WB Animation Changes "Beware The Batman" In Light of Shootings

While Warner Bros. and their DC Entertainment subsidiary have already made a number of swift policy changes out of respect to the victims of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado last week – including the delay of "Batman Incorporated" #3, the removal of some advertising for "The Dark Knight Rises" and other small scale changes – the company's response to the shooting is not quite over.

Today, Variety carried word that WB Animation would adapt the depiction of guns and gun violence in the show "Beware The Batman" which is set to debut as part of Cartoon Network's DC Nation block next year. Rather than continue with a more realistic style of gun in the program, animation for the CGI toon will be revised – at cost to the production – to make any such weapons appear more square and sci-fi looking to distance episodes from actual depictions of real world shooting.

It should be noted that Variety's story claims the change is not being made as part of an overall corporate policy but is instead the decision of series executive producer and longtime DC animation guru Sam Register. The article does not mention whether this will delay the release of "Beware The Batman," which was promoted recently at Comic-Con International.

For more on the story, see Variety and stay tuned to CBR for more on WB's response to the tragedy.
