Season 8 stuff already!!

Spoilers For Smallville Season 8!

UPDATED 5/15/08: It is likely that Lex will simply be "missing" as the new season begins. In his place the new character "Tess" will be looking over his assets. Producers hope to get Michael Rosenbaum back for guest shots; whether or not they will be successful at getting him remains to be seen.
- If Laura Vandervoort does not return as a series regular, it is likely that Kara will remain in the Phantom Zone until she can be rescued.
- Phil Morris may be returning as the Martian Manhunter in Season 8, and James Marsters has expressed interest in more appearances as Brainiac.

- TV Guide is reporting that, since his new pilot Austin Golden Hour did not go to series, Justin Hartley could be returning in Season 8 as Green Arrow.

UPDATED 5/14/08: TV Guide is now reporting that Allison Mack will indeed be back next year for all 22 episodes of the season.

Tom Welling, Aaron Ashmore, and Erica Durance are all returning for Season 8, and Kristin Kreuk will be back for at least a few episodes, but not all of them.

Laura Vandervoort, who was at one time considered a "lock" for next season, is conspicuously not on the Season 8 cast list...

Source: Kryptonsite.

Plus, according to TV.com, this episode was Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) and Kristin Kreuk (Lana)'s last appearances as season regulars.

There's more.

Smallville Exclusive: Kara's Future Is Up, Up, Up in the Air

Quote:
A new development tempers the good news about Allison Mack re-signing, which itself improved the mood after Michael Rosenbaum's Smallvile departure was confirmed: Laura Vandervoort's status as Kara is as up-in-the-air as, well, Supergirl in flight.

As fans noticed in the CW's upfronts announcement earlier this week, "They announced the cast... and I'm not a part of it," Vandervoort tells me, letting out a self-effacing laugh. "We were all surprised when they chose not to bring me back as a regular, but I'm sure I'll be back for one or two [episodes]!"

Looking at the bright side, she notes, "The show is about Clark Kent, and I was honored to be a part of it. I mean, my character became more than it was supposed to be. She ended up sticking around the entire season." Stories even surfaced a while ago suggesting that when Tom Welling hangs up his red jacket and blue tee, Kara might be spun off into her own series.

In the meantime, Vandervoort has a hot summer planned — literally. She's now in Hawaii filming Into the Blue 2, a follow-up to the guilty pleasure starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba. Chris Carmack (The O.C.) plays LV's partner in deep-sea diving and more. "We have a great cast, including also Marsha Thomason (Lost) and David Anders (Heroes)," she shares. "We're very lucky." Comparing Blue 2 to the eye candy-filled original, she says, "This is more of a suspense thriller. But yes, everyone is in bathing suits and stuff like that!"

Got something.

Watch with Kristin 05/19

Sam in Tel Aviv, Israel: Is Laura Vandervoort really out of Smallville next season, or is it still up in the air? I really like her, and they could have done so much more with her!

I'm told she isn't going to be a regular, but they're hoping she'll be able to return and guest star in an episode or two. Meanwhile, if you're a Laura Vandervoort fan, hang in there for Into the Blue 2. Audrina from The Hills, who has a small part in the movie, is getting all the press, but Laura's the lead!

Tanya in Kalamazoo, Mich.: Give me some Clois scoop, please!

Could it finally be happening now that Lana is out of the picture?! I'm hearing that during a conversation Lois admits that she is constantly thinking about a man who is described as "confusing, mysterious and oddly sexy." Huh! I don't know about you, but those words definitely scream Clark Kent to me!

Jake in San Diego: Any scoop on Doomsday from Smallville?

Looks like Davis Bloome aka Doomsday is forming quite an interesting relationship with one Miss Lois Lane! Sources tell me the first time we meet Davis is when he is attempting to pick up Lois at Ace of Clubs. Still, don't expect things to get too steamy between the couple—I'm also hearing that Davis Bloome is something of a Jekyll and Hyde.

So maybe Doomsday will be like a man and then turn into a monster like the Hulk.

Some good news.

Question: Do you know if Smallville will have the full 22 episodes next season? Everyone is saying that Reaper will take over in January when Smallville concludes. Will it only have 13episodes? 22 with limited repeats? — Barry

Matt Roush: I am assured by the CW that both Smallville and Supernatural got full 22-episode renewals. How Reaper's midseason pickup fits into this scheme, and how or when it will be scheduled, remains to be seen. A lot has to do with whether Reaper will be called into action early to plug a hole on another night: say, back to Tuesdays, if Surviving the Filthy Rich doesn't hold on to 90210's numbers. But given the general inclination of most networks to limit repeats during the regular season, it's quite likely that Reaper would get to spell one or the other fantasy shows on Thursdays at some point during the season. Hard to say right now."

New news & it all about the Green...Arrow that is.

Smallville Season Eight: Look Who's In!

It's official! The CW just confirmed to me that Justin Hartley (Green Arrow/Oliver Queen) has been locked in as a...wait for it...series regular for the upcoming eighth season!

According to the show's rep, Justin's storyline will focus on Oliver's past and where he comes from as opposed to his Green alter ego.

Good news, yes?

I'm also told that Kristen Kreuk (Lana) will most definitely be back for a batch of episodes—most likely six or seven—but they're still working out the exact number.

As for the two new characters—Tess (female villain) and Doomsday (aka Davis Bloome)—they are yet to be cast, according to the CW.

More news, including the fate of Lex.

Casting Has Begun For Smallville's Two New Season 8 Characters: Revised Casting Sides!
The casting process has begun for the two new characters of Smallville Season 8, and some new casting sides have been released for them.

Keep in mind that these introductory scenes might not be what hits the air in September. For example, when producers were casting for Jason Teague back in 2004, there was a scene involving Lana and a Vespa that did not get filmed in the actual show. Plus, these have already been edited once and could always be edited again before filming begins next month.

Today, some revised casting sides were released for the two characters, which implies the roles are not yet cast. The Davis Bloome sides seem to be the same as before, but there is some new information within the casting materials for Tess.

Here is some of the new material:

- Oliver visits Tess at Luthor Mansion. It is revealed that Lex has been declared dead by the state.
- Tess is depressed and lost, and does not beleive that Lex has ever done anything wrong. Oliver tells her that "the Lex you knew didn't exist."
- The scene with Clark and Tess has been revised, and Tess makes a reference to a rumor that Clark is the last person who saw Lex alive. She also notes that she finds it mysterious that "a random farm boy would end up being so entangled in the Luthor family." Although Lex is declared dead by the state in the Oliver/Tess scene, Tess refers to Lex's fate in this scene as "his disappearance."

Source: Kryptonsite.

And spoilers.

Spoilers For Smallville Season 8!

UPDATED 6/4/08: Lex will have disappeared and will be presumed dead.
- Don't be surprised if Ollie is back as early as the season premiere (perhaps to break Chloe out?)

Well, it took one billionaire to have Watchtower arrested, it makes sense that another billionaire will have to get Watchtower out of confinement.

Lois fans from Smallville have one request: Throw us a freakin' bone here! Please tell us she will finally be in every episode in Season 8. — Luke

Matt Mitovich: Would that I could, Luke (and the scores of others seeking such assurance). But at this point I am hearing that Erica Durance's sitch remains "the same as always" — that is, she'll do 13 or so episodes — though there is a slight chance we may eke out an extra one or two. Small consolation, I know, but you should understand that delivering 22 episodes' worth of Lois... well, like Denise Richards, it is complicated.

FINALLY!!  An update!!  Sam Witwer has been cast as Doomsday (Davis Bloome) and Cassidy Freeman has been cast as Tess for season eight of Smallville.

Exclusive: BSG Stud Joins Smallville as Doomsday!

I’m once again pushing the pause button on my work hiatus to bring you some major casting news — this time on Smallville.

My increasingly itchy moles report that Sam Witwer, best known to Battlestar Galactica fans as ex-Raptor ECO Alex “Crashdown” Quartararo, has been tapped to play the series regular role of Doomsday. Additionally, relative newcomer Cassidy Freeman is joining the cast as Tess, a sexy and vengeful firecracker with whom Lex hires to run his empire in his absence. Ironically, the actress’ most recent credit was the failed CW pilot Austin Golden Hour — starring none other than Green Arrow himself, Justin Hartley (who’s back on Smallville full time next season).

In depth descriptions of both characters have been posted below to refresh your memory.

Doomsday: Real name: Davis Bloome. He’s in his mid-20s. He works as a bartender at the hip new Metropolis lounge Ace of Clubs. He plays down his smoldering good looks with a self-effacing wit and down-to-earth soulfulness. But he has long felt like an outsider (hence his nickname). And beneath his charismatic, easy-going demeanor lies a brooding sense of isolation and insecurity. When he begins to delve into the haunting mysteries of his true origins, a darker truth begins to emerge, one of blood and serial murders, one of survival and utter destruction - one in which he is forced to confront the true evil inside of him.”

Tess: Drop-dead gorgeous.Roughly 28 years old. She’s determined, sexy, vengeful and has super-strength. “While Lex is away, she is in control of his estate and rules it with aggression. She’s had intellect and the confidence all her life, though it’s obvious she’s had some training from Lex as well. But as much as Lex has helped fortify her power, he is also her biggest weakness. She harbors an undying devotion to Lex, claiming he saved her life a few years ago. She carries out his wishes with coercion, force, seduction - anything to get what she wants. And no one can resist her beguiling ways. Even Clark Kent. She doesn’t remember anything before the day she met Lex. Once she realizes her previous life is buried below the surface, she’s desperate to dig it up.”

The New Cast Members: The Official Press Release!
The CW has issued an official press release about the additions of Sam Witwer and Cassidy Freeman to Smallville's eighth season. The release incudes some new details about the characters - including a last name for Tess and a new job for the erstwhile "Doomtender!"

And here it is:

“SMALLVILLE” BRACES FOR ARRIVAL OF NEW VILLAINS

Sam Witwer (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Cassidy Freeman (“Finishing the Game”) Join Cast of Hit Series for Eighth Season This Fall

BURBANK, Calif. (June 19, 2008 – Rocked by the mysterious death of Lionel Luthor and the sudden disappearance of his son, Lex, the town of Smallville will be put further on edge this fall with the arrival of two new villains, as Sam Witwer (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Cassidy Freeman (“Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee”) join the cast of “Smallville” (Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW) as series regulars for the hit show’s eighth season.

Witwer will play Davis Bloome, a charismatic Metropolis paramedic who – when he isn’t saving people – is forced to confront a burgeoning darkness inside of him that just might be a harbinger of doom.
Read the character breakdowns
Read information on the first screen test scenes

Freeman will play Tess Mercer. Handpicked by Lex Luthor to succeed him before he vanished, Tess arrives in Smallville as acting CEO of LuthorCorp. Beneath her mysterious allure lies a cunning ruthlessness to match her mentor’s.

“We’re thrilled that Sam and Cassidy will be joining the cast, and we have some very exciting things in store for them, their characters and ‘Smallville’ fans for this season,” said executive producers Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer in a joint statement. “They are both incredibly talented performers, and we cannot wait to begin to work with them.”

Best known for his role as Alex “Crashdown” Quartararo on the acclaimed series “Battlestar Galactica,” Witwer is also featured in the forthcoming “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” video game. His previous credits include “Stephen King’s The Mist” (written and directed by Frank Darabont) and guest-starring roles on a number of series, including “Dexter,” “Cold Case,” “Enterprise,” “Angel,” “Dark Angel” and “ER,” among many others.

Freeman previously appeared in the feature film “Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee,” which debuted at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2007. Her other television and motion picture credits include a guest-starring role on “Cold Case,” the made-for-television movie “An Accidental Christmas,” the independent film “Shades of Gray,” and shorts “Clock” and “Razor Sharp,” among others.

That's going to be cool.

The Doomsday character might prove to be interesting but it certainly doesn't sound anything like the comic book version. I guess it will work for TV though. I love a good mystery, and this character's story sounds like one.
