David Hasselhoff Was ‘Ultimate Nick Fury,’ Says David Hasselhoff

With all of the attention Samuel L. Jackson has received for his turn as eye patch-wearing super-spy Nick Fury in five Marvel films — most recently in the billion-dollar blockbuster The Avengers — David Hasselhoff would like to remind everyone that he was the original Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. The “organic” one, whatever that means.

“I love Sam Jackson, but you know … my Nick Fury was the organic Nick Fury that was written and discussed with Stan Lee before anyone got in there to change it,” the former star of Knight Rider and Baywatch told Movieline. “Nick Fury was written to be tongue-in-cheek, and he had a cigar in his mouth, he was a tough guy — he was cool.”

As most fans will probably recall, even if they’ve never seen it, Hasselhoff starred with Lisa Renna and Sandra Hess in Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., a 1998 television movie written by David S. Goyer and probably best forgotten. The Hoff remembers it, though, like it was yesterday.

“Stan Lee said, ‘You’re the ultimate Nick Fury,’” he told the website. “Avi Arad, when they bought it, said, ‘Don’t worry, you’re going to be the Nick Fury forever,’ and they lied. [Pause] But that happens to me all the time. That’s when you realize life isn’t fair.”

They should have had David be Nick Fury in all the Marvel movie Cameos that would have been awesome. Hahaha!

He'll always be Knight Rider to me, but I would have liked him being Nick Fury. I think he would have made the character a little more fun, and then they could have went with the regular Marvel universe version and he could have been in WWII with Cap. It would have been a whole lot simpler. They changed of all continuity just to get Samuel L. Jackson. One actor isn't worth all of the continuity of a whole movie or comic universe.
