannered self from the equation. How will Lois react to the loss of her coworker/soul mate? Oh, right — she's truly out of the mix, having teleported through time to god knows when!
Hmmm...could this possibly be true?? Could be...Maybe.
No Sam Witwer For Season 9?
UPDATED 6-12-09
Sam Witwer's character of Davis Bloome was killed in the Season 8 finale, "Doomsday," but a lot of fans had hoped that he would continue with the series as the character of Zod when the show returns for a ninth season. A leaked photo showing Sam with a goatee seemed to confirm these suspicions.
The Sam-as-Zod notion was first hinted at in the episode "Bloodline," where Faora commented that Davis looked "just like his father."
Unfortunately, it's looking more and more like Sam-as-Zod is not going to come to pass. A few independent but unconfirmed sources are telling us it's not going to happen, but of course, this hasn't been confirmed or denied by the network or the series' producers.
One theory is that Sam was always only contracted for one season, as many thought Season 8 would be the last; the other theory is that Witwer's contract explicitly states that it is to be playing Davis Bloome and not another character.
The fact that actors like Joe Manganiello are being considered for the "Mason" role - and he resembles Sam quite a bit - might also confirm that it's not meant to be, as it is doubtful the show will have two actors who look so much like each other.
Either way, official news or confirmation should be out by Comic-Con at the latest; unfortunately for fans of Sam Witwer, it's not looking very good at the moment.
Please, do you have anything — anything — about Smallville? Please? Please! — Gabriela
MATT: I shall reward your repeated use of the word "please" by sharing a provocative bit of intel I just stumbled across. A source tells me that although Sam Witwer was invited back for Season 9 — for possibly several episodes — at this time the portrayer of Davis/Doomy has no plans to return.

Finally!! Some news on the season premiere and episode 2.
Episode #9-1: "Savior" Sept. 25, 2009
Guest Stars: Brian Austin Green (Metallo/John Corben)
UPDATED 6/26/09: We can now confirm the title is indeed "Savior."
- Casting notices have gone out for "Alia," a "beautiful, sexy femme fatale assassin with mysteriously intimate ties to Clark and Krypton." She's an expert fighter, especially with a throwing star and a sword. They're looking for a martial arts background, and this role will recur.
Another female soldier who is described as "sexy and hot" is "Fiona." She wears a faded military jacket and turns against her leader. Together with another soldier named "Basqat" she imprisons her leader. This role may recur too.
Episode #9-2: "Metallo" October 2, 2009
Guest Stars: Brian Austin Green (Metallo/John Corben)
Michelle in the United Kingdom: Any Smallville season-nine news?
Green Arrow himself, aka Justin Hartley, tells us, "I heard Oliver's going to start drinking again. He'd better be a funny drunk. Who wants an angry drunk around?"
I am super-excited (pun intended) about Brian Austin Green appearing on Smallville! Is there is any chance he will be on for more than two episodes? — Gabriela
MATT: At this juncture, BAG has been tagged for only the first two episodes of Season 9. But your query allows me to share this scooplet about Metallo's small-screen origin tale: The producers tell me that soon after mild-mannered John Corben begins his "Daily Planet" gig, "his fate takes a horrific twist that will change his destiny forever." Hmm, would that be Prof. Emmett Vale's cue?
It's most likely that Lex will not be coming back to Smallville since Michael Rosenbaum has left. However--it's not completely confirmed that he won't have a cameo sometime near the end of the series.
Let's hope! __________________
