I cannot believe it, then again I can. Why does this new Superman look like a tennis player?

I took on Superman personally after years of reading the comics and even watching George Reeve. Superman is a being from another world, he is different to normal humanity, he is one big dude. He looks about 6'4", and weights about 280Lb to the normal eye estimation. He looks dominant! This new guy is SKINNY, Jeez, look at the pictures released, he looks like my 17 year old son!

I personally weigh 280Lb at 6'1", hell I Bench Press 500Lb on anyday. Yet, I would expect to bend my knee to Superman if I met him. Look at the comics, he is huge. Is it an evil attempt by the studios to emasculate that which we hold Super in ourselves? I am appalled at this choice. If you stuck a Blond Wig on this guy he would make a believable Superwoman (maybe).
I will be unable to see this movie as I have a large Superman tattoo on my large shoulder and will not give in to this attempt to humanize our alien hero!

I still don't understand why everyone keeps saying that Brandon is too skinny and I still think that he looks bigger than Chris does in STM. Also in an article on the superman homepage he said that he had to drop some bulk to get into the new suit, it reported in his first fitting he said that he ripped and big hole in it when he flexed his arm so they asked him to drop 20lbs so he could fit into the suit without damaging it again. In an earlier interview with one of the producers(I think) on the same site they thought that comment was funny because he weighed in at 250lbs before they got him to cut up and lose 20lbs. These are not my own personal comments I am just telling you I read elsewhere on the net. So these reports might be true but then again they might not but what is the point in lying about this because in this day in age you can be easily found out with people wanting to get some small amount of fame via the internet and nobody has come forward to deny the "too skinny" claim. I think everyone is not taking into consideration the fact that Brandon has a very natural athletic build so when he is big he doesn't look that large. I mean at the time of shooting he weighed about the same as Arnie in Twins but if you put images of them side by side without there shirts on you would never guess that Brandon weighs anything over 200lbs because Arnie has a bulky look about whereas, as I just stated, Brandon has an athletic look about him.

Good points, superjon.
I still think a big factor is the dark color of the suit that makes him look so skinny. The lighter the color the bigger you look.

Wait... this thread was started by Dr. Doom. Shouldn't he be complaining about that puny Reed Richards or something? Or at least how bad he was in the Fantastic Four movie???

If they can find a guy that can bench 600lbs and still act, then I'd say we should should give that guy a chance. But they couldn't find that guy, so lets give Brandon a chance. What do you say? If it's bad, then we all can go back to reading the comic book. Does that work for everyone?

Nice bit of sarcasism rabbitspam. I also think that we covered this topic elsewhere on the board, didn't we people?

Yes, superjon. We have. It seems like over and over again.

I have never heard such a load of moaning minnies as the people on this forum.  The costume sucks, the badge is too shiny, supermans to skinny.  Jesus, whats going on?

Right i'll start by saying I am a huge sman fan, comics from the start etc etc.  However I don't watch smallville as it never happened and is a big pile of madeup rubbish. All I have heard from reading on this forum is negative comments about what is being hailed as not only the best superman film ever made but one of the best films ever made.

I don't understand why you would moan if you were superman fans?  The logo, unlike alot of the more recent stuff to come out and partially unlike the reeve films is an absolute copy of the original artwork.  The S is flat as it was when it was created.  Fair enough, its shiny and 3d but we are in 2006!!  The costume is too dull?? Has anyone read the original comics?  Cos I never saw him running around in bright blue and red.  Reeve opitomised this look but the original comic sketchings were slightly darker (probably due to print) and looked burgundy tinted.  Singer has done a very good job of keeping everything to the comics.  He's even set it in the future so as to not overstep the marks reeve left, unlike its batman counterpart.  All in all, it looks like a good effort that true fans will love.  He's picked an unknown actor, which in my eyes is a superb move, as when they were thinking of Nicholas Cage I winced. He doesn't look skinny but he has that kent look which was given in the comics.  I personally thought reeve looked too wideset but there you go.

We should be getting behind this film.  For me I've been waiting a lifetime for it to be made and when the concept was first announced I was sceptical.  From artwork, reviews, trailers and pictures it looks like we are in for a treat.  Certainly not anything to moan about, not for us true superman lovers anyway.  [smirk]

I'm looking at it from a open mind. I've already made all my complaints several times so I'm now just going to enjoy the moment. Superman is everywhere, and most of his tv shows are on dvd. It's a great time to be a Superman fan.

I've decided to withhold any more judgements until I actually see the movie. I think most of the negative stuff is just plain fear because guys like me have grown up watching Superman, reading comics, etc that if they screwed up this movie it would be like ruining the wonder of the moments when we were kids watching Superman the Movie for the first time. Childhood memories can be a pretty important thing to a grownup. A lot more than you think.

I do think at the very least the movie is going to be good whether or not it can capture the magic of the first movie is up in the air until I see the movie for myself.

kleaky88 that was a nice rant, lol. However you make some valid points but the thing that someone pointed out on another site was that the red was dark because of the way it will appear on digital film. If they went with a brighter red then it would come out almost flourescent. I don't mind the blue because this isn't a remake it is a whole new movie series. If you have a look at the motion shots then the red doesn't look as dark. I never thought that he was too skinny I just thought that the first picture was taken from an angle that made him look not as bulky. Refer elsewhere for my elaborated comments on this subject.

Well VictorVonDoomPhD, have you seen the movie yet and does Brandon still look too skinny?
Posted:  30 Jun 2006 17:44
i don't think he is too skinny. do people still hate on him. he was really good
Posted:  01 Jul 2006 03:29
Yes, I gritted my teeth and wanted to enjoy it. Failure. He looked physically like my 17 year old son who gets his ass kicked by the security at the mall when he steps out of line. Look at the obvious. It has been stated repeatedly that the chest plate had to be small 'cause if it was larger then Brandon's chest would look SMALL! Thats the problem, they were trying to optically assit him to look bigger and he was still skinny. Acting was wooden, jesus, they didn't get him for his acting ability. Overall such a letdown from a story of the greatest of superheroes. I know girls who are bigger. Look up christine envall www.cenvall.com a friend of mine. see what i mean. go to flexonline.com see real supermen!

Pardon my language everyone and Tim, but who the hell cares if he's too skinny or the colors don't look right?

It's the ideal and the plot that make Superman, Superman. not the costume, not the actor, not his dog, but the basis, and our honor for him and for what his symbol represents.

Aero, my dear I care! I care a lot. Dammit I care too much, thats why I have a superman symbol tattooed on my shoulder. Its big, so am I. C'mon its more than about an ideal, what if peewee herman had done the movie (about brandons size i believe, kidding OK). You need supermen to play superman or don't bother. I would rather have Michael Clarke Duncan as superman, he at least is super and can act. Hell so he ain't skinny, and  he can act! MIckey Rourke would do a better job too, get make up workin over time though. So i think Brandon got the part for his pretty face. Way to kill the franchaise.

#1, don't call me dear, another thing on my list of annoyences

#2 I wouldn't care if a skinny midget played Superman, i'd still like it. Thats how much of a fan I am.

Wouldn't it be easier for Superman to blend in if he did look like the rest of us? It works in the comic books because everyone is ripped. Besides, there is more to strength than muscle mass.
Posted:  01 Jul 2006 16:08
How much steroid does she have in her VictorVonDoomPhD? You said that your are 6'1" and 280 lbs right? Are you bulk or ripped to the bone and able to run 10 km in 45-50 minutes? It sounds like you are into American football which requires strength and power but no aerobic abilty. Try taking a look at some footballers from my part of the world, Australia(www.nrl.com.au or www.aru.com.au), because there plenty of them 6'2" to 6'5" and about 220 lbs who are ripped better then a pro bodybuilder(minus the 'riods) about to step onto the Mr Olympia stage. As far as I am concerned a tall athlete who is strong and can perform quite easily at a good aerobic level looks better than some moronic 'roid freak who doesn't do any aerobic activity because it will give him a heart attack. If that offended you sorry but by the sounds of you dimensions you need to lose some bulk because the ACSM guidelines for height/weight ideal levels would agree with me even taking into considerations your, possible, body type. Sorry Tim if that was out of line or not to the correct standards of the board.

It's probably best not to make any personal attacks. It takes a lot of work to get that big. I work out all the time myself and I figure the perfect Superman physically does have a lot of muscles. The trick however is that Superman cannot have any fat in his body at all. If you have the slightest belly at all you are going to look dumb wearing a skin tight suit. The biggest issue with getting large muscles is it usually takes a lot of food which ends up creating a big belly. Usually it takes a professional body builder to have both huge muscles and a completely flat stomach. You have to train just right, eat just right, the whole nine yards and it's darn near impossible. With all the working out I do I can't lose that last bit of fat on my stomach. My goal is to have a body like Stallone in the Rocky 3 or 4 or maybe Van Damme. It ain't easy especially when you work on a computer all day.

From the stats it would appear that Brandon isn't exactly a wimp. He's so tall that it makes him look skinny, and that dark suit. I think old Abraham Lincoln was known for his strength and he was skinny as a rail. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. For the record I do think that Superman should always look muscled up though.

Well Dean Cain was/is a little on the short side for Superman, BUT he had a good shape unlike Keaton as Batman to this day I'll never under that casting or for that matter. The casting of this new guy with Michael Crane and Morgan Freeman taller than him.
Posted:  02 Jul 2006 21:30
I must add something more here, some of the posters here talk how characters like Super and Bats should be like GODS and yet many of the fans made the Keaton Batman films big hits as well as Batman Begins which IMO this Bale looks like a kid playing the role.

i think brandon looks hot, but i guess i can see why some thinks he's to skinny, the character i was REALLY disapointed in was LOIS LANE! i mean KATE BOSWORTH???? of all people i was not happy they picked her, she was good but i dont know she doesnt really look like lois lane i was just really ticked off.

Posted:  03 Jul 2006 22:25

Would you rather they casted another plain jane like Kidder?

I saw Kate on Leno last week she IS HOT! BUT of course I'll have to see SR before I can judge her Lois
