I am a fan of the original Superboy Pre-Crisis
and was greatly hurt by DC when they erased him
from Superman's past.  As a result I have no heroes
to identify with anymore and I have grown mad at DC.
Which is ironic considering the fact that I was a
Superman fan before I grew to love the Boy of Steel.

I would like to hear from other Superboy fans. It
is Superboy now who is my hero versus his older self.
Younger heroes have always appealed to me because they are more vulnerable and don't have all the answers.  Superman is too much of a God.  You cannot idenify with him.  He does nothing for me.

Personally, I enjoy both Superman and Superboy adventures. It's all good. I've got a lot of the old Superboy comics from the late 1970's and early 1980's and a few of the old 1960's series.

Let's I'll do my best. Back in the 1980's DC comics was cleaning house they just had the Crisis on Infinite Earths story which destroyed all their parallel universes like Earth 2, Earth Prime, etc. They decided to get John Byrne to relaunch Superman. So Byrne started from scratch completely changing the looks of Krypton, keeping Clark's parents alive past his teenage years, having Clark not become a super hero until he grows up ,thus getting rid of Superboy from the DC comics continuity.

The new Superman was probably a lot more closer to the very first stories of Superman. He was even a lot less powerful. Superman up to that point had gotten powerful enough to move planets.

Superman did run into an alternate version of himself as Superboy in the John Byrne days who was much more powerful. He somehow existed due to the Legion of Super Heroes villain the Time Trapper. I think that's his name. I've read and reread the story and it's extremely interesting, but to be honest I'm still not exactly sure how this alternate Superboy came to be.

Hope that helps explain things a little about superboy.

You know part of the fun is the challenge of getting caught up on the whole story and collecting all those issues. It's a never ending battle.

Trust me if there wasn't so things to keep up with the Superman stories. We would all get bored.

I love the Man of Steel. But its true what you say quentincollin. The younger version was more vulnerable. So I liked him more.
