I have seen so many people on other parts of the board saying that they didn't like Dean Cain in the role of Superman so here is everyone's chance to express their opinion on why you either did or didn't like him the role and give us a brief reason as to why. I personally liked Dean in the role of superman because he had a good solid build for the role, his facial features were pretty much up to scratch and he played superman in a very different way to anyone else before him with a stronger more human element to Clark. I think they based Tom's version of Clark on what Dean had done in the role more so than Chris' version of Clark.

Your probably right, Clark in Smallville is a lot more like Dean Cain than Christopher Reeve as far as he's not playing the clumsy nerdy Clark like Reeve did.
One thing I wonder about especially after the Lexmas episode where Clark of the future didn't even have glasses on is Smallville's Clark Kent supposed to be the clumsy nerdy Clark in the future to protect his identity or is he going to be cool guy Clark the rest of his life?
I think each actor brings his own strong points to the role and Tom Welling is probably a good amalgam of Dean and Christopher Reeve. He looks like Reeve, but acts more like Dean with some of his own personality thrown in the mix.
Dean Cain was probably best in my opinion in his role as Clark Kent. He seemed most natural as Clark. Sometimes he came off a bit stiff as Superman. I guess he was trying to portray Superman as just a disguise Clark wore instead of the other way around.
That goes to show you that the actor's perspective of Superman has a lot to do with their performance.
Reeve was more like I'm Kal-El Superman protector of the Earth and Clark Kent is my disguise. Not that you didn't get the feel he was a product of Jonathan and Martha Kent's raising, he was just playing Clark's nerdy aspects to the hilt.
I agree that Dean put more of a human element to Clark. He made you believe Superman wasn't perfect. He needed his parent's advice from time to time where as George Reeves always knew what to do or he had to figure it out on his own. __________________

While being a good actor, Cain didn't look the part to me. I've always said he looks too ethnic. Superman should not look Italian or Samoan.

That would mean, GeneralZod, that George didn't look the part either because I thought that the reason they chose Dean was because he a good resemblance to George. Well they don't actually specify what ethnic look superman should be anywhere as far as I know. Italian maybe but I live around the Samoan part of the world and that ethnic look wouldn't cut it. I mean you could have the height and build of a Samoan but to get the right looking anglo-saxon nose and jaw, not to mention the baby blue eyes, you would have to have the man with a lot more caucasian the islander in his genetic make-up. I am not racist so if my above comments offended anyone I am truly sorry it is just that superman has always been a white man so I think they should kind of stick with that trend.

I thought that Cain was a good Superman, but he was a great Clark. I like Clark more as a normal joe other than a clumsy, nerdy guy. Dean Cain was right on the spot.

I like Dean Cain, I think he is a good actor. He was better as Clark than Superman, but I enjoyed the Lois and Clark episodes very much. Just watched one the other day on my dvd set where Lex Luthor comes back this time with the bald head.
Dean was in one of NBC's distaster mini series this year. __________________

Remember that quote from Tempus Episode. When Clark tells Lois, he is Clark first and superman is just what he can do. I like that. Dean Cain is comes close as the real superman, after all Supermam is just his disguised. Dean cain plays Clark Kent with an inate aura of justice, unlike Tom welling an eye candy whose aura seem to be to impress girls.

I have been a superman fan forever it seems, and superman says he is Clark first, and superman 2nd, unlike batman who feels Bruce Wayne is his disguise. I liked the Lois and Clark episodes very much from beginning, it was very cool to see them bring it back to TV and after the Falsh i needed my hero fix. Dean Cain in my opinion played a Good C.K. because of his humanity he brought to the roll, In the 60 70 and 80's C.K. was seen as the nerdy goofball, but a few years before the whole Doomsday incident he started coming out of that shell to be more calm and cool.

i think dean cain was an okay superman but his clark was really good he wasn't a detective-type like adv.of superman and he wasn't a total geek like superman movies if it wasn't for dean cain than smallville might not happen cuz who would want to see a geeky clark fighting meteor freaks

'Ethnic'? lol, anyway. Dean Cain is Welsh, French, Irish and Japanese. I guess its the Asian in him that you consider 'ethnic'.
