Take a look at this.
James in Pocatello, Idaho: Smallville spoilers, please.
Doesn't it feel like yesterday Smallville premiered for the first time? Here we are eight years later, with the season nine premiere on Sept. 25. How time flies. But we've digressed. We watched the season premiere and must say a couple things: First of all, Team Smallville isn't messing around with the special effects. It looks like they pulled out all the stops (and the budget) on this sweet, first episode. Also, all of you Lois lovers will be happy to know Erica Durance (Lois Lane) is interwoven throughout many storylines and is front and center during most of the show. Set three weeks after the events of the finale, Clark (Tom Welling) is training to be Superman and is struggling with leaving his humanity behind. He's frustrated with his inability to fly, but is told by trainer Jor-El it's because, "You still see yourself as a human." Meanwhile Clark's relationship with Chloe (Allison Mack) is downright rocky, while he remains obsessed with Lois. Lois doesn't have a clue where she was for the last three weeks, but when she returns it's in the company of a freaky Kryptonic-ninja lady from the future who's out to get Clark. And watch out for Lois' scary dream sequence at the end of the episode: there's sex, sweat, blood and death.

Hmmm...interesting, this is.
What can we expect more of this season on Smallville: Chlark or Clois? — Mark
ADAM: In his quest to become the Man of Steel, Clark shuns pretty much everyone. He is particularly icy to Chloe, for whom he refuses to go back in time to save Jimmy. But The Blur does come to Lois in her time of need. Oh, and she's got sex on the brain... at least while she's sleeping.

Question: Can you get us some amazing new Smallville scoop? —Tyson
Ausiello: In the Nov. 20 episode, “Pandora,” we’ll see exactly what happened when Lois disappeared for three weeks — and it’ll look remarkably similar to this.

Clark and Chloe deserve to be friends at least. The season premiere tore their friendship apart and I don't want to watch Smallville anymore. — Josh
ADAM: Wrongs can always be undone, Josh. Sure, Chloe and Clark have a long way to go in repairing their friendship, but by the end of the next episode, I think you will be hopeful about them patching things up. The bad news for Chlark fans is this: Chloe's friendly gesture pushes Clark closer to Lois.

Hey Matt! I worship you and any ‘Smallville’-related tweet coming from you. Hope you can dig up some juicy stuff! – melissaclse
If you follow me on Twitter, you know I had a theory about the satellite pic Tess was presented with at the end of ‘Metallo’ - that the figure lying by the scorched-earth “S” was no less than Kal-El. When I ran my idea by Cassidy Freeman, she said, “It’s supposed to look exactly like Clark, which supports Tess’ theory that he is special and connected to these [Kandorians].” But is the mystery man indeed Krypton’s favorite son? In a word, no.

Trouble for Ollie, there is.
Episode #9-10: "Disciple" Air Date Unknown
UPDATED 10/7/09: New spoiler from Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello: "Oliver will meet the bad guy version of the Green Arrow (a.k.a. the Dark Archer) in episode 10." Dark Archer? "jason1040" over on Twitter says it's likely Merlyn, a black clad archer who often causes trouble for Oliver Queen.

News on 'Society'.
"Society" News From Geoff Johns!
Today on Twitter, writer Geoff Johns revealed one of the guest characters and an air date for his upcoming "Society" episode of Smallville.
"I can't divulge the three members in the episode yet, but one of them is someone that should be obvious. A girl. Who likes stars," he Tweeted, also revealing the episode will air on January 29. The episode is scheduled to shoot in two weeks. From that it's safe to assume that one of the guest characters is Stargirl, a character created by Johns for the Stars and STRIPE comic book series a few years ago.
Johns also revealed that he went over costume designs, which "kicked a**" - "Sticking to the source is always the way to go," he says.

I had just finished that episode yesterday and was wondering that myself about who was lying in the house of El symbol, and I vaguely remembered that Jor-El was rumored to be showing up this season. Kinda makes sense since we have a 'younger' Zod running around at the moment with the other Kryptonians. I also am wondering why they don't have their powers- this should have been automatic. __________________Beneath this mask is more than flesh. Well Aero, you know my vote's already leaning toward Jor-El, but now that you bring up Conner, that could certainly be a possibility and might be connected with Lois' time trip vacation. __________________Beneath this mask is more than flesh. I am pleading with you to please give us some exciting scoop on ‘Smallville’! – Tyson
If you like the recent hints at a darker Oliver, you’re gonna love the episode titled and featuring “Roulette,” airing October 23. “It’s a great episode for Justin [Hartley],” Cassidy Freeman told me. “Oliver has been on this downward spiral, embracing the darker side of ‘Smallville.’” That emo shift stems from the fact that in the crime-fighting scheme of things, Green Arrow is just a regular guy. “Sometimes it’s hard for fans to think about what Clark is going through, because they don’t have superpowers,” notes Freeman. “But Oliver is just human, and he can speak to them that way.”

Question: I was wondering what you thought of the CW's decision to move Smallville to Friday nights and what that might mean for the show. Smallville has always been one of the network's top performers, and though it is in its ninth season, I can't believe the CW thought it would be a good idea to move it to the Friday night death slot and pair it with reruns of Top Model, no less. I thought Smallville and Supernatural made a terrific (and successful) pair on Thursday nights, and ever since the move, both shows have lost a big chunk of their viewers. I very much enjoyed the eighth season of Smallville and the ninth season has impressed me thus far. I was really hoping for a 10th. What do you think the chances of that are at this point?—Carrie
Matt Roush: According to my in-house expert who knows this show much better than I do, you shouldn’t count out a 10th season, regardless of the Friday numbers. The CW doesn’t expect much from any show airing on that night, and moving Smallville (which is still a valuable property in international sales and DVDs, etc.) was more about the network looking to its own future. The goal was not to punish Smallville, which holds its own wherever it airs, but to launch a new genre franchise in The Vampire Diaries, which has been (by CW standards) a major success story on Thursdays. There’s no question Smallville is closer to the end of its run than the beginning, but by all accounts, no one’s projecting an end date yet this season.

PRAISE THE LORD, CLOIS FANS!!
UPDATED 10/13/09: More Clois spoilers from "PattyLaurie": "Lois/Clark do agree to become a couple in Pandora, after Lois first clarifies her terms, and more importantly, after Clark discovers the forboding malevolent truth about her dream sequence. Their coupledom is continued into Disciple, an episode about the Dark Arrow, adding another Oli into the mix."

Something on 'Roulette'.
Question: Will we see a storyline involving Chloe and Oliver on Smallville anytime soon? —Marie
Ausiello: Yes, very soon. Next Friday’s episode, “Roulette,” is all about Oliver, with a little Chloe twist thrown in.

Here's an interview with Cassidy Freeman.
As if Smallville's Clark (Tom Welling) didn't have enough on his plate with robotic men with kryptonite hearts trying to kill him and zombies taking over Metropolis, but now his greatest foe, Zod (Callum Blue) is teaming up with Lex Luthor's protégé, Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman).
What happens when two evil characters join forces? Nothing good, Freeman tells TVGuide.com. Just think of all the people Tess can destroy once she's got a Kandorian on her side. But is she really after the destruction of Earth, or is she trying to protect it? See what Freeman has to say — and more.
TVGuide.com: Originally Tess released Zod to make Clark become the hero he's meant to be, but it's backfired with all the trouble the Kandorians have been causing.
Cassidy Freeman: She didn't know what was going to happen when she released the orb. All she knew was that she was listening to it and doing what it told her to do. I didn't really expect what has happened, but I will continue to try and make it right and make sure that my initial thought of "I can save the Earth. How I can save mankind?" — I want that to happen. I want Clark to be part of it. I want him to stand up and be that person that we all look to, but I'm willing to do anything it takes.
TVGuide.com: How does the Tess and Zod relationship develop?
Freeman: The stakes just keep getting higher. We keep power-playing each other and we keep trying to win, and the other keeps winning each hand, but no one is really winning the whole game. He surprises me at an event, I can tell you that. He just shows up every time and catches me off guard.
TVGuide.com: Is there every a possibility for a romance between them?
Freeman: I don't know. I think that possibility is true for everyone. It's not in the cards as of yet, but you never know.
TVGuide.com: In Lois' flashes of the future, Tess is seemingly kneeling before Zod. Why is she turning evil?
Freeman: You're going to figure that out come midseason. It's all explained very obviously.
TVGuide.com: How evil will Tess get this season?
Freeman: She gets pretty evil. It's really like no holds barred. I'm willing to pretty much do anything to get what I want, which is a cure for the Earth, which is like a saving of Earth. Whatever I think that takes, I will do, but I do some pretty awful stuff.
TVGuide.com: How much interaction will Tess have with Jor-El (Julian Sands) this season and how?
Freeman: I do get to interact with him. How do I interact with everyone? I just want to steal their information and their power. I want to manipulate them. I'm a power-hound.
TVGuide.com: There have been some throwdowns between Tess and Lois. What's coming up for the two of them?
Freeman: Lois always interests me. I don't think that Tess really respects her too much. I think Tess thinks she's just a pawn that she needs to use. I know she's very connected to Clark, so that's why she's kept around. I know she might be foolish enough to let things out, or I think she'll be foolish enough to tell me secrets and tell me what she knows, but she never does. She's this funny, quirky girl that's such a hard-ass with Tess and frustrates the hell out of her.
TVGuide.com: What will Tess think once Lois and Clark are finally in a relationship?
Freeman: Who says they're going to be in a relationship? [Laughs] I'm just kidding. I don't think Tess is really into Clark romantically. I think she might see a relationship between Lois and Clark as kind of frivolous and surface and not really to the point. She doesn't care.
TVGuide.com: I hear Tess and Oliver (Justin Hartley) are coming together more this season. How does that play out?
Freeman: Tess and Oliver have a very interesting relationship in that they knew each other before all this started. They knew each other before he became Green Arrow, they knew each other before she became involved in Luthor Corp., so they have a history that's different than the other characters. Although things didn't end very amicably between them, they still know who each other are. Ollie is not in a great place and they still run the company together. Tess really needs him to stand up. Clark and Chloe [Allison Mack] want him to stand up as the Green Arrow. Tess wants him to stand up as the billionaire, Oliver Queen. We're all just asking him to get over himself.
TVGuide.com: You've had a lot of scenes with Lois, but not as many with Chloe. Are they going to be crossing paths this year?
Freeman: I think so. I've heard murmurs. We're on episode nine right now and we haven't worked together yet. I have a feeling that comes in the early teens. I think we will.
TVGuide.com: When Smallville is picked up for Season 10, will you be back?
Freeman: They have me if they want me. They contracted me for three years when I signed on in Season 8, so if they want me, they've got me.
TVGuide.com: What's your one big tease for Smallville?
Freeman: I think the tease has already been done. Those flashes that Lois is seeing, I think it's going to be really cool come midseason with all of the time-space continuum that's coming. I think fans will like it.
TVGuide.com: Will jumping around in time change what could have been in the Smallville mythology?
Freeman: Yes, I think so.

Speaking of time travel.

I do love time travel elements in stories. I think the best example recently of time travel done right is the new Star Trek film. It's got me really looking forward to future films in this franchise. Hope Smallville incorporates time travel this season as effectively. __________________
