A recent article has said there is a 75 percent chance that Dean Cain will be on Smallville. I hope so! What do you all think about a Dean Cain guest appearance? __________________

I think writers and producers will find a way to put Dean Cain in the show because he is now one of only three actors to have played Superman and definetly the most notable and iconic now that Chris has died. I think they should put him in a wheelchair and grey up his hair a bit so he can play Dr. Virgil Swann because no one else would do the part justice. I mean John Haymes-Newton and Gerard Christopher look the part as well but in the eyes of the world neither of them are as notable as Dean is as Superman.

They can't do that with Dean Cain, making him Virgil Swann because they made in a episode where they said that he was dead, just like Chris. He could say that he was Virgil's son or something like that, if your going with that Idea. I honestly think that Dean should be someone who Clark can be around like a college teacher or something like that

Smallvillefan I agree with you making Dean Cain some one that Clark can be around would be a great I dea. I think it would also be nice if they did some thing like this. Have him come in to the Serise as if he was Virgil Swann's (Chris Reeve) Assistant. I think that would be a great idea on a way to set him off as a staring character becasue if he was Virgil's assistant then he would allready have insight on Clarks history and stuff like that and I think it would be great because then Clark can talk to him and confinde in him with personal matreial he would not feel comfortable telling Chloe.

I agree that might work having Dean Cain as being working for or related to Virgil Swann. It might make for some cool scenes to have Dean and Welling discussing Kryptonian matters. __________________

ok people so here's the deal, metropolis illinois In 1972, the town had plans to build a thousand-acre, $50 million "Amazing World of Superman" theme park, with a 200-foot-tall statue. Cars would drive between Superman's legs to enter the park. Then the Arabs shut off the oil and the bankers shut down Metropolis's dream.
i think if we could like get the money together, and send it to their city hall, we could actuall have it built, i mean look they had the plans laid out and everything check it out http://superman.ws/fos/superworld/ i mean its an idea, and i don't know how many of you are gunna actually want this thing built but wouldn't it be awesome to have a place to go like that? a refuge for superman fans and smallville fans and so on and so forth?

I like the way you distiguish between superman fans and Smallville fans, twisted_mister. I think that you will find that the Smallville fans who are young and female are mostly Tom welling fans not so much superman fans whereas a superman fan won't discriminate so much and will watch, pretty much, anything to do with superman. Maybe you could suggest your idea to the right people at Warner Bros. because they would be the ones with the money and power to make it happen but in the mean time check out the newest attraction in the world with regards to superman at www.supermanescape.com.au(0-100km/hr in 2 seconds), it is a rollercaoster at WB movieworld on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Did you guys ever consider an alternate dimension Superboy?
How about 2 "superboy's" meeting during a dimensional warp (Our Smallville Clark as one of them)and some special star as the other.
and NOTHING says they have to be the same age...just a little food for thought [smirk]

Dean plays a character called Casey Manning in the series Las Vegas. His character is supposed to be billionaire tycoon so maybe if they don't want to have him playing a role that relates him to Chris' character then they should try something like a billionaire businessman going up against Lionel and Lex. At some stage in the episode he could be saved by Clark and he sees him using his powers and tells him that if he ever needs help keeping his powers a secret then call him and he'll be happy to help. If they did it that way then he could have a recurring role as a billionaire blocker for whenever Lionel and Lex get too close to the truth about Clark.

That sounds like a cool idea.
I don't know if we said this or not seems familiar, but I like the idea of Dean playing related to the character Reeve played. Maybe his billionaire brother who is investigating what Reeve's character knew about Clark and Krypton. __________________

Good idea superjon but Lionel already knows Clark’s secret and eventually Lex is gona find out too... I would really like dean playing the role that Reeve played. Maybe dean could help Clark learn more about where he came from. __________________"Happiness is such an elusive creature, isn’t it? We all wish for it but very few ever really find it."

Have they actually had Lionel say that he knows everything about Clark's secret or are they just giving the viewers the impression that he has a very good summation of an idea without any actually knowing the whole truth? I realise that the US is a long way ahead of us here in Australia and that Jonathan, in spirit form, has told Clark that Lionel knows his secret but think about if he did then why hasn't he exposed him or blackmailed him into doing something illegal, yet? Think about people Lionel is that kind of man and they can never have Lex find out the truth about Clark because it would immediately destroy the whole superman mythology. I like your idea Tim of having him as a brother or maybe a cousin of Chris' character because then Dean's character could have inherited Dr Swann's billions and help protect and guide Clark to his ultimate destiny. To Krypton, Who is Mon-el? because I know my superman characters pretty well and have never heard of that one.

OK, Krypton a glum face with three question marks over it doesn't actually answer the question. Tim, obviously there is something wrong with the boy so would you be so kind as to answer my question, please?

He was introduced as Superboy's brother in the Legion of Superheroes comic books
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mon-El
There were many explanatiuons over the years...but the original intent was an older brother __________________"What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not Fail?"

Thank you Krypton, now why didn't you just put that down in the first place? I used to read the superman comics not the superboy ones so I didn't have a clue who you were talking about. If they did try to introduce an older brother for Kal-El then that would have made for a big mess when it comes to the storyline because it would leave people asking, why save one son and not the other or which son takes preference?

I've read comics all my life since I was 5 or 6 years old and I can't keep up with everything, superjon. Dogone it by the time you get one character's origins straightened out in your mind they change it again. I do good to keep up with supes origin, but I plan on being fully armed this year just for this site and my other super hero sites. I've got a subscription to lots of comic titles and wizard magazine just so I don't miss anything new this year. __________________

No worries Krypton. Tim, the thing is I, personally, don't mind if storytellers elaborate on an existing storyline but I don't like when they go off in a very strange tangent and try to rewrite the whole story in their own vision. The good and bad thing about Smallvile is that they have done both but haven't really hurt the whole superman mythology. I mean Lex and Lois shouldn't be apart of his life for years to come and the idea of Clark and Lex as friends at all let alone best friends is truly very odd. Especially when you think about their interaction in the movies, comics, cartoons and Lois and Clark because in that, Clark didn't like or trust Lex from their very first meeting.

The friendship between Lex and Clark isn't completely new to comic books. Before John Byrne took over back in the 80's for the Superman revamp, Lex Luthor had appeared as a citizen of Smallville in the Superboy comics. Lex became Superman's enemy because of a lab mistake that made him bald. After Byrne it didn't appear that Superman even knew of Luthor before he moved to Metropolis. As far as Lois goes I believe she had been in Smallville before and maybe met Clark back in the days before Byrne took over, but I don't think she has ever in any other versions been around Clark that much before he grows up and moves to Metropolis.
I've got a lot of old Superman and a few Superboy comics. Superboy used to be a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I guess I've always liked Superman's adventures in Smallville. It was like Mayberry with a super hero. Of course the TV show Smallville is more like Nightmare on Elm Street sometimes with some of the intensity, murders, etc. __________________

Well if Byrne took over in the 80's then how is that superman 1 has them meeting when superman finally gets to Metropolis. Did they know of something that was going to happen in DC comics long before it came to print. The cover that you have in the last posting, Tim, looks like a scene from the superboy series. Also think about this Tim in the era of comics from which the cover is, Lex is also a brilliant scientist not a billionaire. I like the fact that they changed that about Lex. The one thing that bothered me about the fact that he was a scientific genius was he still managed to get his hands on some pretty large and expensive stuff because as much of genius as he was supposed to be he would have been able to build a lot of it but never have been able to steal such large pieces of equipment without getting caught. At least as a billionaire he can afford to buy such stuff and have others build it for him.

You mean Superman the movie? It's very likely that they were either disreguarding comics or going on what happened in Superman comics even before the Superboy stories in regards to the time Superman meets Lex Luthor. It's probably also likely that John Byrne wanted to route the comics a little more closely to the movie even though some of his stuff was completely original like the Kryptonian designs. It's interesting though in Byrne's version Clark plays football where as of course on the movie Clark can't take a chance of showing off his powers. So Smallville sort of went with Byrne's version on that as Clark did eventually play on the show at least for a while.
The comic is one from my collection I scanned in the cover. Here's a link where someone has scanned in the entire story. http://superman.ws/tales2/luthor/?page=1
I kind of like the billionaire Lex too although I like thinking he's also an evil genius as well. __________________

That's what's great about being a writer. You can take a story that has been around for years (or even decades) and make adjustments here and there to what you would like to see be done.
That's what Al Gough and Miles Miller did with Smallville. BTW, I too look forward to seeing Dean Cain on Smallville. It doesn't look like it will be this season but it is good that Al and Miles are waiting for the right story to bring him on the show instead of having him on the show for the sake of doing so.
Back to my previous point about writers and changing stories. I remember first seeing the pilot of Smallville and thinking, how can you have this story of "Superboy" essentially and not have the costume? Well, over time and seeing the episodes/stories (which have been great!!) I have actually thought the stories better without having the famed red/blue/yellow costume. Also, just because one writer has had characters appear at different points in time with different traits, does not mean that they cannot be changed. There are always possibilites, and being able to change them is what is great about story telling.
Just my 2 cents worth. __________________The Bible is so powerful. It's not to be left on your shelf. It's to outline even the simplest scriptures that can mean so much in building yourself up.
