Question: They're have been conflicting reports about where Smallville is heading in the romance department this year. Is it the season of Clois, or are they really revisiting Lois and Ollie again? --Jeff
Ausiello: It's full-tilt-Clois. I'm sure they will touch on Lois-Ollie, but it won't be anything significant.

Grace from Chelsea, U.K.: Do you have any news on what's to come on the new season of Smallville? Will Chloe ever be with Clark?
We're actually hearing of a "strained relationship" between Chloe and Clark next season on Smallville. Those two will always work together, and they will always be your "Chloe and Clark," but expect some tension in season nine. Sorry guys.

A major Smallville announcement is expected to come down at Comic-Con International this weekend in San Diego. Until then, here’s some scoop on the veteran series, which begins its ninth season on a new night—Fridays at 8pm—on September 25. Following the death of Jimmy Olsen at the hands of Doomsday in May’s season finale, Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is getting a little obsessed as the Red Blue Blur, his budding crime-fighting alias. “He is trying a little too hard to be a hero, and is leaving the rest of his life behind,” says executive producer Brian Peterson.
That might be just as well given the big comic-book-inspired villains the soon-to-be Superman will face this year. New Daily Planet reporter John Corben is transformed into the sociopath with a kryptonite-heart known as Metallo in a two-episode arc for Sarah Connor Chronicles refugee Brian Austin Green. “We know that there’s multiple versions of Metallo,” executive producer Kelly Souders says. “We picked one of the different versions and I think people will realize which one after the first episode.”
This season’s main villain is Zod, the Kryptonian nemesis of Clark’s biological father, who has made previous appearance on the series. “We had a little peek at who Zod was a couple of seasons ago, which fans will remember. But this a different incarnation of Zod,” Peterson says of the new series regular, played by British actor Callum Blue (The Tudors). “We’re introducing him as Major Zod—this is before he became General Zod.” Adds Souders: “Over the course of the season, the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters.”

And this.
Episode #9-1: "Savior" Sept. 25, 2009
Written By: Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders
Directed By: Kevin Fair
Guest Stars: Brian Austin Green (Metallo/John Corben), Alessandro Juliani (Dr. Emil Hamilton)
UPDATED 7/21/09: New stuff from TV Guide Magazine: Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is getting a little obsessed as the Red Blue Blur, his budding crime-fighting alias. "He is trying a little too hard to be a hero, and is leaving the rest of his life behind," executive producer Brian Peterson told the magazine.
John Corben (a.k.a. Metallo) is a new reporter at the Daily Planet who ends up with a Kryptonite heart. As for his backstory: "We know that there’s multiple versions of Metallo," executive producer Kelly Souders explained. "We picked one of the different versions and I think people will realize which one after the first episode."
- Regarding Zod: "We had a little peek at who Zod was a couple of seasons ago, which fans will remember. But this a different incarnation of Zod," Peterson said. "We’re introducing him as Major Zod—this is before he became General Zod." Souders added that "over the course of the season, the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters."

UPDATED 7/21/09: Lots of reports on relationships for Season 9, some of which are conflicting. E! Online says this about Chloe and Clark: "We're actually hearing of a "strained relationship" between Chloe and Clark next season on Smallville. Those two will always work together, and they will always be your "Chloe and Clark," but expect some tension in season nine.
- EW's Michael Ausiello is proclaiming that Season 9 will have "full tilt Clois."

This...is only a rumor.
Comic-Con's "Big Announcement": A Costume For Clark?
UPDATED 7-24-09
Fans are Twittering over a "tip" posted at AICN that alleges that Warner Bros. representatives have been randomly pulling fans aside at Comic-Con throughout the show to show them a costume that will be worn by Tom Welling as Clark in Season 9.
The costume has been described as "one suit," with the top being blue in the front and the back and red on the sides and arms, with blue trousers with rede on the sides. There is "no cape" and the "S" is "protruding out." Allegedly this was shown on a stand that could be walked around.
It does seem likely that Clark's "new approach" WILL be a costume of some sort, so do not be surprised if that at leastturns out to be true. However, at this point we cannot confirm if these "pulling aside" moments have really happened. Since AICN's tipsters also claimed the season premiere is called "Superman" (wrong), it's very likely some of this is only partial truth.
The tipster also alleges that Tom Welling will be at Sunday's panel - his first Comic-Con appearance ever - and that he will come wearing the costume. We're also skeptical of that latter part as well. Tom appearing would mean the entire regular cast of the show is appearing, which is great, and there is no doubt that a Welling appearance would make a lot of people very happy (and take the heat off of TPTB from getting grilled about "Doomsday," which is always a good thing). But the usually media-shy Tom Welling- wearing a costume in front of an audience of thousands of people? Sounds very unlikely. We shall see....
Please keep in mind that rumors are, at their core, speculation, and with all of the mass communication through social networking, anyone and everyone can make up a story. Which is not to say this story is entirely made up; just remember to approach this with caution until there is an official announcement.
The Comic-Con panel for Smallville will happen on Sunday morning, July 26.

Smallville's Tom Welling didn't make his Comic-Con debut donning his super new wardrobe as some had expected, but fans did get a glimpse of a certain superhero's costume during the show's Season 9 trailer.
Clark Kent will suit up and take a huge step toward his destiny on the CW series, as evidenced by a fleeting, shadowy image capping the video sneak peek.
Get the latest from Comic-Con 2009
Another familiar aspect of the Superman myth this season? The dynamic between Lois Lane and Clark/Superman.
"Lois will be smitten with Superman — and still find Clark irritating," said executive producer Kelly Souders, according to E! Online.
Is this the season that Clark opens his eyes to his reporter pal? Yes. But "just as Clark falls for Lois, she's falling for someone else," said exec producer Brian Peterson.
Lois will have extra time to juggle her complicated relationships, since Erica Durance is booked for a robust 18 episodes this season (after just 12 last time around).
Other reveals reaping much applause from the filled-to-capacity crowd:
* Tom Welling is directing two episodes this season, while Allison Mack will also step behind the camera again.
* Fan fave Geoff Johns ("Legion") will pen another episode this season — one that concerns the Justice Society of America.
* Green Arrow might get a super sidekick.
* In the villains department, in addition to Metallo (Brian Austin Green) and Zod (new series regular Callum Blue), Toyman will return, and the villainess Roulette might make an appearance.
* Despite Lex Luthor's continued absence, Superman's arch enemy "is absolutely not dead," Peterson said.

In case you missed our live blogging of today's Comic-Con Smallville panel, we have compiled the very important details that you need to know about season nine.
Much news was broken today, including the return of several iconic characters, the introduction of Major (not General yet) Zod (Callum Blue) and a preview that showed a very sexy love scene between Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance).
Get in here!
Here's a rundown of the sneak peek they showed at Comic-Con:
"The world's greatest hero has risen" appears on screen along with the Superman logo.
A montage of Clark on his path to becoming a hero. "And he is not alone," says the preview. Followed by shots of each Justice League member who has fought with him: Aquaman, Black Canary, Impulse, Cyborg, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Green Arrow, the Legion and Watchtower. Studio reps confirm to us that Laura Vandervoort is not returning to the show, despite her appearance in the preview.
The introduction of Zod, who's brought several friends with him (more on that below). He's seen fighting toe-to-toe with Tess.
Lois is seen fighting in the future.
Chloe (Allison Mack) relies on the protection of a gun this season.
Brian Austin Green's Metallo has a very sinister look to him. He's seen with the Kryptonite power source on his chest, iconic for the Metallo character.
There is a hot and steamy love scene between Lois and Clark. Heavy petting and make-out sesh included.
For a split second it seems that Lex has appeared on screen, but it could be our imagination.
Clark has a nifty new super suit. It's all black, no spandex, with the silver Superman logo on the front and a long black trench coat that doubles as a cape.
What we learned from the panel:
Chloe and Clark's relationship will be very strained. Says executive producer Kelly Souders, "They have a little bit of a rocky start."
Erica Durance is in 18 episodes this season.
"I think you guys are going to be pretty excited this year," says Erica regarding the Clark and Lois progression. "Lois is dealing with being smitten with Superman and still finds Clark irritating." This season is going to be "spicy," she adds. Lois and Clark will definitely grow closer this year, but there's a love triangle between Clark, Lois and the Blur. "Just as Clark falls for Lois, she's falling for someone else," says Peterson.
A relationship for Chloe and Clark is "dead in the water," says Allison. Clark is preoccupied with other women and Chloe is dealing with the loss of Jimmy while stepping into a more powerful position with the supes.
The entire panel kept quiet when asked if there would be a Smallville movie in the future. Curious.
Regarding the new Superman suit, Kelly explains that Clark doesn't just show up to a tailor and figure it out the first time. The producers know there is a long arc for Clark to become Superman and it's a bumpy road.
Justin Hartley says we will see a lot more of the Green Arrow this year. He's going to be struggling in a dark place. Peterson adds that in the first eight episodes you "will see him hit rock bottom."
The producers say Metallo (Brian Austin Green) is a big part of the first two episodes. The ninth season also brings the return of Toyman and we'll see Roulette as well.
Kelly says they do have a series finale planned if the ninth season is their last, however, it could change if they are picked up for a tenth season.
Geoff Johns, who wrote "Legion" this year, is writing another episode this season and says it will be "Justice Society of America."
Tom Welling is directing two episodes this season, while Allison Mack will direct one.
When asked if Lex was actually dead, Peterson says, we all know from the mythos that Lex is "absolutely not dead."
Peterson says they are brainstorming for a Green Arrow sidekick story.
What we learned in the press room:
Clark and Oliver's relationship will be tested this year. There's a jealousy because Clark has powers Oliver doesn't, and for the sheer fact that Lois and Clark are on their way to a relationship, while Ollie attempts to rekindle things with Lois.
When asked if the love scene between Lois and Clark is a dream, Peterson says, "It is one reality we explore in the show."
"Lois comes back from the future and she starts getting flashes and she thinks she has amnesia. She thinks something is wrong with her," says Durance. "I know that they're going to develop all sorts of scenarios for her to try to piece all those things together like a big puzzle to figure out what's going on, and then maybe be the lynch pin key answer to some of Clark's questions, which is a different place for her to be."
As seen in the preview, Chloe was wielding a gun. Allison explains that she's on her own this season, since the rest of the supes are off saving the world: "We'll see [Chloe] experimenting with some different paths. We're definitely going to see her trying new things this year. Always with the intent to save the world, but maybe not necessarily that Clark Kent has done."
We actually meet a young version of Zod. He's not quite a General yet, toting the name Major Zod. Callum explains that Zod is very manic and not quite in control of the troops he's brought with him. In his mind, Krypton has not been destroyed yet and he is unaware of Clark's existence.
Because of the time parallel caused by Zod, Souders and Peterson teased a possible appearance by Jor-El, though we'll find out more in the second episode.

Smallville Gets a Super Reception at Comic-Con
by Rich Sands July 26, 2009 11:36 PM EST
The final day of Comic-Con provided was, in a word, super. As in Superman. Fans started waiting in line starting as early as 3am for a 10:30 Smallville panel that marked star Tom Welling’s first ever trip to the Con. An electrifying clip reel kicked off the panel, with the final shot showing Welling’s Clark Kent decked out in his new all-black crime-fighting duds: trench coat, boots and jeans with a silver Superman shield on his shirt. The crowd loved it.
Executive producer Kelly Sounders said that even as they begin Season 9, “we’re gunning for Season 10.” And her producing partner Brian Peterson was happy about the show’s move to Fridays this fall: “X-Files, Battlestar, some of the best sci-fi shows have been on Friday nights.” Welling, now a producer on the show, will also direct two episodes this season, and Allison Mack (Chloe) will step behind the camera again as well.
Souders confirmed that Erica Durance (Lois Lane) will appear in 18 episodes this season, up from her usual half dozen or so. And fan-favorite comic-book writer Geoff Johns, who penned last season’s outstanding episode that introduced the Legion of Super-Heroes to the Smallville universe, will return this year to write another hour. This time he'll bring in the iconic heroes of the Justice Society of America. As for a return from the Justice League, Peterson said “we’re gonna do our best,” to make that happen, but hinted that budget constraints could be a stumbling block. Souders also threw out a writing invitation to panel moderator Jeph Loeb, a former writer for the series, as well as Heroes.

Episode #9-4: "Echo" October 16, 2009
Written By: Bryan Q. Miller
UPDATED 7/27/09: A villain from the past returns in this episode, and our money's on it being Toyman. (This was accidentally posted under #9-3 "Rabid" earlier today)
- Oliver ends up at a seedy club in Havana with two women in tow, and later ends up being chased by a large drug kingpin. He ends up having to be saved by one of his on-again, off-again associates and romantic partners.
- Meanwhile, Clark wears a tuxedo and a bow tie to gain entrance into the Ace of Clubs and goes by the nickname "Kennair." His "date" to the AoC? Lois in an elegant cocktail dress.
- Lois and Clark go to Metropolis General to interview a man who was held hostage, but it seems it may be a false lead. This still causes Clark's "reporter instincts" to get "kicked into high gear."
- Lois and Clark also interview a female hostage.
- It seems that Clark might get a new power to hear others' thoughts in this situation, hence the title.
Episode #9-5: Title Unknown October 23, 2009
UPDATED 7/27/09: Two guests from the DC Universe will appear in this episode.
Episode #9-6: Title Unknown October 30, 2009
UPDATED 7/27/09: DC Comics character "Roulette" appears in this episode, and a dollar says that's also the episode title, but we cannot confirm that last part.

Michelle in San Francisco: Thanks for the Smallville news from Comic-Con! Please explain more about the younger version of Zod. If Krypton has not been destroyed yet, does that mean Clark can change his destiny and save his people?
That's exactly what we asked executive producer Brian Peterson. "We're introducing [Callum Blue] as Major Zod, before he even turns into General Zod, so we get to see his trajectory into becoming the villain he's known as. We've never had a Kryptonian living on Earth with Clark for an entire season, and [to see] how that affects Clark's journey," says Peterson. "We're going to be exploring a lot of that this year, without trying to do too much time jumping and alternate universes. We're going to try to explore the relationship between Zod and Clark, and what if that were different? Zod and Jor-El, and what if that had been different in the past? In the first six episodes, we're going to get to it pretty quickly." (Did we mention Callum told us to "kneel before Zod" at Comic-Con?)
Andy in Long Beach, Calif.: Since Lois was fired by Tess Mercer last season on Smallville, will she find her way back to the Daily Planet in season nine?
"Nobody fires Lois," jokes Erica Durance. Despite getting the boot from the Daily Planet last season, Durance says, "[Lois] for sure finds her way back there, investigating things, getting into trouble and getting rescued. It wouldn't be Lois Lane if she wouldn't."

That is interesting. I love the Justice Society. I bet the story deals in some part to World War 2.

FINALLY!! Some new stuff.
Episode #9-3: "Rabid" October 9, 2009
Directed By: Michael Rohl
Guest Stars: Cameron Bancroft (Dr. Coats)
UPDATED 8/3/09: "Rabid" is about a virus infecting Metropolis that turns people into zombies.
- Both Tess and Lois are infected by the plague.
- Cameron Bancroft, whose previous credits include 24 and the original Beverly Hills 90210, plays Dr. Coats, a virologist who is working on the zombie plague.
- Don't get too attached to the current Green Arrow costume - Oliver burns it in this episode.
Episode #9-5: Title Unknown October 23, 2009
UPDATED 8/3/09: A possible hint on the guest characters in this episode: It's very likely they may have the ability to turn into a bird and a bucket of water, respectively. Purple monkey optional. We'll see if that pans out. (Keep in mind this entry is just speculation and nothing is confirmed)

Episode #9-5: "Idol" October 23, 2009
UPDATED 8/4/09: Smallville is now casting the roles of "Twyla," a "Pixie-punk teen," and her brother "Tanner," a "hot skater dude." *Cough*Zan and Jayna*cough cough*
- These two spray paint an "S" on the roof of a bad guy's limo, to catch the attention of their "idol," the Blur.
- Later, the duo visit Watchtower and see all of the high-tech gear that Chloe has within. Jayna "Twyla" asks Chloe if she's actually met the Blur, and if she is the Blur's sidekick. Chloe tells them that Watchtower provides support to all of the heroes of Metropolis. "Twyla" wants to tweet her "group" about what she has seen, and Chloe warns that if she says one word to anyone about it, any trace of her virtual existence will be evaporated.
- A sign of the current state of the Chloe-Clark interaction: Chloe tells them that "if you get good enough at it, one day you might find yourself saving your best friend, from an enemy, or even from himself."

^ LOL, I thought the "wonder twins" made an appearance back in the fifth season episode, "Mortal".
Anyhow, sounds like I'll be letting y'all keep me updated on what's going on. Don't believe I'll be tuning in this season either. Still, it was a good run for an idea while it lasted, and those are being kept alive via fan fiction stories. It's all good. __________________The Bible is so powerful. In case you can't read the article on Smallville, it says:
Smallville lightens up
Smallville producers are backing down from earlier claims that the coming season would be one of the show's darkest yet. "We might've misled people a little bit with that," confesses co-showrunner Brian Peterson. "Clark starts the season in a very gloomy place, but the season itself won't be dark." Case in point: In episode 3, Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling) are "in the trenches fighting zombies," says Peterson. "And when they catch their breath from fighting, [romantic] sparks will fly."

Dh you really ought to watch this season. I think it's going to be a lot of fun besides what else you going to watch on Friday night. Of course if you have a dvr or something you can watch it anytime, but still there's not but a hand full of prime time shows that are really good to watch and Smallville is one of them. __________________

Tim, I may check out the episode Allison directs, . Other than that it sounds like they're just going to rehash the "Lois & Clark" series from the 90s. Besides, I cut my cable service months ago and only keep up with a very few shows anymore on-line.
BTW, swag is available at http://www.cafepress.ca/aliceandhuck for the short film project directed by Kaleena Kiff, written by Robert W. Gray, produced by Allison Mack and Galen Fletcher, and starring Allison Mack and Matt MacCaull. You can also learn more about Alice & Huck at Allison's blog.
As I was fortunate enough to be one of the 10 folks able to contribute its production, I have been able to see it. The DVD for Alice & Huck is scheduled to be released in November, after it concludes its tour around a myriad of film festivals. It's certainly not in the realm of "comic book storytelling" but it is an entertaining story that harkens back to the "which-way" books I used to read as a kid. __________________The Bible is so powerful. Unfortunatley, no, I have not had the privaledge of working with Allison. To clarify, I was one of the folks to help sponsor the production of the short film written by Robert Gray.
BTW, Allison is also part of the cast in the new Superman/Batman: Public Enemies DVD (based on the comic by Jeph Loeb), available for pre-order at amazon.com. __________________The Bible is so powerful. More episode titles (the real deal).
Episode #9-6: "Roulette" October 30, 2009
Episode #9-7: "Crossfire" November 6, 2009
Episode #9-8: "Kandor" November 13, 2009
UPDATED 8/13/09: With a title like that, could Kara be returning? Or might it be a Zod flashback episode? (We can only pray.)

Episode #9-5: "Idol" October 23, 2009
Director: Glen Winter
Guest Stars: David Gallagher (Zan), Allison Scagliotti (Jayna)
UPDATED 8/17/09: Lois meets her psychatrist, "Dr. Evans," and tells her there are things she wants to talk about off the record.
- Dr. Evans asks Lois to describe these dreams, and Lois tells her that they start off with "serious NC-17 violence" and then there's a recurring event - involving clothes coming off. "Lots of... naked... skin. Skin on skin."
- Dr. Evans asks if these dreams are about Clark and Lois gets defensive and says that yes, she's doing the "virtual kama sutra" with Clark Kent, and refers to her desk as "soft-core central."
- Dr. Evans suggests that Lois's dream may have something to do with wanting to uncover something that's hidden within Clark. Lois admits she does feel like he is hiding something, and that the closer she gets to him, the more she feels like Clark is going to disappear.
- "The Red-Blue Blur" calls while Lois is talking with Dr. Evans. The ring tone is "Holding Out For A Hero" (though of course this could change). Lois sends him to voice mail. Apparently the last time Lois opened up to the RBB, he vanished into thin air. The doctor suggests she still has feelings for this "mysterious caller," but Lois insists that he's history like "eight-track tapes" and "rotary phones."
- Chloe by this point knows that Clark has been calling Lois as "The Blur." She is there with him on the other side of the line. There is a reference made to "what happened with Corbin" from "Metallo."
- Chloe tells Clark he's going to need a better disguise.
- Something happens at one point that makes Lois think Clark is the Blur. The Blur does eventually reach her by the phone, however.
- Also in this episode it is Clark, not the Blur, who saves Lois from danger out on a ledge. There's a scene (possibly around the same moment?) where Lois wants to confess her feelings for him, and Clark looks deeply into her eyes, though it's unknown if they actually say anything.
- Dr. Evans tells Lois that there will be a time when she will have to choose between the Blur and Clark.
- Zan and Jayna may be transforming themselves into a black panther... and a sheet of ice.
- The Metropolis D.A., Ray Sacks, holds a televised press conference urging the Blur to "step out of the shadows." He invites Clark to show himself and take responsibility for his actions" at a public press conference and derides his work as "vigilante behavior."
- Later at the press conference, the Blur doesn't show... but Lois does... announcing that she knows the Blur. She then has a monologue about how and why the Blur can't come out and make his presence known, and that he needs to be what we all need - a symbol to believe in, and a light in the darkness.
- This episode will have a very "V For Vendetta" moment within.

Episode #9-6: "Roulette" October 30, 2009
Director: Kevin Fair
UPDATED 8/17/09: Oliver starts the episode's teaser at a speakeasy where he has maxed out his credit line and is generally down on life. He asks for a blowfish knowing that it could be delay. Roulette enters using the name of "Victoria Sinclair," wearing a red dress with high slits that reveal an elaborate dragon tattoo. She makes a reference to Oliver looking like "a guy down on his luck;" when he sees her, he says he thinks his luck "just turned around." Oliver admits to her that he's lost a certain lust for life, and she invites him to play a game with her. She then convinces Oliver to take a pill which makes his eyesight blur and he falls for the floor
- Later Oliver and "Victoria" are running, and he asks her what her "game' is. She tells him if he hadn't taken the pill, the people she works for would have killed her.
- "Victoria" is shot and her blood splatters all over Oliver's white business suit. Then Oliver is tasered by a cop who believes him to be a killer, and he is arrested and taken in to be questioned. He is released by an FBI agent who knows about the "game."
- Clark and Chloe share a scene where Clark is presented with an image of Alia (a Kryptonian character from earlier in the season).
- Chloe sees a symbol which disturbs her and refers to a "woman from the future" when talking to Clark - possibly talking about Alia there too.
