No rest for me!!
Episode #8-3: "Toxic"
October 2, 2008
Written By: Caroline Dries
Directed By: Mairzee Almas
UPDATED 8/27/08: Executive Producer Darren Swimmer has said in an interview at E! Online that "Chloe and Clark work together to save [Oliver]."
Episode #8-4: "Instinct"
October 9, 2008
Written By: Al Septien & Turi Meyer
Directed By: James Conway
Guest Stars: Charlotte Sullivan (Maxima)
UPDATED 8/27/08: From E! Online's interview with Darren Swimmer: "Maxima is the intergalactic goddess who needs to mate, and humans just don't fill the bill. The way that we portray her, one of her powers is skill at making herself irresistible to the men who come upon her—and Clark will not be immune to that. There's going to be one episode, but we're hoping to do more than one. Charlotte Sullivan is the actress we cast, and she did a really great job, she's really interesting."
- Although Lois is offered her old room back, Swimmer told E! that she and Clark will not be living together - for now.
Episode #8-7: "Identity"
October 30, 2008
UPDATED 8/27/08: Darren Swimmer tells E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos: "There's an episode where Jimmy will think he sees something and starts connecting it to Clark, and Clark has to dig himself out of it. That starts Clark thinking that maybe it would be wise to have a secret identity. He starts embracing the idea that there's someone out there saving people. He's not denying that completely anymore, he's just not ready to tell anyone it's him. And that makes this year very exciting for us."
- Sam Witwer (Davis Bloome) is not in this episode, but all of the other series regulars will be present.
- Casting notices have gone out for the role of this episode's bad guy, "Sebastian." They're also looking for a Mugger.
More Spoilers For Smallville Season 8!
UPDATED 8/27/08: Executive Producer Darren Swimmer has revealed to E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos that there might be some romantic sparks between Clark and Tess later in the season. "Tess is definitely interested in him—and who wouldn't be?" Swimmer said. Swimmer also declared himself to be a fan of the actress playing Tess: "Cassidy Freeman is also doing an incredible job. Nobody could fill Michael Rosenbaum's shoes completely, but she's carrying the mantle as best as I can imagine anybody doing it."
- Kristin's interview also reveals that Laura Vandervoort will be in "either episode #8 or #9," and that there are talks to incorporate Darkseid. The interview also revealed that there will be no Michael Rosenbaum at all in Season 8 - though we're seriously hoping that's a misquote.
- Lana will now be back "right in the middle of the season" which may confirm our rumor.
- Before posting her Swimmer interview, Dos Santos revealed this tidbit about something else that's coming in the future: "There will definitely be a Chloe-Jimmy wedding, but that it does not go according to plan. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a bloody mess," she says.
- Kristin Dos Santos' rival at Entertainment Weekly, Michael Ausiello, reveals that apparently Lois will declare her love for Clark at some point in the first seven episodes.
UPDATED 8/29/08: All of the regular cast members except for Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy) appear in this episode.
- Executive Producer Darren Swimmer has said in an interview with E! Online that Kara returns in either episode #8-8 or #8-9. This could be the one where Kara comes back; or, she may be in the Legion episode instead, assuming that is still scheduled to be #9.
With time travel Kara could come to Smallville with the Legion. She could be in the Phantom Zone for centuries released by the Legion and then come back since nobody ages in the Phantom Zone. __________________

Change in the schedule!!
So as most of you know, I'm writing an episode of Smallville this year. I've already begun working with the Smallville executive producers and head writers - Todd, Darren, Kelly and Brian - and some of the staff - Bryan, Turi, Al and Caroline. They all rock. They've been super nice, super genuine people and they've welcomed me into their clubhouse with open arms. Working on Smallville has been some of the most fun I've ever had in my career.
I can tell you with confidence, the season they have planned is easily the most ambitious to date. There are so many twists and turns. And episode 10. Episode 10 is INSANE. My episode is now 11, so it's going to be a hard act to follow, but I'll give it my all. I have to say too, that if they pull off where they're taking Doomsday...I mean, I didn't understand where they were going when they announced that Doomsday had a human alter ego. But it's freaking cool. As hell. And fans of the comics are going to be blown away when everything is actually revealed. It's really pretty spectacular.
Also, the Legion? They are absolutely, 100% on point with the Legionnaires and their relationship with Clark Kent. I can say you'll see an appearance by one of the Legion's better known enemies, but I can't reveal who just yet. More information to come when I can talk about it.
Episode #8-9: "Abyss"

UPDATED 9/2/08: Title Posted. Please do not repost this on other websites without a link to KryptonSite.com.
Episode #8-10
Air Date Unknown
UPDATED 9/2/08: Chances are good that this will be the Jimmy and Chloe wedding episode, and it has been said that the event will be a "bloody mess."
- Comments from "Legion" writer Geoff Johns also imply episode #10 will be a big event: "I can tell you with confidence, the season they have planned is easily the most ambitious to date," he said in a forum posting. "There are so many twists and turns. And episode 10. Episode 10 is INSANE. My episode is now 11, so it's going to be a hard act to follow, but I'll give it my all. Episode #8-11: "Legion"

UPDATED 9/2/08: Writer Geoff Johns has revealed that "Legion" has been pushed back to episode #11, and he has this to say about "Legion" on a comic book forum: "They are absolutely, 100% on point with the Legionnaires and their relationship with Clark Kent. I can say you'll see an appearance by one of the Legion's better known enemies, but I can't reveal who just yet. More information to come when I can talk about it."
Watched the video. Can't believe they are going to put Lana in the way of Lois and Clark after all that's gone on. How many times must Lana and Clark break up? __________________
Are we going to see more of Smallville's Oliver Queen and Lois? – Audrey
Matt: This is the point in Sprockets where I start parceling out sound bites from my in-depth Q&A with Erica Durance. Asked for a status report on Lo and the one also known as Green Arrow, she said, "Lois does have to confront her breakup with Oliver, and they do have a few storylines together, but from what I've seen they're not getting back together in the near future." You can track down a smidgen more dish from Durance in this week's Mega Minute. The full Q&A comes next week, maybe. (Sorry, I'm still reeling from this one reveal she let slip....)
UPDATED 9/3/08: Lois finds herself in a very unexpected situation. It's not a romantic situation, but it is putting her in a place she's never been before.
Episode #8-9: "Abyss" November 13, 2008
UPDATED 9/3/08: The friendship of Clark and Chloe will be explored, and there may be some flashbacks going all the way back to the first time she visited his very "Amish" barn.
- Only four of the show's eight recurring cast members appear in this episode.
UPDATED 9/5/08: Chloe seems to have forgotten a lot of her past and doesn't recognize anyone... except for Davis. Clark goes to Jor-El for help in restoring her memories. (But how, if there is no Fortress? We don't know either...)
Season 8 To Start With Ten Episodes
Thaks to Mr. Video, we have gotten word of The CW's current plans for the Fall season, which will start Smallville Season 8 off with a bang.
Expect ten episodes to run between the premiere on September 18 and November 20. This fast schedule should allow for a lot of momentum in the first half of the sesaon.
Keep in mind these plans are subject to change. __________________
UPDATED 9/8/08: The barn scene with a young Clark and Chloe isn't the only Clark-Chloe blast from the past. Other sequences from previous seasons of Smallville will be revisited, and the scenes being revisited were all popular among "Chlark shippers."
Question: Any cool news regarding Lois on Smallville? -- Paul
Ausiello: No, but I have some very interesting news about Chloe, who, as you probably heard, suffers some serious dementia in episode 9. Clark, in turn, seeks Jor-El's help in restoring her memories -- well almost all her memories. You see, Clark decides that his BFF might be better off forgetting a thing or two.

Confirmed.
Episode #8-9: "Abyss" November 13, 2008
UPDATED 9/10/08: Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello has revealed one of the episode's most potentially heartbreaking twists: "I have some very interesting news about Chloe, who, as you probably heard, suffers some serious dementia in episode 9," he says in his EW column. "Clark, in turn, seeks Jor-El's help in restoring her memories -- well almost all her memories. You see, Clark decides that his BFF might be better off forgetting a thing or two."
Remember awhile back they teased us about an interview with Erica (Lois)? Well, here's part 1 of it.
TV Guide’s Erica Durance’s interview.
The time is now for Smallville to take the Superman mythos to the next level by teaming Clark and Lois at the "Daily Planet." With the CW series' season premiere a week away, TVGuide.com sought to squeeze some "scoop" out of Ms. Lane herself, Erica Durance. Here in Part 1, the actress updates us on her episode count, braces for the critical storyline laid before her and, yes, reveals the last thing I expected to hear her say. — Matt Mitovich
TVGuide.com: First things first: How many episodes do we have you for this season?
Erica Durance: All I know is I'm doing more than my 13, but they wont tell me how many yet.
TVGuide.com: Those sneaks. Don’t they know you have bills to pay? Shoes to buy?
Durance: It is sneaky, right?!
TVGuide.com: Now that we're doing Lois and Clark at the "Daily Planet," do you feel as if, more than ever, all eyes are on you?
Durance: I would go crazy if I felt deeply that way. I would go insane! But what I do feel, because we're moving more towards that mythos, is that I have a lot more to do in each episode. I'm more involved, Lois is finding herself more, and she definitely is becoming that journalist that everyone loves. She's brushing shoulders with Clark a lot, so we have a lot of fun interplay. She'll go to investigate something, thinking that she's the one solving the problem, and meanwhile he's speeding around saving her a lot. It's quite funny.
TVGuide.com: Lois has taken some knocks for "sleeping her way" into the job and what not....
Durance: That’s what I hear, yes. But in this season they’ve given her some great material and great intelligence. You'll see that she definitely didn’t sleep her way into the job.
TVGuide.com: Obviously it's a very important turn that the show is taking. Have you and Tom Welling sat down to discuss how you're going to approach it?
Durance: The way it works, and it happened when I first came to the show, is you come together with your cast members and the producers and go over the flavor of what's happening with your story. And every year, I'm on the periphery but I grow a little bit. When this year came around and it became clear where they wanted to take things, yeah, it was discussed. We take it very seriously, to make sure that we're doing it justice and making these characters lovable. The big flag I'm waving all the time is to make sure that Lois is intelligent and fun and lovable so that the audience will like the fact that Clark likes her, instead of going….
TVGuide.com: "She's not worthy! She's not worthy!"
Durance: Right. So we're making a special effort this year, even with the small nuances, to be truthful to the Superman mythos.
TVGuide.com: At the "Daily Planet," will we see Lois and Clark more as partners or as rivals?
Durance: You get a little bit of both. That’s what's been fun about the relationship, these moments where they're going head-to-head and then pull together when they have to, when the stakes are really high. Those moments where one of them goes, "You know what, you did do a good job." And the writers have been really good this year dropping little bombs of, "Oh my god, do they really love each other? Does she really love him?" There's a lot of that.
TVGuide.com: I had the opportunity to break the news about the kiss coming up in Episode 5, "Committed." How would you describe the heat-level of the lip lock?
Durance: Oh. Well… that never actually happened.
TVGuide.com: No!!!
Durance: There's no kiss. I'm sorry to tell you that! In our [final shooting script], that was not part of it. [In a side conversation, a CW publicist confirms that the kiss did in fact exist in an early draft of "Committed."] But there are some things that actually come out in that script that are really, really lovely. They get into a lot of trouble, and Lois has to admit feelings that she has for Clark, deep down, in front of him. [Sighs] I know this interview isn’t going as planned, but I can tell you that when there is a kiss, it will be hot! [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: OK…. What about talk that Clark will offer Lois a place to stay at the Kent farm?
Durance: Yes. Yes, he does offer her a place to stay, and she's avoiding the issue right now. There's a lot of things that happen in the scenes I'm doing where you definitely see that she is in love with Clark. She's doesn’t want him to know, but she does realize her real feelings for him. She just doesn’t know what to do with them. And they're going to build on that. But we're only on Episode 5, so I don’t know what's in the great future.
UPDATED 9/11/08: The Lois & Clark kiss has been cut, but "there are some things that actually come out in that script that are really, really lovely," Erica Durance has told TV Guide. "They get into a lot of trouble, and Lois has to admit feelings that she has for Clark, deep down, in front of him."
More Spoilers For Smallville Season 8!
UPDATED 9/11/08: Erica Durance will be in more than 13 episodes this season.
IGN: Like you mentioned, you finally have that classic Clark, Lois, Jimmy trio working together this season. A couple of years in, do you still have moments where you're struck by how iconic these characters are?
Ashmore: Yeah. Sometimes when it comes to the iconic kind of moments, when I read the script for the first time, you get little goosebumps or something, because it really is kind of exciting. It's just fun to be able to do this stuff, because there's such a lineage to how it comes about. We haven't all three worked on a story or anything yet – I'm hoping that will happen, but just the idea of it… Yeah, all the dominoes are in a row now. Everybody's set here, so let's see what happens and what we can do with it.
IGN: You just have to get Michael McKean back as Perry White.
Ashmore: Perry White, yeah!
IGN: Can you talk a bit about some of the episodes and storylines you're involved with as we begin Season 8?
Ashmore: Well, a lot of it is revolving around the marriage and that idea of the lead up to that. There's a great episode called "Committed" and I don't want to give too much away, but basically Chloe and Jimmy get kidnapped by this psychopath and locked in a basement. He hooks them up to these electric chairs and he basically is so obsessed with truth and commitment and faith to the other person that you're going to settle down with for the rest of your life. He sets up this test where if you're lying, he's going to kill you. So the way to get out of this is to be truthful and not be lying. Don't have secrets; not cheating. So there's this amazing set up as to are they right for each other? Can they end up together? The secrets that they both have, is that going to destroy them? That to me is a great episode.
There's a little bit of development with going after stories. Davis Bloome helps Jimmy out on a ride along in an ambulance, trying to track down this killer that's totally demolishing Metropolis. It's kind of cool how they can incorporate things and everybody kind of bumps into each other and helps each other out.
IGN: Any encounters with Tess Mercer yet?
Ashmore: Haven't had any encounters with Tess yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time, because if she's the big boss, Jimmy will screw up or do something. But with Davis, it's been kind of superficial. Jimmy knows what he does – he's a paramedic and Chloe's mentioned him before, so when this killer is demolishing Metropolis and there's all these random killings, Jimmy thinks, "Well, what's the first thing that's going to be on the scene? An ambulance. So I'll go talk to Davis..." So Davis helps him out. I don't think that Jimmy has any idea that there might be trouble brewing with Davis on any level – the fact that he might be interested in Chloe or that he might be this crazy killer himself.
IGN: Or a big grey creature with white spikes?
Ashmore: Yeah, exactly! They're setting all that stuff up. We'll see where it goes.
IGN: Alison is directing an episode this season. Are you looking forward to working with her in a different dynamic like that?
Ashmore: So far, Tom [Welling] has directed some episodes and Michael [Rosenbaum] has. It was awesome and I can't see it being any different with Alison. She's such a sweetheart and I enjoy working with her so much. Good thing, because I do work with her so much! It is going to be interesting. Sometimes I've asked Alison, just in scenes and stuff, "What do you think about this?" – about playing a scene. And it's great, because she always says, "What do you think?" She doesn't tell you what to do. She says, "Whatever you think." I'm interested to hear her take and have her work as a director, because she's such a great actress. I imagine it's going to be nothing but good news.
IGN: This is a show where almost every character gets to have superpowers at one point or another. Jimmy's one of the few left who hasn't yet...
Ashmore: Yeah, no Kryptonite infections or anything like that. No superpowers. To be honest with you, I think it would be really cool if Jimmy got a power, but I'm trying to think what it is sticking with my character. My buddy is a big fan of the comics, and he's like, "Oh yeah, dude. There's lots of great stuff. You can be Turtle Boy or Elastic Lad or all this stuff!" I'm like, "No, I don't want that! I want some bad ass powers and stuff." We'll see. I have a feeling they'll probably steer away from it, just because the way I see it, Jimmy is the normal guy. Jimmy is the everyman. And that's what's kind of interesting about him, is he's not super involved in all this stuff, but he's very relatable in a lot of ways. So if you start giving him powers and doing all of that stuff, I think it might take away from that a little bit. It would be fine, but whenever I look at the character, that's how I see it. I don't know if that's their plan as well. But if they did, I'd love it! I'd love to chuck cars around or whatever. I mean, who wouldn't?
Q. What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on?
A. Right now I'm working on "Smallville," I'm playing a character named Davis Bloom who is destined to become Dooms Day, the only DC comic book character to kill Superman. Also coming out on the16th is a video game called Force Unleashed in which I play the character of Darth Vader's secret apprentice who has this epic journey and ends up impacting events in the Star Wars universe three and four.
Q. What can you tell us is new this season on "Smallville" and about your character Davis?
A. They have some really interesting, fun stuff planned. Davis Bloom is this Metropolis paramedic who is this really, really nice guy. He's a little bit moody because he's this perpetual outsider who was raised in the foster care system and was bounced from home to home. He's a really good guy and he can be a little bit moody and not terribly talkative at times but a very, very cool person. Chloe sort of recognizes that this is someone of her interest and they strike up a fast friendship. The problem is that Davis is having these blackouts and as they happen more and more frequently he becomes curious about what is happening during these blackout periods. He tries to figure out and unravel this mystery and what he finds out is really not so great. What's fun about that whole storyline is pretty much the how, it's not nearly as straight forward as that, we're going to be having a lot of fun with that. When I say fun, hopefully fun for the audience, not as much fun for the character Davis Bloom. What would it be like for you found out you were the exact opposite of everything you ever tried to be in life. Basically the fun, if you could use that word, is to create this character and as we get to know him slowly take him apart and drag him through the mud a little bit. Certainly the fun of it as an actor is the challenge. The word fun will enter into it as we get into the darker aspects which are psychologically draining as an actor. It's cool that we get to play both extremes with this character.
Q. What made you want to be a part of the show?
A. I'm not sure what the "Smallville" producers saw that led them to believe that I was the guy for the role, but they approached me for the part. They called me in and told me the story about this character and I was really intrigued by that. They basically just offered it to me. What made me want to do it was the fact that the story that they told about this character and the character itself was really interesting. Furthermore, I thought it would be very difficult to do and that's why I wanted to do it.
Q. Was anything about the role challenging for you?
A. Everything, the fact that he covers so much ground psychologically. Everyone is saying, "Oh, he's the new villain," and that's not entirely accurate if you watch what we're doing with it. That's not really accurate at all at first. I mean, there will be aspects that resemble what comic book fans are expecting from the Dooms Day character. Like all characters in "Smallville," there is a lot more to it than that. We're not trashing the history that came before it, we're not trashing the back story of Dooms Day that was added before. We're sort of adding to it and interpreting it and DC comics has given us its blessing in doing so. The challenge really is just creating as layered a human being as I can and like I said, taking apart piece by piece and trying to do that realistically. For example, one of the things that I keep trying to remind myself and remind everyone is that this character is not part of this Smallville world. He doesn't know about superheroes, he doesn't know about people who are infected with meteor powers, this is all new to him. That's also part of the fun, that this character who looks at all this stuff with a bit of skepticism, he doesn't quite believe in it all, is actually one of the most involved in that phenomena as anyone on the show.
Q. Where do you draw from for your portrayal of Davis?
A. I think like any actor you just kind of go with your experience, really more than that, when it come to anything to do with Sci-Fi or a fantasy piece or even historical drama, you need to exercise your imagination to a large extent. You need to honestly ask yourself, "What would it be like if it was really happening?" If it was really happening, not just we've seen it a million times on television and seen it a million times in movies so it kind of goes like this. That's not good enough, you're not earning your paycheck if you're thinking like that. You need to challenge yourself to go as far as you would go were it actually to happen to you. When it comes to things like the stuff that happens on "Smallville," these are extreme circumstances. These are circumstances that no one, that we know of, has ever really faced in their lifetime. As an actor, it's your job to parse that for the viewing audience who live in reality. It's about giving as much reality to a fantastical situation as possible. That requires a lot of imagination and in a lot of cases it requires some mix of faith because in theory if you're dealing with something that extreme, for example if you were to find out that you had superpowers or something, the emotional reaction might be quite extreme. It might be bigger than anything that you might imagine. Finding out that you have superpowers should be a bigger deal than finding out you're really good at playing basketball, or something like that. It's all about pushing the boundaries of what you think is possible as an actor, if you care to earn your paycheck as far as I am concerned.
Q. Davis does eventually become Dooms Day, did you have any reservation about taking on such a well known comic book character?
A. Yeah, some, comic book fans, Sci-Fi fans, these are people who have a very specific taste and then there are always the vocal ones that don't like what you do no matter what. I feel like I am prepared for that and I've done enough work in that entire arena to be prepared for whatever may come as a result. I'm here to do as I am told, I am here to do as good a job as I can and interpret as well as I can. Hopefully people like it, I'd love it if people liked it.
Q. Do you have a really memorable moment from filming the show?
A. I don't know if you would call this memorable or not, but I really enjoy working with Allison Mack, she's a sweetheart. The more that I work with her, the more that I realize that she is the perfect gateway for this character into the world of "Smallville" because her character is such a lovable, kind person. If that character said, "Hey, Davis Bloom is okay," that gives me a real leg up as an actor trying to create a character for a show. She has such a well deserved following in terms of presence on the show that if her character declares that someone is good and worthy of attention, that means there very well could be audience members that listen to that. I think that's a good thing and aside from all of that, Allison is a wonderful actress and she's just really fun to work with. She's a great person and I am glad I was sort of paired up with her early.
Q. Why do you think people continue to tune into the show?
A. A friend of mine said about "Smallville," this is before I was aware of the show, he said when you're telling a joke and the person hearing the joke already knows the punch line, the only thing you can do is tell the joke really, really well. That's maybe why people watch "Smallville," we all know the punch line, we all know he's going to tear open his shirt, and there is going to be a big red S on a suit that he's going to be wearing underneath, and he'll be ready to take off into the sky and be Superman. The joy of it is in finding out every little detail that got him to that point. I feel as long as "Smallville" continues to do that and I'm sure people will be interested to learn the how rather than just the what.
Q. Where can those interested go online to learn more about you?
A. There is a website that I have that promotes my music and that's www.samwitwer.com, it requires some update but there is some fun stuff there. You can also go to www.myspace.com/thecrashtones. That would be the closest thing to a Myspace page that I have. It promotes my music and my band and my band is a bunch of people who work in the industry who when time frees up we get together and play some shows. For example, one of my band members is Glenn Howerton from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." Another one of my band members is a guy named Brian Taylor who wrote Crank and is doing Crank 2 right now. We get together and we jam out and we put together some pretty weird stuff. No matter what music you're into, there is something that I've recorded that you'd be okay with. Would you be okay with most of the stuff I've recorded, it's hard to say. Some of it is pretty experimental, some of it is out there. Some of it you could show your parents though.
6 days remains until Season 8th begins and already different media are doing their part offering to the viewers previews of the upcoming premier. We know have the L.A. Times giving their preview of this upcoming season of Smallville.
“Smallville” fans who have followed the CW series for seven years will get what they've been waiting for: The Man of Steel working side by side at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) will hook up. Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) returns for five episodes.
"He's taken on the mantle of a superhero, and we're in Metropolis a lot more," said executive producer Brian Peterson. "We'll still have the grounded heart back in Smallville with the young, sexy, urban stories in the Metropolis. This is the year Clark accepts his destiny."
