SupermanTV.net Forum / Superman / Superman Returns Movie / Question on The History Of SuperMan

Posted:  30 Dec 2005 00:26
Ok so I am new to Smallville and the whole SuperMan craze.  Oh I have seen the OG movies and thought I knew the story, but watching Smallville has me so confused. Can someone please explaine to me Lana Lang and how she fits into the story of Super Man, I had no idea she was in the comic books.  If she was in the Comic Books how did Lois come into play? I guess what I am saking is for a little summary of the players in the comic books and how closely does Smallville follow this?

Thanks

Lana has always been Superman's teenage sweetheart. When he moves to Metropolis he falls for Lois Lane.

The show is fateful to the overall Superman stories for the most part, but they've taken some license here and there like having Metropolis in Kansas and Lex Luthor living in Smallville. Luthor was originally from Smallville in the golden age comics era where Superboy existed but newer comics had him not meeting Supes till Clark got to Metropolis.

It would be impossible to be exactly like the comic books anyway since every generation of comic book readers knows a slightly different Superman.
Writers are always tweaking the origin of Superman.

I guess it would be safe to say Smallville takes a little bit from every era while adding a few things unique to itself.

Tim,
I could not have said it better myself. I think what you have said is 100% true. and I do have to say I love Smallville because it is 100% unigue. I My self am  a major Superman fan but (movie wise with Chris Reeve's) So smallville was a good change to the new age of things.

Yes, a very good explanation, thank you Tim. To Stephg1, where have you been? Afterall superman is the most iconic superhero of them all or did you just catch up because you think Tom is hot and Smallville is a good show. I you want to feel even further behind then think about this, my mother, who is 63 by the way, wathches Smallville because (my uncle) her brother use to read comics when they were kids including the old superman ones. She actually asked me on Christmas day when I was over there and the show was on TV, why Lex was a part of the storyline in this modern version? And no Tim as far as I know he doesn't have any of the old comics still lying around in boxes somewhere in his house because he died a few years back and I think he got rid of them years ago.

Take it easy on Stephg1. It's pretty cool when someone is interested in something usually reserved for fanboys.

I also agree with Tim and Superman182 and could not said it better than Tim. If you could explain it would take a couple of pages on here on how different the movies, comics, and Smallville are in the Superman mythology.

PS I was going thru a some of my old Superman comics and almost forgot. Do you know that Lana married Pete Ross? I can't believe I forgot LOL. Imagine that on Smallville.

Pete Ross in the comics is not even black like on Smallville. You know one might consider Smallville like a DC Comics version of the Ultimates or maybe a parallel world.
