Sad news regarding people who are returning for the 8th season.

Ausiello 03/05

Quote:
Question: Now that we know that Smallville's coming back next season, when will we find out which cast members will be returning? — Kirsten

Ausiello: You'll find out right this second (Warning: This spoiler will dramatically and suddenly accelerate, climb, stop and dive. It is not recommended for Smallville fans who are expectant mothers or those with a history of neck or back conditions or heart trouble) OK, here we go: Everyone is expected to return for Season 8 except — wait for it, wait for it — Michael Rosenbaum and Kristen Kreuk. I'll give you a second to catch your breath. [Beat] Sources close to the show tell me that both actors have informed producers that they don't intend to return as series regulars next season. However, they are open to doing limited engagements, and those details are being worked out as we speak. Thanks for riding!

And

Quote:
Question: I was wondering if you could let loose some juicy Smallville gossip about some future episodes. — David

Ausiello: Find a calendar and draw a circle around April 17. That's the day the show's first post-strike episode airs. It's also the day a long-running character — a series regular — takes his last breath. As in dies. For real. No cloning crap this time around.

Source: Devoted to Smallville & Ask Ausiello.

SMALLVILLEFAN1, you got the goods on the show these days.  Tell me this isn't true!!

I'm disappointed about Rosenbaum. He's one of my favorite actors on the show. Without Kristin I guess Clark will have to chase after some other girl. Could it be Lois or Chloe?

Update on that.

Ausiello "edited" his spoilers now:

Quote:
"Nearly everyone is expected to return for Season 8 except — wait for it, wait for it — Michael Rosenbaum and Kristen Kreuk"

and

And...

Episode #7-16: "Descent" April 17, 2008

UPDATED 3/4/08: TV Guide's Mike Ausiello has revealed that in this episode, "a long-running character — a series regular — takes his last breath. As in dies. For real. No cloning crap this time around." The "his" narrows it down quite a bit, unless Ausiello has made a typo...

Lana and Lex are dead.

But Lex will probably come back for a episode or two as supervillains and superheroes never truly stay dead.

interesting, if glover is singed for the next year, and chole doesn't count as a guy, the who else as a 'he' could be killed off?

Not Lex, pete? not likely though.  Brainiac? doubt it.  one of the league members? eh... don't think so...who could it be...

Agreed but his (M.R.)contract expires and it isn't decided if he will extend.  They might off him and rev up Season 8 along a different route? That is  one crazy path to follow; but I can't think of anything else. Who else thinks Lex can't be replaced by another actor at this point?

The Latest Rumors On Who's Staying, and Who's Going For Season 8
UPDATED 3-10-08

Here's the latest buzz on who's staying and who's going for the already-ordered Season 8 of Smallville:

Tom Welling (Clark) is already contracted to appear in Season 8.

The contracts for Michael Rosenbaum (Lex), Allison Mack (Chloe), and Kristin Kreuk (Lana) conclude with the end of Season Seven. However, Kristin is expected to appear in at least part of Season 8. The studio and network are currently negotiating with both Michael and Allison to make a deal for them to appear in Season 8.

Michael Rosenbaum has said in several interviews in the past that Season Seven is the end of the line for him; however, recent interviews (as of March 200 have implied that he is in talks with the network, and with the right deal, he could be back. As Lex Luthor is a major part of the mythos, we're hoping that happens.

No further information is available at this time regarding Allison Mack's negotiations. If and when anything is said about it, it will be posted here.

Erica Durance (Lois), Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy), Laura Vandervoort (Kara), and John Glover (Lionel) are all contracted for Season 8.

James Marsters (Brainiac) has expressed interest in returning for more Smallville in the show's eighth year. He's appearing in at least three episodes that have yet to air, starting with "Veritas" on March 27.

New updates!!

Ask Ausiello 03/12/2008

Quote:
Question: In last week's Ask Ausiello, you mentioned that "nearly everyone" was onboard for next season except Kristen Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum. Is Allison Mack included in that "nearly everyone"? — Donny

Ausiello: Yes, the A Mackster has already re-upped for next season. I hear that keeping Chloe around was a top priority for producers given the uncertainty surrounding Kreuk and Rosenbaum's future involvement. Speaking of which, exec producer Al Gough gave TV Guide's Rich Sands an update on the duo's contract talks. "Kristin will be back for a portion of the season — likely the first third," he said, "and Michael… quite frankly, those negotiations are just getting started. So there's no word one way or the other whether he'll be back next year or not." According to my moles (but unconfirmed by Gough), best-case scenario, Rosenbaum will be in 18 episodes. Second-best-case scenario, he'll do 11. Worst-case scenario, he'll no longer have any use for this.

Question: Got any Smallville scoop? — Miranda

Ausiello: In light of news that Lana will be MIA for most of next season, click on this link and ask yourselves, "Is this Clark's next major love interest?"

Straight from Kristin Kreuk's mouth @ Facebook.

Kristin Kreuk Addresses Her Smallville Future
Kristin Kreuk (Lana) addressed her fans via her online Facebook profile regarding her future on the show, from the rest of Season 7 to beyond. Here's what she had to say:

Hey Team...

So, I thought I would give those of you curious about Smallville a brief debrief. I am in Bangkok for a few more months. So, no shooting of the Ville for me. I will return for a undetermined, although small, number of episodes in season 8.

I am not really opening up the floor for lots of discussion, because it is not really the place for it. Obviously I have loved my time on the show, but I am equally as thrilled to move on to new endeavors. One of which is very dear to me, and that is GBD [Girls By Design]. So thank you all for your really fabulous support and passion!!! I hope this clears up most of the questions...

xoxo
Kristin

Well he said he or she has never been presumed dead. Who is that? Of course he said one of these days a Smallville character is going to die and stay dead. He  forgot Jonathan Kent I guess.
