Smallville
By Kellen

PART 1

“I love you Clark, I guess I always have…” Lana’s eyes twinkled in the sun’s final rays of the night. Her lips, just inches from his, begged to be kissed. Clark held her hand and swooped in for the kiss…after a minute or so, he finally pulled away.
“Oh Lana, I’ve loved you since the first day I ever met you,” Clark couldn’t stand that he was about to start another relationship with the one he loved, only he was going to have to lie, all over again, he didn’t know if he could go through with this, but it felt so right! “Lana-” He began.
“Clark, just this time, please lets be honest.” With that she hugged him, and watched the sun sink below the corn-covered hills of the Kent farm.

It was 7:30 when Chloe pulled her truck into the Talon. The sun had just set, and she hope Lois would still be here after dark. She jogged over to the entry and rapped hard at the door. Peering in she saw the lights were off. “Whoa,” she said aloud. “Where’s Lana, shouldn’t she be here?” Chloe began to get worried, but thought nothing of it, she’s probably just at a high school graduation party. I should be at one too, enjoying my last day in Smallville. Chloe was moving to Metropolis the next day, where she had gotten a clerical job at the Daily Planet, the number one newspaper in Metropolis. She checked her watch again, a quarter ‘til 8, better get going.  She made her way back through the empty parking lot. Glancing at the streetlight as if flickered on and off. It seemed chilly, and she pulled her brown jacket up a little. Suddenly behind her she heard a noise – like someone crunching a leave – her pace quickened. By the time she reached the car the streetlight was out completely. She was alone in the parking lot, with it almost completely dark. No cars were passing on the road leading into the talon’s parking lot. She inserted the key into the door and twisted right, she heard the locks go up, just as a scream erupted behind her, she turned around and blacked out.

“Lex, be reasonable, what – I mean why – I’m your father for God’s sake!” Lionel quivered, trapped in the corner where he stood. “Put the gun down!”
“Oh, but it was fine when you did it to your own father, mother too!” Lex snarled and continued pointing the gun at his father, 10 feet away.
“Son, I was young, they were in my way—”
“Like YOU’RE in MINE!” Lex nearly screamed.
“NO! Please son, I beg of you,” Lionel dropped to his knee.
“I only EVER wanted one thing from you father,” Lex muttered.
Lionel, clinging to every word Lex Luthor said, he asked, “What son, what is it you wanted?!” He immediately regretted using a forceful voice.
Lex, with tears streaming, told him, “Loved.” He pulled the trigger firing a bullet through Lionel’s stomach.
Lionel looked up, pained, “Son,” he croaked.
“I WANTED TO BE LOVED!” Lex screamed firing two more shots through his head. “I only wanted to be loved…” Lex was now on the floor weeping, he looked at the blood issuing from Lionel’s dead body, he stood up, and wiped the tears away. He walked over to his desk, and hit a intercom button, “There’s a mess that needs to be cleaned up in here…”

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. “Smallville, you in here?! Open up!” Lois Lane kept knocking at the Kent’s farmhouse, the next morning, waiting for an answer. “Clark – I know your in here, don’t make me—”
“Lois, how are you? Come on in, Clark’s upstairs,” The door opened to a petite woman, not old, but still not young. Her reddish orange hair fell down to her shoulders, a mug of coffee in her hand.
“Martha, I’m sorry,” she loved the Kents like they were her own family. She didn’t have much to love at her real home, her dad being in the military, never having time for his two daughters. Lucy, her younger wasn’t exactly what she had in mind of someone to run to in need for sympathy, or just to talk to. Nope, that was the Kents, all right. And even though she’d hate to admit it, Clark wasn’t so bad; she just liked giving him a hard time.
“Here Lois,” Martha had another mug of coffee outstretched for her to take. Lois hadn’t even noticed Mrs. Kent go back into the kitchen.
“Thank you, Mrs. Kent.” Lois sipped at the coffee, still warm.
“CLARK!” Martha hollered up the stairs. “Someone’s here to see you!” She turned to Lois, “It’s still a bit early for him.”
    “It’s 11 o clock.” Lois replied.
“Yes, well,” Martha turned and headed toward the kitchen. Lois followed.
“Anything I can do to help?” Lois said, hoping ‘no’ was the answer.
    “I’m fine for now.”
    “How’s Jonathon?” Lois asked.
“Working in the barn,” Martha looked up from the dishes. “Clark, how nice of you to actually come down.” She beamed and left the two alone.
    “Lois,” Clark smiled at her.
“Smallville, hey listen, I really didn’t come her to see you in your pajamas and drink coffee with your mom.” She said, eyeing his abs, as he was only in pajama bottoms. “Chloe didn’t come home last night. Last I heard she was going to go find Lana, and then when I got home at midnight, she still wasn’t home. I got up this morning to see if maybe she came home during the night, but her bed was still unmade. I’m really starting to get worried.”
“Hold on, I’ll be right back.” Clark ran up the stairs and no less than 5 minutes later he returned dressed and ready to go.
Lois muttered something that sounded like “I really need to take you shopping for new clothes” but just motioned to follow her to the car.
“Lets check the Talon first.” Clark said, fastening his seatbelt.
“That’s where I was driving Smallville.” Clark rolled his eyes at his nickname.

“CHLOE!” Lois screamed as she pulled into the empty Talon parking lot. The Talon was closed for the first day of summer, and a body was lying unconscious on the ground. Tire streaks two feet away. The care pulled to a stop, and Clark and Lois jogged over to Chloe, “CHLOE!” Lois screamed again. Checking her pulse, her eyes started to water, “she’s almost gone!” Lois looked up to Clark frantically, “Come on you super man, you always save the day, do something!” Clark bent over and checked the pulse. It was still there, but faint. He ran to the talon and dialed 9-1-1 while filling up a jug of water.
While Lois was fishing out her first aid kit in the car, to see if anything could be of use, Clark was back to Chloe, quick, as well, a flash. He poured the water over his face, while opening her mouth and giving her some to drink. She coughed and her pulse started beating more frequently. “CLARK! Oh Clark!” Lois ran from the car and hugged Clark, and then quickly pulled away. There was an award silence, broken only by that of the siren from a nearing ambulance. When the ambulance pulled up, Clark helped lift Chloe onto a stretcher, while Lois explained how they found her. Lois got into the ambulance and tossed Clark her keys as they drove away 15 minutes later.
Clark, happy that Chloe had been saved, started looking for clues around the parking lot. Over an hour later, all he had was a cigarette butt, a broken old beer bottle, and a piece of paper with the words ‘tonight, near the Talon’ scribbled on it. Clark was sitting in the front of Lois’s car, about to leave when he heard a honk sound behind him.
“Lois? What are you doing here?” Lana Lang got out of her maroon suburban, and started walking towards the car Clark sat it. She held up her hand to shield the sun from her eyes.
    “Lana?”
“Clark? Where’s Lois? What are you guys doing?” Lana ran up to Clark, as he got out of the car. He bent over and gave her a sweet kiss of greeting. He quickly explained everything, and when he finally finished she was quick to add, “I want to help! I mean, who would do this to Chloe?”
Clark showed her what he had found, and together they headed inside the Talon. Lana began brewing her famous mocha lattés. She handed him one, just as Lois burst through the door.
Lois gave them both a look, before saying, “It’s all right, she’s doing fine! Just she was knocked out, and well, the doctor said, that if we wouldn’t have found her…”
“Well, you did, and that’s what matters Lois.” Lana took her hand in a comforting way. “Mocha?” She asked.
Lois nodded, before returning to her familiar self, “You tell anybody that I got all soppy, well, you just might find your self knocked onto another planet. Thanks,” she added as Lana handed her a drink.

Later that day, the three found themselves all crammed into Chloe’s hospital room. “Thanks guys, really I’m ok. It will take a lot more than a car thief to kill me! I just can’t help but think of my job at the Daily Planet, I mean I start – or was supposed to start – tomorrow! My moving van, and, and –”
“Chloe, you actually think I wouldn’t take care of that for you?” Lois asked, pretending to be hurt.
“Thanks Lois, you’re the best cousin I could ask for.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Lois replied. “It’s what I’m here for…”
“Well Chloe, I’m glad you’re ok, I should get going, I told my mom, I’d actually be home for dinner tonight…” He smiled and bent over to give her a hug.
“I actually should get going too, Chloe, I’m glad you’re ok too.” Lana bent over and hugged Chloe too, then left with Clark…holding hands.
    “What!” Chloe stammered.
“Uhhh, I thought so,” Lois muttered. “Won’t you get over him Chloe?”
Chloe just smiled and didn’t reply. She knew Clark loved Lana, yet something inside of her just wouldn’t let go of him. Not yet anyway.

“Mmmm, dinner smells delicious Mrs. Kent,” Lana and Clark were setting the table for 4. “Thanks for having me for dinner.”
“It’s always a pleasure dear. Could you grab the chicken out of the oven Clark?” She threw the hot pad at him.
“Sure,” he replied grabbing it. Then he realized the hot pad wasn’t on his hand, luckily Lana had been setting silverware on the table, and hadn’t paid attention. Martha looked at him for a second, and then to Lana, she let out a breath of relief. “Jonathon! DINNER!” She hollered out the window.
“Be right there!” Was his reply.
“Thank you Lana,” Martha said, as Lana grabbed the salad, and set it on the table. Clark put the chicken next to it, and poured milk in the glasses. He pulled out a chair, which Lana took. And then he sat down next to her.
“Oh, hi Lana,” Jonathon Kent said as he walked into the kitchen. “How are you doing?”
“Fine, Mr. Kent. How are you?” Lana replied politely. Jonathon always did like Lana, and the Langs. They were good people, and he was happy for Clark to finally have the chance to be with Lana again.
“I’m doing good, my heart isn’t as healthy as it should be, but I’m managing.” He sat down and grabbed for the chicken. It was replaced with a salad, as Martha quickly slid the chicken away.
    “Healthy,” was all Martha said.
“Right.” Jonathon poked at it with his fork. “Thanks.”
“Lex is running for Kansas state Senator, you know.” Martha stated.
“So he can even more power,” Jonathon said.
Lana and Clark exchanged looks. “Well, why don’t you run for senator Mr. Kent?” Lana asked.
He chuckled before simply saying, “no.”
“Well, that’s not a bad idea, Jonathon.” Martha pushed.
    “No.”
    “Dad, it –”
    “No. How’s the chicken Lana?”
“Great, thank you once again Mrs. Kent,” Lana said.
“You’re welcome,” She replied staring at Jonathon.

haha, i know i dont think i quite got all the characters down, it was just like an episode, based on their RELATIONSHIPS at the end of season 4. minus the meteor showers and stuff. But like Chloe still knows his secret, and stuff like that.

Yeah, it is good in many ways.

And thanks for the compliments on my story "A Smallville Without Clark Kent," which is sort of like "It's A Wonderful Life," where Clark sees what Smallville would be like if the meteor shower never happened.

My story can be found at www.geocities.com/barryb14us.
