Conner is a clone created by dna from Lex Luthor and Superman. He recently passed on after bravely fighting the very powerful Superboy Prime who used to be a good guy himself. It all happened in the recent Infinite Crisis #6 where Superman has even fought his good guy counterpart from Earth 2, the older Superman from the World War 2 stories.
